I'm finding the community discussion on where the line is and why as far as ops go almost as fascinating as the original show. It seems a fair chunk of people are happy to observe from a distance and enjoy the results of the ops, while also not condoning them. Personally i think it depends how the dox discussion came about. Like if it were:
"Hey man - i've got this info I can dox you. the only reason I'd do it is because of your connection to this vile person who I consider to be fair game. That connection being you are head of a guild which benefits directly from his deception of vulnerable people who he begs ostensibly for grocery money but really to whale out, indulging on a mobile game and propping up your guild. If you severed that connection I wouldn't feel the need to publish, just giving you the option". I can see a lot of journalists doing something similar, and personally wouldn't consider it extortion. The public good argument for publication is lost if the group severs the connection I guess.
It would be different to a threat like "if you don't ostracise this person this then I will X", which i think is very bad.
