I saw this today, and read the full article in the morning shortly after. These cases of femicide never get any easier to confront and I’ve said too many times that despite knowing male depravity is an endless bucket of filth, it will always be too much to truly comprehend.

I can wonder about what’s wrong with men like the tweet below but I find myself wondering about Amber Gibson, the victim. What life she could’ve had. What was taken from her, because she is female, and for no other reason. A whole woman being (not a typo) tortured multiple times before being erased from existence because some men had an erection to satisfy. I won’t lie, I did shed a few tears for her. It has opened my mind to the idea of fostering female children only, if I am in a position to do so at some point in my life. They’re so vulnerable.

I genuinely envy you that you are still able to get so worked up about them. I fully agree, it is a completely unfair setup that men expect to go from their real mom to their second mom they can have sex with. But I legit can't take men serious any longer. If the other woman says no, she doesn't want to have sex, the choice he makes in that second is not "I'm going to rape you" but "I am having sex with you anyway" which is just marginally more inappropriate in his mind than every choice he has made up until that point. And so, the man is a rapist, without any premeditation, probably without even considering what he did to be rape. For some men the something that will stop them is the absence of a partner offering affirmative consent, but for far too many men, they will go much further than that, but because affirmative consent, consent, silence, verbal refusal, physical refusal are all part of the same continuum, anything can be justified given the right incentives. Hence, we see men who loudly proclaim they could never be a rapist, while defending their friend, a rapist.
I think "safe" men are men that don't have the urge based relationship with sex. Sex isn't an urge they have that they must satisfy, it's an activity they and a partner choose to participate in together for mutual enjoyment. The partner could be someone they just met, or someone they've been with for life, regardless, it is an activity they are both choosing together, not something the man does to her according to his urges. In practice, that's almost indistinguishable from affirmative consent, but the distinction is that with the urge-based man, there's always an open question about in what circumstance could their urges be stronger than their belief in affirmative consent? For Platner, it sounds like a little alcohol was all it took.
The urge-based man's urge to have sex is a boulder rolling down a hill littered with moral obstacles.
