Yeah, I think it's the particular way in which the trooning out has happened. It's very loud, it covers over the original subject, and it frankly seems to an outsider like a coping mechanism that's suddenly metastasized. There's a significant difference in the way Stephanie is handling this versus the PhilosophyTube woman. She just seems to want to get on with her life as a woman whereas Stephanie wants everyone to know about their hormone pills and how great it is to be cool gendertrash, or whatever. It really looks to me like Sterling got so fed up with the way their life was going and with how much personal investment they'd put into an industry they ultimately felt alienated by and resentment towards, that they latched onto this as something to solve their problems and give them the insta-cool social clout that comes with being nonbinary or trans online nowadays.
Stephanie should do whatever is going to make them happy, but I'm pretty sure their viewership wouldn't be suffering quite so much if they'd treat their transition as a personal issue that's happening in the background as opposed to the garish focus. Garishness has always been Sterling's style, though.
