WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was found “unconscious” and may have suffered a heart attack at his DC residence before being rushed to a local hospital last month, according to a District Fire and EMS dispatch call made public Wednesday.

The June 14 call referenced medical personnel in an ALS, or Advanced Life Support, ambulance being sent to the home shortly before 9 a.m. and mentioned there was “CPR in progress” for a “cardiac arrest.”

Punchbowl News first reported on the EMS radio traffic.

Reps for the former Senate GOP leader did not comment on the communications.

A McConnell spokesman on the day of the incident shared that the Kentucky senator “was admitted to the hospital this morning” and was “receiving excellent care.”

The next day, spokesman David Popp said McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also said his predecessor was “dialed in” on their conference’s legislative business, while Thune himself had spoken to McConnell by phone.

The 84-year-old has suffered multiple falls that left him with a concussion and cracked rib in recent years, in addition to eerie public freeze-ups due to apparent light-headedness.

In February, McConnell was previously hospitalized for flu-like symptoms. He’s been seen recently in the Capitol being escorted around in a wheelchair.

The Senate is on recess until July 13.

McConnell served as the leader of the Senate GOP from 2007 until January 2025. He had announced his plans to step down from the position in February of this previous year.

In February 2025, he announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election to an eighth term in 2026. Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) won the Republican primary race this year to replace him.

The 84-year-old
HE'S 84?!
In February 2025, he announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election to an eighth term in 2026.
Nigga...he was in there for SEVEN TERMS?!
It should just not be a thing for politicians to be so old they die in office.
I agree but this isn't a relatively new phenomenon - see John Quincy Adams, John Tyler, and William Howard Taft (ok he resigned from the Supreme Court a month before he died so idk if he counts). Still, we should have term limits and especially maximum age limits so this shit doesn't keep happening.
Rep. Tom Kean of New Jersey just got reelected despite having disappeared for four fucking months due to "depression."
Have they found this guy yet or is he still AWOL? Also "depression" is def not the real reason.
This dude is so ugly, a primary reason why "lookism" going mainstream would have benefits. No one under at least a 6 should ever hold any position of power from McDonalds manager to any role in Government.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt bc some sub 5s were absolutely Greek gods in their youth (Gaddafi comes to mind), but no, Mitch was always a sub 5.

I’ll get excited when the source of his brain death is someone more reliable than a yenta so deranged she’s federally banned from owning a firearm.

His wife did travel to China to meet the VP. For some reason. Totally not a CCP spy.

Laura Loom is claiming on X that Cocaine Mitch is brain dead. Do not trust the heeb. She usually isn't right.

For his wife to travel to China when her husband is in such bad shape is despicable. Hope her titties fall off. ;)

He's already dead. They're just maintaining the illusion of life by keeping his heart beating on life support.

If they don't admit he's dead and unplug him soon, he'll start to rot. The difference between life and death isn't having a pulse, it's cell respiration. If his cells can't reproduce, he'll decay even while on life support.

Washington retired at 65, there’s little reason we can’t bring that precedent to the modern day.
We absolutely need age limits for politicians. I don't care how sharp they might be in their 70s and 80s (and the evidence is pretty clear that they largely are not), it's ridiculous that these people hold on to their sinecures for so long. They don't even realize that they'd have far fewer issues with populist insurgencies if they'd mentor replacements, instead of sitting in their seat until they're literally too demented to even understand they're alive. This was an issue before the Boomers came along (look up Sam Rayburn and Carl Hayden, for example), but they've really taken things to the next level.

Basically, if you're eligible for Medicare and full Social Security, you need to get the fuck out and let subsequent generations have their shot.

Brain dead or not, the fact an 84 year old man that's clearly gone through full cognitive decline is obviously being used as a puppet for unknown, unelected people to influence our government is insane and is evidence that our system doesn't actually work

If you didn't know, his given name is actually Addison Mitchell McConnell, Jr.

Nyah, nyah, he has a GIRL'S name.

What? He isn’t even the first. He isn’t even the first this century. There were others LAST century. There were other PRESIDENTS last century.

This isn’t insane. This is insanely standard procedure. It ABSOLUTELY works as intended. Just not for us.

Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the Washington home of Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell last month to attend to an unconscious person who appeared to be in cardiac arrest, according to EMS dispatch audio reviewed by ABC News.

While the audio does not indicate who the person is, the incident occurred on the same day that McConnell was hospitalized on June 14.

At 8:36 a.m., a dispatcher directed an "ALS response" ambulance to McConnell's residence for an "unconscious" person. "ALS" stands for Advanced Life Support.

At 8:42 a.m., the EMS responder, identified as "Medic 3," responded to the dispatcher, saying "inform supervisor CPR in progress."

At 8:43 a.m., the dispatcher said "EMS to respond, for cardiac arrest," and once again repeated McConnell's address.

McConnell is not named directly in any of the audio.

A spokesperson for McConnell declined to comment on the audio on Thursday but did provide an update on McConnell's condition.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session," the spokesperson said.

On June 14, McConnell's spokesperson confirmed he was admitted to the hospital, adding "he is receiving excellent care." It's unclear if McConnell remains in the hospital.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on June 15 he had spoken with McConnell following the Kentucky senator's hospitalization. Thune told reporters McConnell was "dialed in" and "wants to be back."

Republican Whip John Barrasso also spoke to McConnell that day, a spokesperson for Barrasso confirmed. Barrasso said McConnell was "engaged" and eager to return to the Hill.

On June 22, McConnell's office indicated he was still working on Senate business, but would not be appearing on Capitol Hill for votes.

"Senator McConnell is still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery. However, he will not be voting this week," a McConnell spokesperson said on June 22.

McConnell has not yet returned to the Senate and was last seen on the Hill on June 11.

This is the latest in a string of medical incidents that the seven-term senator and longtime Republican leader has faced in recent years. McConnell, 84, stepped down from leadership in 2024 and is set to retire at the end of his term in January.

Thune possibly saying he talked to a dead man.
