And again. Berman has no chill.

One of my old spacesuits is being auctioned off on eBay. I’m not sure why, but it makes me feel a little sad.
I’m sitting here, about to write a little entry about it, when my phone rings. It’s a friend of mine, asking me if I’m going to the Star Trek X screening.
“Yeah, on Wednesday,” I tell him.
“No, it’s tonight,” he tells me.
“Tonight? At Paramount?”
“No, it’s in Westwood, tonight,” he tells me, “I just talked with Marina about it.”
Oh no.
That feeling I have gotten so many times before, when I was the only cast member not asked up on stage at the 25th anniversary party, when I was the only cast member not recognized at the screening of “All Good Things…” begins to well up. I feel a little sick.
He wouldn’t do this to me, right? Not now, not after the conversations we had when I was working on the movie, not since the phone call informing me of the cut. This must be a mistake. Past is the past, right? We’re cool now. There is no way he’d exclude me from this.
But he did.
He did it to me again.
I want to cry.

Some stuffed shirt from Viacom gets up, makes some stupid speech that nobody wants to hear bout how great Star Trek is, and he introduces Rick Berman, who comes up to the podium, and makes another speech, about how great the last 7 years have been, and how it was through the work of some people, some people who are here tonight, that TNG was possible. Would those people please stand up? Patrick Stewart. Jonathan Frakes. Brent Spiner. Marina Sirtis. Gates McFadden. LeVar Burton. Michael Dorn. Denise Crosby. John DeLancie.
They all stand. The entire theatre is now on its feet, applauding their hard work, and commitment to the show. Berman is beaming as he applauds them.
They’re all standing up, except for me.
Berman looked right at me, and didn’t call out my name. The son of a bitch knew that I was there, and didn’t call me to stand. Later, I asked him why he’d left me out, and he said he didn’t know I was there. I told him that I was the one person, who was sitting with the cast, who wasn’t standing up. Maybe he remembered making eye contact with me, after he called Denise, and before he called on John DeLancie? It sucked, it was petty and it hurt.
Another time, I was invited to a big party for the 25th anniversary of Star Trek, also at Paramount. Again, I can’t remember if this was before, or after the aforementioned snubbing. Again, they sat us all together, and again, there was a “stand up and be counted” thing. Only this time, it was with all 3 casts. Maybe you’ve seen the picture? All three casts are on stage, holding these miniature American flags, which were given to them by astronauts who flew them on various space shuttle missions.
Again, I was left sitting, surrounded by empty chairs. I was so embarassed, as I sat there, feeling genuinely happy for my friends, from all the casts, who were standing on stage, and at the same time, I felt so tiny, and so lame…afterwards, I told Berman that I thought that was really shitty, and he said he hadn’t known that I was coming. Well, the thing is, when you’re the executive producer of Star Trek, you approve everything that goes on. Even guest lists.
And again. Berman has no chill.

You know, this is one of the things Wil doesn't understand, and as much as his lack of talent and his shitty personality explains why he hasn't become a success. (Because there are certainly enough people with both that have become Hollywood success stories that those can't be the only reasons.) You don't bitch out people who are alive and in the industry, and you especially don't call them out by name, over petty squabbles (which is ultimately what this is). Read some of Nimoy's stuff, read some of Shatner's. Both of them are very careful with exactly how they apply criticisms to others. They may criticize certain decisions, or outline how they had problems or differences of opinion with someone, but there is absolutely nothing like this, there's no snarling "the son of a bitch" about someone who's still alive and a fairly prominent figure in the industry. In fact I can't really recall them using that sort of language about anyone.

Wee Willy tanked himself the moment he decided to do shit like this. No one in the industry wants to work with you if they think that the first time they slight you, intentionally or more likely unintentionally, you're going to go running to your blog or publisher writing a tell-all about what a prick they are. And this wasn't even some fellow actor, which is bad enough, it was a director and producer... y'know, the guys that decide if you get to work? The moment he bitched out Berman, I guarantee you word spread that you didn't want him on your project or he'd be a tattletale if you ever blinked at him wrong.

I’d do Felicia Day but only in the butt.
Does she do anal?

Industry Relative assures me people better than Wil have been effectively black-balled from projects, studios, and even practically the industry for less than sobby blog posts. Talking badly about someone - especially to non-industry people, especially publicly - is basically you trying to show you have more clout than them.

And like most bullies, the absolute WORST thing you can do is to let them know that they've gotten to you.

This little bit of context makes Wesley being cut from Nemesis make even more sense; having someone written into a script with the express purpose of cutting their part is the sort of trolling show runners do.

It's funny but I got a side with Will on that one. If you're asking Denise to stand up you better ask Will to stand up.

Unless he wasn't invited and just crashed the event. Wouldn't put it past him.
Yea, but it's kind of the Jennifer Aniston syndrome. Everyone always feels sorry for her because she's "so sweet" but keeps getting dumped. After a while it's kind of hard to not realize that maybe there's something wrong with her.

As much of a delightfully dickish move it was by Berman, I didn't hear any account of his fellow actors taking up for him, exhorting him to stand as well. This is also the guy who thought it was good sport to take a swipe at Bill Shatner.

So what I'm saying is that I wish Rick Berman were here right now so I could shake his hand just for that.

John Milius got blackballed at the height of his career over nothing more than making Red Dawn and being a libertarian. My sympathy for Wee Willy is pretty much zero.

This is an interesting point I'd never considered. Most of the Trek cast -- certainly including TOS, TNG, and DS9, though I'm not sure about Voyager and beyond -- are famous for sticking together, acting more like a fraternity or even a family than just a television cast. Why, over the years since the show ended, have none of them ever stuck up for this mope? I have to wonder if that cringetacular display with Roxann Dawson was just the tip of a very ugly iceberg.

:hah:
Oh boy Wil's sad stories are fucking delightful to read. Unfortunately given how much of a self pitying liar he is I sincerely doubt any of this happened the way he said, or even if they happened at all. Odds are this is just decades long petulance at not being treated like the star of the show he thought he was back in early TNG days that he still feels to be the root of all his failures to make it big as an actual actor and celebrity

That said if this shit is actually true then Berman is automatically forgiven for all the dumb and mediocre shit he greenlit for Star Trek over the decades.

It was a little bit more complicated than that. Red Dawn, even though getting 'cult' status was a bomb, and would follow with a series of directorial bombs.

He just never had much success, as director, outside of Conan(Big Wenesday is great though).

He was also a notoriously abrasive and a difficult dude to work with(ego maniac). Ironically, doing the same shit that Whedon did/does. Also, he had a very short term memory on when his associates helped him finace his pictures.

Often times biting the hand that fed him in return....

With all that said, he got plenty of work as a writer(his niche), producer in both film and TV. His career pretty much ended after he had his stroke in 2010.

But, the blacklisting stuff is just a bunch of bullshit or revisionism. Noone gave a fuck about his politics, especially in the Reagan 80's.....

Hell, didn't Wil's slightly femmier counterpart Felicia sob that that had happened to her earlier in the thread?

At least that dumb bitch had enough sense not to name names. Of course her entire "career" has been built off of connections in the industry via the old dude she's fucking, so she clearly has a better concept of how the rules work than Wee Willy.

If you watch the documentary Milius there was a little more backlash from Red Dawn than you say. You're equating normal Americans in the 80's who loved Reagan to people in Hollywood. Trust me, they hated Reagan the same way they hate Trump. They just didn't have social media back then to whine every day. One of the actors in Red Dawn had it brought up when he was trying to get a part afterwards. "Oh, why were you in THAT movie?"

Milius' opportunities dried up almost immediately after, so no, no way is his blacklisting revisionism. As for biting the hand that feeds him, no again. He was willing to work as a writer for scale on Deadwood or Rome. He needed money to send his kid to college. One of the producers personally gave him the money for his kid's college and hired him as a senior writer. The producer was floored because within a year or so Milius paid him back in full. He said that is simply unheard of in Hollywood.

Turning to what some of you were saying about Wee Willy not being hirable because he's a loose cannon who would turn on you if things didn't work out, I offer his latest blog post.

I wouldn't doubt if Will is quasi blackballed in The Star trek world, just from his oversharing online.

Compare his online footprint to any other tng cast member, and tell me on a scale of 1-10 how professional Wil is compared to any other cast member. If you're professional and respectful, and have even a shred of talent the Trek shows will take care of you.

Just look at JG Hertzler and Marc Alaimo. Those dudes got so many guest shots over the years, then big roles, then tons more guest shots, because they were good actors who didn't bite the hand that feeds. Same for Rene however you spell his last name, and Armin Shemerin.

Wil is also the only "main" cast member that's never directed an episode of trek as near as I can tell.

It's like he never matured past his bratty teenage years, and asshole Wesley from that season 7 episode was him just being himself.

Someone needs to write a tell all when they are retired imo.

Wil is also the only "main" cast member that's never directed an episode of trek as near as I can tell.

Virtually every Star Trek actor that didn't come to the franchise already established in the acting world wound up moving primarily behind the camera. Voyager had so many wannabe directors on it that they actually set up a small class for it at the studio so the actors could gather there between takes. Thing is, the director's job is not so much about declaring how you'd like the acting to be done (which is a directorial style designed to make actors hate you anyway), as it is about logistics. You're the dude that has to schedule the shoots, arrange the on location shit, make sure you've actually got all the footage you need, manage everybody's time. It's as much an office job as it is anything else, along with all the technical issues of making sure the lighting is done right and all that shit.

Guarantee you that Wee Willy probably learned how much actual work went into it and never gave it another thought, much like any other halfass lolcow who learns that their dream job actually involves a lot more paperwork and sitting at a desk than ordering everyone else about. Probably just as well, he would've been shit at it.

I have a special complaint against Wil. This fucker reads audiobooks on the side to subsidize his shitty acting careers. The amount of books this nigger has ruined is unholly. Want to read some H Beam Piper? You have to sit through hours of this monotone autist screeching into a microphone. He is unable or unwilling to change his tone, voice, or do any sort of voice accent. Some of my favorite books have this degenerate in them

Supposedly, the TNG cast did try to run interference for Wil early on because of the flak he was catching over his character. Presumably, Wil burned some all his bridges (and I gotta tell you, considering Shatner managed to mend fences with practically the entire TOS cast, Wil must've been AMAZINGLY obnoxious).

That's pretty unprofessional of Rick Berman to pull those shenanigans, but considering who it was happening to -- and note that in NONE of these accounts does ANYONE from the casts say, 'Don't forget Wil Wheaton!' -- I start to wonder if it wasn't justified. I mean, wasn't Wil friends with these people?
