343 was gutted down to being an IP management studio farming out development in 2024, weren’t they? Happened with the rename to Halo Studios, as I recall. It's also worth noting that Xbox laid of 1,600 but also signposted they're doing another 1,600 through FY 2027 - so there's more to come but might be on pause for specific releases.
For example, the Coalition may be just waiting for E-Day to release before more layoffs, 343 might be waiting for their game, etc.
It's only halfway there so far.
Obsidian is so full of degenerates that they’re into that sort of thing. The invisible hand of the free market is fisting Obsidian for making shit games
They should all stop existing.all thats nice and pretty but some studios legit should stop existing
And only after a truly epic, 10+ marathon to kill one of the most popular gaming IPs of all time.343 was gutted down to being an IP management studio farming out development in 2024
It's a Fallout trait and if it wasn't attached to smug fartsniffing it would be a funny one. 10% less for selling, 15% less cost when buying.Another thing they did was give anyone who pre ordered the $100 edition an in game perk called "consumer" that was a permanent debuff to your character.
If only their asses waited for Rockstar to announce GTA 6's pricing, then they could've gotten away with it. SAD!You don't remember when they announced it was 80 dollars and then had to walk it back? I do.
Boy, up to 14 layers of management in the worst cases? No wonder nothing gets done.
14 Layers of Management is also probably corporate cope for "we did a bad job"14 layers of management is some shit out of the Soviet Union's infamous layer cake bureaucracy. Leonid Brezhnev wept. No wonder so many Xbox studios games have felt so sterile and designed by committee.
The layoffs may not have been a dramatic total studio death but I'm pretty sure they're trimming the fat. All the major players got hit with layoffs and DoubleFine and Compulsion are indie so they can go bankrupt on their own once the next wokeslop they make inevitably flops.
You don't, but the problem is that every meeting between those layers of management is a waste of time, and it's also a game of telephone both up and down the chain with information and instruction.14 Layers of Management is also probably corporate cope for "we did a bad job"
If you worked as a dev in some Microsoft studio, it really isn't that unreasonable if you consider realistically how often do you need to go that high up?
And this right here is an example of layers that don't need to exist or make any sense. Why is a QA manager reporting to a junior developer? The QA manager should be reporting to the department manager or the game director. There shouldn't be 6 layers of bullshit between the QA team and the game director getting a report about bugs found in a game, and then having to disseminate information back down the chain and hoping it remains coherent. Giving a report of bugs to a junior dev is a waste of time, because the dev team lead should be the one assigning issues to the dev team and it may be that a lead developer or different junior developer is better suited to resolving the issue. Instead you've got a structure where the game director doesn't hear about this shit until an all hands meeting, or the messaging has been sifted through 5 levels of bullshit meetings, they make a decision and send it back down the chain through another 2-3 meetings for the dev to work on, who may actually need to contact QA directly for additional information regarding the issue in the first place.QA Tester > QA Manager > Jr. Developer > Developer > Team Lead > Department Manager > Game Director >

Because it's almost certainly not arranged like that. At least when I contracted at EA in the late 2000's, we had a QA tester assigned to our tiny little side project, who technically answered to his manager for "boss decisions" related to his job, but reported issues to an internal tracking system and summarized daily finds to my boss (and cc'd to my team). It was a very small project, and although the QA tester wasn't officially on "our team," we all worked very closely together (and surprisingly effectively -- we smashed more bugs in a month than the entire team that hogged the rest of our floor did in a year). And this right here is an example of layers that don't need to exist or make any sense. Eh I like double fine games shame it takes a billion years for them to put them out and they probably are full of dei by now because that’s typical of how things go nowadays.
Avowed 1 came out last year, right? Too far along my ass.You left out the most important part:

THEY ONLY LOST 25% OF THEIR STAFF ONLY TO RELEASE AVOWED 2!
Oh man, Microsoft is cooked, there is no fucking way they are pulling up if Obsidian is getting spared because Avowed 2 was not only greenlit, but allowed to develop too far along to cancel.

Oh man, Id allegedly laid off 95 people, including all of their programmers. That essentially means Quake and Doom are dead franchises, what are they going to do just art for Bethesda games?
Avowed didn't have DLC right? Maybe they scrapped it to recycle in a full release on the relatively cheap and quick.Avowed 1 came out last year, right? Too far along my ass.
