I've been investigating the save system that Alex received from one of his volunteers; here's what I gathered:

The system is easy to set up - you just need to place a component on an object you want to save, click a few buttons to select what kind of data you want the save system to track and then you're done. Saving is a simple as saying YanSave.SaveData() in the game's code, and loading is done with YanSave.LoadData(). The system was programmed to do all the hard work for you. It will grab all the objects that have the component attached and save their data, then load it back when you ask it to. Alex, for whatever reason, only saves the students (not even the whole student, just the two components that contain their behaviour and position), YandereChan (again, only the components containing her behaviour and position) and all the weapons. He could save the entire scene, but he doesn't.

The disassembled save system code is around 500 lines long, which is not much for being able to perform a snapshot of the entire gamestate and save it in under a single megabyte worth of space, so kudos to the programmer for keeping it simple. It is tightly optimized, shows signs of fool-proofing and I can safely assume that the person who worked on this put a lot of effort into it. A lot of acclaimed developers, even the ones behind the Unity engine itself continuously state that serializing and deserializing an entire scene would be impossible due to the amount of time it would take to do so. Alex's volunteer pet managed to pull it off by making a robust, yet very simple in nature tool that manages all of that automatically.

In the end Alex managed to waste all that effort with his lack of coding knowledge and poor management anyway.

that TRO video felt like he was constantly terrified of stepping too far in either direction. He rode a fence the whole way and as a result Alex got treated far to nicely.
I can understand if he preferred to not get involved in internet drama, but if that preference causes him to talk about the person in an undeserved positive light, it's better he just didn't make the video in the first place.

Also Yandere's voice actress doesn't fit her character so badly. When I hear her voice I can only imagine slightly overweight nerd instead of an edgelord murderer.
I mean that's just voice acting. I saw the voice actor for Barrott in FF7R and that dude looks nothing like he sounds. It's not very often you get people that voice a character and look like they could play them too.

I've learned how she looks like literally today. What I meant earlier is that she sounds like chubby teen (kinda nasal and on the verge of losing breath) instead of murderer and manipulator and her attempts of being scary sound more like tryhard nerd roleplaying some kind of villain.
Im not judging her looks, just acting. And I don't even think that she is the worst, just miscasted imo.

You get what you pay for. Speaking of miscasting, if I'm not mistaken Michaela Laws has some kind of dating sim to her name. This would mean that the lead voice actress of Yandere Simulator is actually a better game developer than the lead game developer. Not that it's a high bar, but it's interesting.

That’s the sort of thing that I want to include in my games; features that make the player say, “Whoa, the developer actually thought of that? Wow! I didn’t think there would actually be an outcome for that decision!” For a long time, I’ve wanted to include something special in Yandere Simulator: an option to rush the story to a conclusion if the player successfully completes a very difficult task at the start of the game. The first time I ever mentioned it was around 5 years ago…and, as of today, it is now possible to trigger an “ending” by accomplishing a very specific goal!

>I want to include features that make the player say "whoa the developer thought of that?"
>The main feature of the game is yet to even be included

Epic gamerdev moment for sure.

Also saving/loading should have been so fucking long ago at this point, it's clear Alex just does all the easy work to feign progress and now he's being forced to actually develop a game he's come to a grinding halt.

Can we just take a minute to adress Alex's biggest hypocricy towards his fans and even the game itself?
Because it seems that even though the kids are probably his main source of money and instant gratification he still sometimes mentions how children and amatures in fandom annoy him and how this games is only meant for adults.
I know that adult ratings don't really mean shit, but Alex still brings it up to make a point that children shouldn't bother him.

Alex explicitly mentioned this in one of his vids, using a "low hanging fruit" analogy. In his own words all the low hanging fruit has already been picked, so he has to reach higher and progress takes longer. That's reasonable, but six years for a fucking save system that may not even work is not.

Although most of his fans are undoubtedly children he likes to think he's making a mature game for adults. Even though kids are probably the only people who want to cling on to his mess of a story. He may also be using it as a defense for angry parents who may discover the game and get mad at their kids giving him money by saying "it's not for them anyway!!!" Could also just be an excuse to ban anyone who asks him questions too, seeing as he has called people who complain about the optimization dumb kids on laptops a few times.

that TRO video felt like he was constantly terrified of stepping too far in either direction. He rode a fence the whole way and as a result Alex got treated far to nicely.

The moment he said that both Alex and that one hater both contacted him and caused the altering of a scenario I new all the opinions in the video will be watered down.
Neutral stance is ok, but hiding info is not neutral at all, it's sucking up to everyone. It would be more neutral, in fact, if he presented all the info as it is and encouraged people to come up with their own conclusions. But as I mentioned, it's second to impossible to empathise with Alex after all he said and done.

EDIT: I only watched TRO a couple of times and he just seems like theese type of people who are dependent on participating in drama, but wanting to come off as clean as posible while sounding like the voice of reason.

You know, if you take all of this into consideration, it looks more like he is trying to look superior, not just cover his ass from the fact, that he pushes his murder simulator to the bunch of underage.

No, that's not reasonable, considering that his top priority was Osana (and still is, lol), who is just one of the rivals, instead of functioning game. Does it matter, if you have her in the game, but can't save and have a bunch of placeholders and "not available yet" instead of game functionality? Also, for some reason he thinks that after he adds that bitch, other rivals will be piece of cake, even though they are supposed to be different characters with different interests and ways of elimination (chosen by Alex, of course, because fuck you, if you think it's a sandbox).

It does make me wonder that yes, obviously Alex is bad at coding and even he admitted he wasn't a very good coder either (apart from doubling down and saying about how "if-else" and "switch case" are different styles whatever shit that is) and this is why he relied on volunteers (as far as I know, he did say that 90% of the stuff wouldn't be in the game if it wasn't for his volunteers), but the question is instead of trying to delay yourself so long just to solve some issues and as well as trying to figure out about more features you would add, why can't he just do the crowdfunding campaign much earlier and hire professional programmers to do the job much faster? When the game was at its peak of popularity that would be a perfect time for you to start a crowdfunding campaign to finish all the rivals instead of spending 6 years adding some shit and wondering how would Osana would be fleshed out. If you want to add these new features you thought of, just add them as DLC or something. If anything, the prototype sandbox build way back then during its height and peak of popularity even without Osana is good enough to make people think the concept and idea was interesting at its time compared with right now after like years late.

Also meh, I can understand how people not liking TRO's video for being too fence-sitting which is understandable, but I still enjoyed it especially for his critiques.

Anyway, new blogpost for new update:

As I expected, disassembling the game's code revealed that all of the bugs listed were on Alex's part, the save system had not changed at all between the two builds (apart from one logical improvement).
Maybe one day he will be able to make proper use of the work that is given to him? Nah, who am I kidding.

if I'm not mistaken Michaela Laws has some kind of dating sim to her name.
The "seduce me" series right? She has at least 5 visual novels on steam. Funnily enough one of them has the bland love male main character's default name as "Alex". Not sure if it was intentional on Michaela's part. She does voice acting and it's not very good. She seems to like to use the bland Ayano voice a lot.

Yep, those are it. I remember a few years back when the anime man, akidearest, and misty chronexia roasted the bad writing while playing them and they could barely hold back tears of laughter at how badly written it was and the so many god damn cliches in them.

Imagine being so insecure you banned someone for making "Are ya coding son?" remark on a completely unrelated subreddit, though the thread itself featured fanart crossposted from the Yandere Simulator subreddit itself:
