He mentioned somewhere earlier that he was working for a marketing company "on behalf of Verizon."

I did the same thing for like four days. It's door to door sales of phone service packages.

Why anyone would hire someone who looks the way he does...especially for a sales job...is beyond me.

Because they only have to pay him if he makes them money. Plus maybe they dig the Mullet and his duke nukem shirt.

They'll hire just about anybody who isn't dead. As long as he didn't have to pay for his own demonstration kit then he's working for someone only slightly less sleazy then Cutco. He's not going to stand out among door-to-door salesmen unless he screams and cusses people out.

If this were any other job, he would've either gotten a "no" or would've been fired, depending on the job -- and that's only if you don't have a VERY good reason.

So, he's quit that job and thinks he's getting a better once, presumably off the strength of his mother's reference. From what I can gather, this new job is one where you'll actually get fired for being shitty at it (as opposed to simply getting no pay), so even if he manages to get hired I doubt this'll last very long.
