Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

That's another disadvantage of PC gaming. Say a game was made when XP was relevant, now XP has reached end of life. You cannot reliably play that old game anymore on newer operating systems.
You can't reliably play old console games on new consoles, either. The problem is with digital distribution - you cannot install Steam and download your old, shitty games on your old, shitty PC. By contrast, you can order a used PS2 game on ebay and play it on an old PS2. It's a marginal part of the market, of course. There was a tiny, loud outcry when Steam dropped XP support, then nobody cared 6 months later. Same with Win 7 support. Soon, Win 10 support.

That's ... my point?

Say you have a PS2, that PS2 can play any PS2 (and PS1) title you have that is printed as such. (Are PS2s region locked? I don't know off the top of my head.) A PS2 remains a PS2 that can read CDs, DVDs, PS1 and PS2 optical discs.

A PC itself is able to be upgraded, be it with its software, operating system or hardware. Software compatibility with operating systems can be hit and miss for whichever reasons. It'd be up to the developer, or somebody tech-savvy, to make those programs compatible moving forward.

Sure. Somebody said this earlier. When operating systems reach their EOL status, they're more vulnerable to attacks or viruses. Steam is a platform. It would need to be supported with the latest software if possible if it wants to continue being a storefront. It wouldn't make sense for Valve to support Steam on outdated, vulnerable software.

That's not on Steam itself; that's the developer or whoever runs it.
It is on Steam when airing your greivences and telling devs to do their job gets you banned from a discussion section by a pissy dev that doesn't like being told not to be a rip-off artist, which accumulate on your account. You get hit with as much as 3 in x amount of time, you are banned from the community section of Steam entirely for an alotted amount of time.

Restrictions include: No marketplace access, no disscusion access beyond viewing, no ability to post reviews, your profile forced private, ect.

There have been multiple times where I have been hit with these bullshit bans months after posts were made because some shitty devs that ripped me off finally got around to acknowledging their dogshit game exists and took issue with me criticizing their behavior. These faggots should not have the power to effect your accounts status on the greater platform because you rightfully called them on their bullshit. The responsibility for such nonsense lies on Steam and their moderation.

I'm going to have to jump in and say that, that still does kind of piss me off. While I'm having difficulty finding where and when it was that Valve said they promised their community to have not done that. It was the sheer principle of it. They could've still have allowed Steam clients to run on older OSes, just take out the unnecessary graphical and feature-rich bullshit (ohh wow! I can hover my cursor over a worthless digital trading card and make it move around!) and leave that to modern systems. Just give us a launcher for our old games, because some old games from those periods, ran better than on modern hardware.

Take out the store too as well, it'd just be a barebones launcher.

And fucking Valve went and backhanded everyone by dropping support. It doesn't matter as to whether or not some lonely soul out there is still running Windows XP. It was going back on what you said about support. The whole consensus I've gathered is that the reason support being dropped at all one OS after another, was because of that piece of shit browser they've installed in their launcher.

Security? Probably, but then again, we're in an era where everyone does something in the name of "security" before doing something that is totally not about it being over security purposes. It's just smoke and mirrors to do some bullshit thing you know everyone is going hate you for but fuck them, do it anyways and call it "security".

It's something I still hate Valve for doing and of course the same people finding shitty deals today on Steam's sales, will fall over on anything Valve does anyways just because "my multi-billionaire doesn't do what other bad multi-billionaires do".

No, they couldn't have

We are in an era where attackers are using AI to generate malware based on CVEs within hours. Having unsupported software in your production environment is not viable.

Being good and being bad at a game are two sides of the same horseshoe.

Both types of players experience games differently than the average player.
I've been playing some Destiny 2 crucible tonight and I've been playing games where my teammates are standing still, not doing anything. I've been playign games where we have a 50 point lead i the first minute. Online PVP is the fucking wild west these days, you see barely functional infants and sweaty old men in the same lobbies with alarming frequency.

With SBMM, one match could be average, next match after, you're being dominated.

Points in video games seem pointless unless they're tied to progression or purchasing power.

I know nothing about Cyberpunk lore or if Johnny Silverhand is some kind of universally important character to it, but he completely ruins the setting in the video game.

Having a central character who'd died 50 years before the events of a game (whose whole schtick is "FUTURE!!!") understanding all the technology, politics, what's going on in the world generally, and even using all the same speech and slang as 2077 people was just a bizarre, terrible decision that's both nonsensical on its face and demolishes the suspension of disbelief in the fictional FUTURE!!! setting.

It's like making a game where James Dean is resurrected and he says "skibidi rizz fr fr no cap", uses a smartphone, and has strong opinions about the Trump administration from the moment he's introduced and it's just never addressed.

Unless you happen to still have a fully working XP computer (which I actually do btw). Only reason to still keep it imo.
You can't reliably play old console games on new consoles, either.
Some consoles have backwards compatibility though, like the PS2 being able to play PS1 titles and the Xbox 360 with most OG Xbox games.

I'm done. The Valve I once loved is now this bumbling billionaire retard that neglects shit and does absolutely nothing, not even the bare minimum. All companies gets insane amount of backlash for retarded shit, yet when Valve does it, nobody bats an eye. They're only real good contribution is Linux support. But that's about it.

But then again, with how the gayming community praises companies as of late (hint: Mihoyo, Rockstar, Valve), nothing will change.
I like them as a storefront but that's about it and they've been stagnant on that for years aside from new features here and there. They're 1# because the competition is retarded, that's it.

I love the library sharing feature where you and 5 other people can share games. I played helldivers 2, Cyberpunk, Last of Us Pt1, etc. for free.

A whitepill is that the mindless low impulse whales who spend all their money on dogshit microtransactions are genetic deadends. 20-30 years from now, Uncle Dane and Tyler Mcnigger will be old enough to have body problems like arthritis so they can't open lootboxes or play videogames anymore.

DSP likely spent anywhere from 30,000$-40,000$ on WWE champions and will never have kids.

All the whales going to Disneyworld are childless so eventually they'll all die off and Disney will have to start focusing on families again.

The cycle will end.

Ostatnio edytowane:
The game's lore and main scenario in general is just aggressively nonsensical in so many ways.

The whole in-universe setting relies on a cavalcade of boomer-tier misunderstanding of basic computer technology. I legitimately had to reread the wiki several times because it is so wrong that my brain refused to accept it as the real reason, I kept thinking there was something I was missing out.

I'm putting this behind spoilers just in case you're not at that point yet but here's what kicks off the main story:

- There are rogue AIs behind a "wall" (a fucking firewall).
- It is expected that at some point in the future they will break free and kill everyone.
- The Voodoo Boys (the Haitians) want to be on the winning side, either by becoming AIs themselves, or at least negotiating some sort of agreement.
- To do that they want to talk to Alt Cunningham, the "leader" of the AIs.
- Alt knew Johnny when they were both alive/human, so the Haitians think Alt will agree to talk if Johnny is present (even as an engram).
- During the heist, you (V) must hastily put the engram in your brain to prevent its destruction.
- A near-death experience activates the emergency function and your brain is slowly getting overwritten.

That's how you get entangled in the situation because now you can't just deliver it and call it a day.

***

The idea that AIs "behind" a firewall (a firewall isn't a physical wall for fuck's sake) are about to be unleashed upon the world and kill everyone is where my brain short-circuited the hardest. There are so many ways to make 50-year-old viruses a nonfactor, especially if they are supposedly an existential threat... which, give me a break, they won't be. Only someone who fundamentally doesn't understand computers could have written this. Since the entire setting circles back to this it is virtually impossible to take anything seriously.

***

The engrams themselves are useful for a 6th Day scenario (keeping valuable people in activity) but in the case of Johnny it is implied they kept it to torture it, which is honestly beyond petty and childish for such expensive technology. "I'll keep a picture of him and throw darts at his face for eternity", dude touch grass.

Small note just on principle:
The Voodoo Boys are the most insufferable racist cunts you'll meet. You'd think "I want to become a computer" has some overlap with "I don't care about the reality of the flesh". I enjoyed making them fry, a fitting end for a whacko doomsday cult to not see their own prediction coming: the AIs can kill you after all... if you give them access to an on/off button to your physical body.

The main quest really requires you to turn your brain off and accept it as a fantasy reskin. Hard to do that when you're familiar with computers and keep thinking why-don't-they-just-X.

What caused the most friction and almost caused me to drop the game was that I just didn't give a flying fuck about Johnny.

First Johnny is dead, what you interact with in the game is a glorifed chatbot at best, and malfunctioning at that. That makes the only good endings the ones where you get rid of it. Worse, it's not even a chatbot of someone interesting: sure he pushed the button, but he was just a fuck-the-system rebel. He had nothing interesting to say back when he was alive, no ideology, and now anything he might say or believe is 50 years out of date. I just don't care. Shut the fuck up.

Thankfully, I did love the game but mostly due to the secondary stories and how they intertwine so much. Most have variations or alternate endings depending on what other missions you did beforehand. Also, virtually everything you hear in rumors or websites comes up at some point: if you've read about it, odds are it's part of a future quest. It reminded me of the tavern rumors in Baldur's Gate. Really nice.

Don't even get me started on the "Community Moderation". Developers, especially scam devs which are so common, should not have the right to ban you from discussion forums provided BY THE FUCKING PLATFORM.

On top of that, those bans, which faggot devs can issue just because they don't like your opinion of their game, can hit your account with a platform wide community ban. Usually a temp ban, but a fucking dev should not have that fucking power on a platform where I am PAYING FOR THEIR FUCKING PRODUCT.

Do the Steam mods ever reverse this bullshit? Almost never. The Steam mods are all fucking Indians or hypersenstive faggots, just like half the faggot devs given power over a platform they do not deserve.

When you are selling a product, you don't get to shut down and erase criticism, this shouldn't be so hard to grasp, but Valve sure as fuck doesn't give a shit about this ideal. You can't even post fucking reviews when hit with a community ban, you're that fucking silenced.

The amount of fucking times I've gone off and made a disscussion thread warning of incomplete or broken games, just to get hit with YET ANOTHER community ban, while the game remains up, unpatched, still scamming people out of money. Valve and their moderation are beyond a joke.
if enough people report this retarded beehavior to steam itself the dev and all of his tranny jannies get reketed as it has happened before.
just hope it's an actual human being responding to the reports though, it is funny seeing the VALVE tag nigger responding to a thread saying "due to reports of abuse, we will moderate the discussions from now on" because i always imagine the trannies fucking fuming whenever it happens, removing a tranny's moderating ability is as powerful as saying their deadname.

seeing how gay steam discussions became is one of the reasons i stopped giving a shit about steam community crap, still better than epic though as some games have online/room shit that you can find people to play with without going to some shitcord server.

i just killed them because i couldn't stand their shitty accent, not even the fact that they were black, the accent is just so fucking unbearable, the rest of your post just reminded me of how CP77 is inconsequential, DLC especially because they never acknowledge your powerlevel, not to mention the retarded nerfs....

Ok, so why is Grand Theft Auto so popular? Back when GTA3 came out I was just as mindblown as everybody else because it was something new that hadn't been done outside of more rudimentary and niche games that were not mainstream then. As the games kept coming out however I basically lost interest because it's all just the same stuff. We have an accurately derogatory term for such tings now - GTA is Ubislop. Think about it, it's an open world that's appeal is mainly just it's size and it's held together buy strings of arbitrary collectable macguffins. I'm not saying it's garbage, but how is it one of the most popular series to this day? I just don't get the long term appeal.

edgy shit kids thought it was cool + third worldery is my bet.
SA-MP at the time of writing claims to have 14000 players, also GTA RP mostly being monkeys and ruskies, as in, the GTA RP clients, not people RP'ing in GTA V Online.

You're thinking of regular computer viruses. These are super viruses that they made using technology.

All people eventually die, most whales (I imagine) are descended from people who had kids, and kids eventually turn into stupid adults with credit cards. The cyberpunk nightmare only ends when the nukes drop.

Even if Whales never disappear, the gaming companies are going to get lazier and lazier until we reach critical Jeet mass and millions of consoles and PC brick from shitty code resulting in millions of dollars in damages forcing the game industry to violently collapse into the ground.

If you’ve been around tech, then you know updates breaks things in the past.
I have, and I’ve been around consoles long enough to know you’re a retarded nigger to have updates turned off then bitch about being delayed by them because of your retarded nigger stupidity in turning off the ability to have them install themselves when you’re not using the console.

it comes from a supplement 2020 book called cybergeneration which takes place about two centuries later, with whole idea of rogue AI doing a full takeover as much as shit getting apocalyptic

that said i do not think 2077 writing is particularily bad with exception that it was poorly adapted from a tabletop to a vidya

which is honestly beyond petty and childish for such expensive technology.
Completely inline behaviour for a CEO of a mega-corp though. A man with so much money and power, why not keep some fuck head who blew up your building on a memory stick to forever torture him? You spend a day watching it, then move on to something else. Forgetting about it, while it runs torture.exe until it either breaks or the heat death of the universe. It fits so well.
I think CyberPunk is one of those games you can't just use the acronym for. I get what you mean, but I don't like it when I see that acronym.
