Lots of cats arrive at shelters FLV+. Maybe he adopted it from a shelter? That would be nice; they seem harder to adopt out.
Chantal got the cat for Peetz when they were living together the first time. It was a kitten. They are to selfish to do anything as benevolent as adopting an already sick cat.
It is possible Timbit was already infected when Cuntal got her for Peetz, even if she was a kitten when they adopted her. As I mentioned before, kittens can be born with the disease if their mothers had it. The thing is, that's something that should have been caught by the shelter (if that's where they adopted Timbit from). In my personal experience at least, shelters test for FeLV or FIV whenever they receive an animal. Also, shelters don't normally adopt out FeLV or even FIV positive cats--though they can make exceptions if someone specifically requests to be given such a cat in order to make whatever life they have as comfortable as possible. Most people don't want to adopt an already sick cat though, which in the case of FeLV especially can be understandable; people aren't made of money and the vet bills can seriously mount up with FeLV kitties since they're most likely to have a multitude of medical issues before their passing.
If the infection wasn't caught by the shelter (or if Cuntal got the cat from someone giving away or selling cats and not through a shelter), then a vet should have caught it. Again, in my personal experience FeLV and FIV testing is a normal procedure for vets when they first examine a cat, unless they're provided records by the cat owner of previous testing and vaccination (as vaccinations for FIV specifically make the animals test positive, so no point in testing if they've been vaccinated).
If James and Cuntal have known for a while that Timbit is FeLV+, then it's even more irresponsible that they would put those cats in the same living environment without first getting both BBJ and Sam vaccinated. That said, from the comments of those who have watched Cuntal's video where she mentioned it, I got the impression that she was acting like it was a surprise diagnosis. So either 1) Timbit has had the disease all along and was never tested for it before (probably because both James and Cuntal are irresponsible morons who don't get their cats checked up on properly), or 2) Timbit acquired the disease at some point (most likely through encountering an FeLV+ cat), and only now that she's become ill was she finally tested for it.
Either way, having an FeLV+ cat in a living environment with FeLV- kitties and not vaccinating them is absolutely morally reprehensible.
