Wokeness acts as a kind of action faking in my view. Its meant to appear revolutionary but it fundamentally offers no real challenge to power. It is diet progressivism incorporated by multinationals and governments to appear like they care when all it is are public relations (propaganda) trying to placate those who would normally criticize these institutions for their exploitation and imperialism. So yes in effect wokeness is now a cover for actual human rights violations and exploitation of slave labour. Nestle has the audacity to come out and say we support Black Lives Matter when their chocolate has literal black child slaves harvesting cacao pods in their supply chain. Next thing you know they’ll be promoting Earth Day when swathes of forest in Borneo are burned for their supply of palm oil. It really makes me cynical and it’s sad that it undermines actual belief in social justice when the causes are being performantly championed by the status quo on social media. Is it better that they are forced to acknowledge these things and say something? Sometimes I’m not so sure power dynamics are different now, a post-modern boss is no longer a boss they are a coordinator or coach and pal around ask you how was your weekend but they really are still the authority although no longer as easily recognized as such. It’s almost better to be able to see things for what they are without the glasses.I'm not sure if Woke world made me MORE racist or is Woke world itself is racist.
Edit: I think too when challenged a powerful entity can say on a surface level well we heard you and we did this and then a protest movements can take that as part of their victory and go home. Anything that gets at the heart of a bigger systemic problem will be obfuscated to a simple matter of carrying out small tweaks around the edges or doing performative wokeness, not sure who is buying it at this point.
