Agreed. I can see scenarios where it might be the best career path to move to a smaller firm, say, for instance, if his upward mobility at Kessler had stalled and he had a better chance of making partner at a smaller shop... but it would still have been better to make partner at the larger firm.

Something amusing from his profile about the new firm he's joined... It says, "The firm’s core commitment in achieving those goals ... is to do so with the utmost of professionalism. At Cowles & Thompson, professionalism means character, competence, commitment, and courtesy -- to their clients, to their employees, to their opposition, to their judges and to their community. " Makes me wonder if MoRon might just stick with Kessler Collins, because so far their tactics don't seem to align with the Cowles & Thompson business philosophy.
Unlikely. money is money and law is law. Casey has the case and unless mornica are willing to let him go, he's stuck with them. that said, Cowles absolutely can give him limitations on what moves he can do and they can order him to be civil with Ty.

in other words, whether Casey planned to or not, he played himself because now he has bosses who care about if their lawyers are defaming people and Ty can use that to his advantage. and probably will.

A lot of such shops will not keep you if they opt to deny you partnership or a path to partner. It's Up or Out.

"Professional Corporation," eh?

If they're professional, why would they hire Casey?
to be fair, Casey does have excuses to hide behind. Like him objecting to filing that document, kessler telling him to, and his clients demanding it in that exact style.

of course, you have to question casey's character. the coming events will prove whether or not such an excuse would hold up to scrutiny.

From his attorney profile on the link provided: "In June of 2019, Casey joined the law firm of Cowles & Thompson, P.C. as a Shareholder. " So he went from being a shareholder at one firm all the way up to the prestigious position of being a shareholder at a different firm.
I was thinking he upgraded to a new firm as named partner, but no it's same position

@ShinyStar Can you upload an avatar so I don't confuse you with Shane?
Yes, pls. Every time I see the tip of that grreen S I think Shane is back to spill his diarrhea unto the farms again.

Mea culpa. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa! I thought my box color would show as blue for everyone. I apologize for the emotional distress my lack of knowledge has caused. I would offer to pay for therapy, but the knowledge that I have been a shoe-eater impersonator means I'm going to need those therapy bucks myself.

That document leads to a number of questions regarding Casey, and how much he had been focused on or paying attention to MoRonica’s case. It’s not just what was in the document, but things you can very clearly infer from it. Like he obviously did not read or fully explore the web sites, and discussion threads he linked as evidence. We know this, because if he had there is no fucking way he would have put them in front of a Judge or Jury. They give far more ammo to Ty Beard then they do his client. He gave the judge a link to “I had a dream Vic climbed in through my bedroom window, held me down and passionately molested me! Therefore I know he’s guilty!” He’s a lawyer, which generally means he’s not stupid. Which leads one to suspect he didn’t read his homework. And that seems to have happened a lot. I mean in another filing he gave the Judge links to Nick Rekieta, an non party out of state lawyer providing compelling video summaries of just how bad his clients case is, and how foolish Casey is. This is not the sort of thing you want to put in front of a Judge. Especially not for some trivial point. It’s hours and hours of another lawyer proving you and your clients idiots. That’s never gonna end well for you. So we have to assume that Casey didn’t himself watch Nicks videos, didn’t read the ?Pull thread or Tumblr blog beyond the one page cut n paste an intern showed him. And he still signed off on it.

RodgerDodger and this is why I think they had to source Shane and the random internet lawyers to help. They couldn't afford to pay Casey to thoroughly investigate or work on their case. They got Shane to release things and got some feedback instead of Casey having to go through the papers. Then parts were selectively spread to the Twitter lawyers as a “hahaha look at this” to bait them in. Unfortunately, they got a couple of bites and that has rejuvenated them. I wonder if this can show malice too? Look at all the hate and work going into keeping Vic down.

And then he told the judge that Nick's streams were entertaining. He watched at least enough to know that...

I don't know about the PULL thread, but. . .

And possibly those links were some kind of very feeble attempt to raise a "libel-proof plaintiff" defense, but a link to a dead site and then a site with LIAR in the name hardly does that. It seemed nearly perverse. And then he didn't even list the libel-proof plaintiff defense in the affirmative defenses.

I think it's more likely that a ton of internet randos have been sending Casey "evidence" and he's only had time to skim it. We know that BHBH have received tens of thousands of documents and there's no reason to believe that Casey hasn't been similarly deluged.

Isn't that the same defense also known as "no good reputation to defend"? I thought the plaintiff had to be like a convicted murderer or something else ludicrously heinous to be subject to that.

Deluged, on short notice, and with a heaping side of Bullshit. BHBH had significant time to sort through, catalog, and consider everything. Casey probably had all of a week and was being fed disinformation by his clients. I am not a lawyer, but I am pretty sure rule one that a lawyer needs his clients to follow is "Don't lie to me".

There's this stuff called "document review" that usually occurs with law firms in discovery, and it's horrible, soul-crushing shit and many, many lawyers have done all nighters of this shit at some point or another. Often it's subcontracted out to firms who specifically do this all the time, but otherwise, it's teams of junior associates who end up going through thousands or, sometimes, even millions of documents.

There's generally some kind of processing software to automate it to some degree, where for instance, you go through your millions of documents looking for privileged material or otherwise categorize it.

The main reason anyone would do something this awful is if you're fast at it it pays a lot for nearly totally mindless work.

BHBH also had Rekeita acting as an unintentional filter. When Nick began receiving tips due to his coverage, and forwarding some on, it’s likely he was simply ignoring the most idiotic. Because that’s a thing you do. But Casey’s people didn’t have that filter and were being deluged with fanfic and erotic dreams and “my sisters cousins friends dealer told her...”
