WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was found “unconscious” and may have suffered a heart attack at his DC residence before being rushed to a local hospital last month, according to a District Fire and EMS dispatch call made public Wednesday.

The June 14 call referenced medical personnel in an ALS, or Advanced Life Support, ambulance being sent to the home shortly before 9 a.m. and mentioned there was “CPR in progress” for a “cardiac arrest.”

Punchbowl News first reported on the EMS radio traffic.

Reps for the former Senate GOP leader did not comment on the communications.

A McConnell spokesman on the day of the incident shared that the Kentucky senator “was admitted to the hospital this morning” and was “receiving excellent care.”

The next day, spokesman David Popp said McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also said his predecessor was “dialed in” on their conference’s legislative business, while Thune himself had spoken to McConnell by phone.

The 84-year-old has suffered multiple falls that left him with a concussion and cracked rib in recent years, in addition to eerie public freeze-ups due to apparent light-headedness.

In February, McConnell was previously hospitalized for flu-like symptoms. He’s been seen recently in the Capitol being escorted around in a wheelchair.

The Senate is on recess until July 13.

McConnell served as the leader of the Senate GOP from 2007 until January 2025. He had announced his plans to step down from the position in February of this previous year.

In February 2025, he announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election to an eighth term in 2026. Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) won the Republican primary race this year to replace him.

Reminder that Chuck Grassley is like 92 and has been in Washington since the 1950's.
He started politics in the 50's, initially a state representative in Iowa. He's been a US senator since 1981, however, and he's second in line for presidential succession if Vance and Trump bite it.

If that were to happen, then he'd become the oldest president by over a decade at 92. Imagine that.

I see that avatar, I think ShoeOnHead had something to do with the Turtle's demise, and then I'm sad because even though it isn't true its infinitely more interesting in that timeline

Remind me, would KY's Dem governor pick McConnell's replacement or would the Republican legislature? I remember this being brought up as an issue a few years ago.

Third option: would they have time to scramble together a special election by the midterms?
I would assume the governor would pick a temp replacement. Since cocaine mitch isn't running for re-election. Whoever wins in Nov. would be his permanent replacement.

Considering he hasn’t said anything and dropped off the face of the earth, I’m convinced he’s brain dead at this point but no one will say anything.

True, but I think they always fear the consequences of retirement. You don't want to be the politician who decides its time to retire only for your seat to be filled by some communist.

Its not really that, its a weird boomer belief that you can't die until after you retire. That there's a 15 year chunk of time labeled "retirement" that's in stasis above your head and it doesn't start to tick off until you finally step away from work. Even if they're ninety-eight? They think they'll live to at least 113 once they walk out the door, they're boomers, they HAVE to get their promised golden years, after all. Yes, they actually believe this.

They don't fear the replacement, they're rich and happy and the rest of the country could literally go to Hell and they'd see no drop in quality of life in their gated community. They'd love to be stepping aside for a perfectly groomed replacement who votes just like they did, but? It's no skin off their back if a literal communist takes over. They're going home to a steak dinner either way.

What they fear is being replaced because that means they're out of a job, which means they're retired, which means the FINAL quarter of the game is starting and they now have to worry about the Reaper getting close.

Before then? They were still working, so it didn't count.

We need something like the 25th for Congress. It was retarded when McCain did it, and Feinstein, and now this.
Lmao I almost forgot about Feinstein. Well guess what bitch, you’re still dead and I still have evil black rifles with the shoulder thing that goes up AND I don’t really like Israel.
