GamerGate was a series of clusterfucks that all happened vaguely at the same time. Ultimately, it was 3 kinda related scandals, and the people involved (GamerGaters) are a bunch of "politicized gamers who want to keep politics out of gaming." Which, since leftyfags can't stand not shoving their politics into everything,
royally pisses them off.
Scandal one -- The Zoe Post -- is what

Basically, this programmer Eron Gjoni, a male feminist, writes a blog post warning people of Zoe Quinn, an incredibly vapid whore from SomethingAwful who gets a LOT of attention despite being a complete vapid whore. For example, she's done nothing with her life but has been
invited to speak before the UN, has been given jobs at Marvel and DC, has been allowed on steam despite not actually making a game, been allowed to write D&D stuff for WOTC, despite having
no relevant experience in any of this shit.
(As an aside, Zoe is from a STUPID FUCKING RICH family with deep, deep connections to New York State Politicians. "You can trace her noble lineage back to 100 years before the Mayflower" rich.)
Part of his post was revealing that she fucked people for all this success, including a soycuck at Kotaku, Nathan Greyson, and a manager at some game award company.
The day after he posted this, an absolute shitload of industry people started simping for Zoe. A fuckton. Mundanematt is DMCA'd offline for covering it. At the same time, female game development team The Fine Young Capitalists reveal that Zoe Quinn doxxed them, harassed them, and hacked their croundfunder, while Wolf Wozniak reveals Zoe Quinn sexually harasssed him at an indy party and is promptly harassed offline, because victims only count if they're the right gender, incel!
Jim gets involved around this time. TotalBiscuit comes out and says how much bullshit it was to censor MundaneMatt via false DMCA. His post on reddit has over 25,000 comments, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM are deleted by the reddit powermods. Said powermod is revealed to be one of Zoe Quinn's close personal friends; no word on if she sucked his dick.
Moot bans all discussion of it eventually, leading to everyone fleeing to 8ch. It should be noted that Moot's girlfriend is a massive SJW and has him by the dick at this point. Every major website other than The Escapist bans all discussion of it. You are NOT allowed to criticize Zoe "5 guys" Quinn.
That's scandal one. Zoe Quinn was fucking people for quid pro quo in the games industry and is an emotionally abusive and manipulative monster, and there was heavily censorship to prevent anyone from speaking about it.
(BTW, she would later drive Alec Holoka to suicide via a false MeToo claim she put out just because she hadn't gotten any attention recently. Same kind of thing she pulled with Gjoni, and something she bragged about doing before as a member of SA's Helldump.)
Scandal two is "Gamers are Dead," about 2 weeks later. At the same time, across 20-30 different competing websites, articles are released around the same 24 hour period that point out that "Gamers don't have to be your audience anymore. Gamers are dead," all citing the same discredited Cultural Marxist / Critical Race Theory research.
The articles involve obvious collusion and all have the same central conceit -- Gamers, as a customer base, are horrific disgusting straight white men, and no one should EVER pay attention to straight white men, becuase women play candy crush and thus are REAL GAMERZ (tm). The research by Adrienne Shaw, who looks exactly as you would think she does, basically states "Since Gamers do not buy into Marxist bullshit like forced representation and race quotas, the Gamer identity has to be destroyed by any means necessary and replaced with a new artificial identity that will bring game players in line with Cultural Marxist indoctrination."

Basically, this was them trying to slide Critical Race Theory bullshit into vidya, caught 6 years before it became standard operating procedure in corporate America. And gamers found out and fucked the entire thing up.
But why would all these sites seemingly release such pants on head stupid articles that effectively state "our readers and customers fucking suck, ignore them" -- and all at the same time?
Scandal three is GameJournoPros. About 2 weeks later, Milo Yiannopoulos reveals that ALL of the game sites, ALL OF THEM, are on a secret mailing list called GameJournoPros.
This mailing list was the reason everyone banned discussion of Zoe Quinn at the same time. Why everyone posted a shitty version of Shaw's discredited research. In fact, they had been using that list to blacklist writers who went against the leftist line, fix review scores, break NDAs, et cetera. Discussion of sleeping with literal whores hired by PR departments for good reviews, dating publisher and developer employees without telling anyone, et cetera. They were literally colluding to protect Zoe Quinn (even trying to think of a nice gift to buy her), blacklisting journalists they discovered were conservative, ruin the review scores of games that didn't suck enough communist cock, et cetera.
All this shit happened between August 16th and September 17th. A single month, and basically every game developer, publisher, and journalist was outed as being in one giant orgy of nepotism and corruption and bullshit, all pushing far lefty politics because they were literally getting their dick sucked by communist whores.
Now remember that the far left is losing Hollywood, which is how they currently social engineer us. They need something else, and FAST, or the Zoomers are going to reject them and they're FUCKED. What are kids paying attention to nowadays?

It was discovered that far lefty idiots had managed to infest basically the entirety of vidya and were setting up Critical Race Theory and Critical Gender Theory bullshit everywhere. And the geeks pushed back against them and fucked it up, which they now use as an excuse as to why lefty shit is getting pushback on everywhere else.
