This is 100% it. Russell doesn't even really understand what it means to be "nice." His idea of "nice" is "I buy you things and wear a suit and you give me sex." He doesn't get that kindness requires consistency and not expecting anything in return, kindness for its own sake, not just a few gifts and gestures on occasion. It is honestly rather hilarious that he basically wants a sugar daddy style relationship despite being totally broke.
And you're right, Russell sets off literally every red flag imaginable. We see it in how he reacts to being turned down, a nice person would accept that and not want to retaliate. Now let's see how Russ reacted when Dani (a sex worker) cancelled their booking:

He insults her, makes up lies about her, then brags for several lines about what a great, kind, fit, awesome guy he is. And ends it by further wishing her harm. Why? Because he thinks she deserves it for turning him down.
Russell understands women can say no to him, he just thinks they shouldn't be allowed to. We know he has said many times that it should be a felony to refuse him, and even though he later claimed he doesn't mean it, he waited a year to address it and also said he was "Making a point," so it's pretty clear what he really thinks. Not to mention the whole "she can just close her eyes" thing, which shows you how little he cares about the women he tries to "woo." Keep in mind that his books and lawsuits have all been about him trying to either make it legal for him to own a brothel (where we can only assume he will expect to be able to fuck any woman he wants for free no matter what they say) or about trying to punish a woman for saying no to him/ignoring him altogether (see above.) He thinks women not giving him what he wants is something that should be punished. I shudder to think of what would happen if he were extremely rich, powerful, and charismatic, but I have to imagine it would end with him being strangled in a prison cell.
