I think Phil doesn't give answers because he's afraid of being labeled a nerd. It's the same reason he doesn't want to get invested in video game stories, or appear scared during horror games. Phil has always been out of touch with reality, but even in his pre-hermit days, he was pretty obsessed with being seen as the "cool" guy. But, he bases most of what he knows off of 80's movies/sitcoms. He doesn't realize that stuff which was considered lame/niche/geeky in the past has more or less entered the mainstream.
I think it ties into his whole not romancing someone in a videogame thing. That used to be the punchline to jokes about the loser nerd character back in the day, with them falling in love with a video game character or making a robot girlfriend or whatever. For Phil, it is even worse because he can't really separate himself from the character in a game. He treats every character like it is a self-insert. That's why with the FF7 thing, he was so upset with Cloud crossdressing, because in his mind, he felt like the game was making him as a person crossdress/at least admit to liking it. It bothered him so much that it was clearly weighing on his mind because he was making warning tweets about it several days before it even happened.
I'd wager it's why he doesn't talk about wrestling, since that was/arguably still is something you're looked down on for enjoying. In Phil's very limited world view, he'd probably associate it with movie/sitcom characters who believe it is actually real. Since those characters are normally called losers, Phil avoids talking about it. Even when he does, he tries to play it off as him not being invested, even though it's one of the few times he actually seems to care about a subject. And to his credit, even people here were saying it was a breath of fresh air compared to his normal dull and otherwise silent streams.
Phil himself even sometimes shows this "logic" by mocking people in the rare times he isn't blaming lag or his connection or whatever. He'll insinuate they are basement dwelling virgin losers who just spend all day mastering a game. Or insulting people for taking games too seriously, aka showing the least amount of investment. It is especially baffling/hypocritical when you consider Phil's past as a competitive streetfighter player on top of him streaming video games for 10+ years.
To top it off, Phil in general has a really weird fear of bullies, which I think extends past the usual detractor stuff. We know he's a coward, but something that really stood out to me was that tweet he made/prestream rambling about his first time shopping in the pandemic. It kinda got buried under everything else he was droning on about, but there was a part where he mentioned how he was expecting to be beat up/get into a fight at the store. I think this is the same view he has about his "nerdy" side. He thinks if people thought he was a geek for liking video games too much/knowing about comics and wrestling or whatever else, he'll be that sad loser kid he sees in the movies, who gets beat up by the jock character and just in general mocked by everyone else.
