Post odd shit you have found on goofish - chinese ebay
I suppose that china has a different shipping system than we do. I am sure all of us are picturing christmas vacation with the grandma who wrapped up her cat but I bet they have some sort of disposable cages and food blocks they eat while caged. Could be wrong though, someone may need to delve into some bbses
It's not uncommon in the US for people who raise chickens to order and receive baby chicks in the mail. It's also not uncommon for half of them to arrive dead.
As someone said earlier on the thread you really do have to be careful when ordering stuff from this site cause there is no fire regulations and while I got a really cool mp3 player from them recently it is still quite scary.
What I have here is known as the Tsinghua Tongfang PMC-V328
While it looks quite generic and had a giant black spot (unlike the listing) it still is quite a neat little unit. I'll get into that in a bit but let me get the elephant in the room out of the way. On stream when I opened it I found that it not only had an expanded battery but it was also expanded. In addition the wire inside was spliced and of the two wires soldered only one had protection from shorting with capton tape.
(apologies for the shitty ass camera but hopefully it provides a bit of what I am talking about)
Anyways what makes this hunk of e-waste so interesting to me? Well...for one it is made by a company that makes NUCLEAR TECH
But also its surrounded in mystery. For one when the site listed firmware they never included this unit. The archive link I included was from the last capture of the site under its old www.szthtf.com url and if you search from when it was made (in 2006) not a single link shows that unit. One may say then...oh well in that case they must have never released any firmware updates or revisions. But au contrair! If we search for the same unit listing on goofish right now we will get this:
While the color usage is similar to the unit I got its ui is distinct. The settings menu is incredibly basic and does not have any options to change the theme on the fly. So this indicates to me that there is other firmware revisions out there. Where are they? I honestly have no clue. I bet if peoole wanted them they had to reach out to Tsinghua themselves. I sent them an email however considering the time that has elapsed in the 20 years since making this I strongly doubt they still have information on file for this in any capacity.
A couple other notes I would like to make real quick
*The firmware revision inside is listed as 01.07.0952
*There is multiple language options available including english.
*The nand is a K9G8G08U0M-PIB0 (1gb nand)
*The cpu/seemingly aio chip is a Rockchip believe it or not...it is listed as a rk2606a
*The battery is a 3.7v standard li-on with no bms wire so it can be practically replaced with anything. I replaced mine with a nw-ws413 battery I stole from a parts unit.
It also plays video. Im gonna dive into that rabbit hole later as chinese mp3 players have very wierd proprietary shit going on when it comes to video playback.
Also. A couple bonus things I found this week;
You know those e-ink tabs you see at supermarkets these days? you can get em for like 5 yaun...
a long time ago before covid i bought this outdated android chinese gaming phone. the 78dian 78p01, also known as the Snail Much W1, also known as the iReadyGo. it uses an ancient version of android with some super ghetto bind-buttons-to-touch-actions feature. even when you could download those apps off of the play store, it sucked and i didn't really find it did anything well at all besides make shitty android 4.2 era mobile slop slightly less jank. it could play minecraft, at least.
I looked at it earlier this year and it booted up, the battery aint dead yet, but the rubber on the little analog nubs had cracked. China! also one more thing - one of the reasons i bought it was because the pictures had these whack ass graphics on the face buttons that looked like elemental symbols. but the one i have is white, and is has playstation face buttons.
Been a minute but I got a bit more lately. To start off I found what seems like a music cd but it has a cover that I can only describe as the asian matrix:
To follow it up we have another bootleg naruto, this time with those sage tattoos and doing a chidori.
I then found this one that seems to be for a band, except one of the ladies just looked like a backrooms villan.
This was more normal but I just found it fascinating where if I were to look this shit up on ebay it'd be no less than 25$ just for the battery charger. Here I found some dude selling for like 5$ Portable VideoCD walkman clones with in-line remotes still in their box.
Back to Video recordings, I then found another music cd. Except I noticed it had the gamecube logo just on the bottom right side. I have no clue why...the description just doesn't even aknowledge this. Maybe its compatible with the panasonic Q? No fucking clue. Another one:
To go with odd logo placement I also found this pepsi/boyband collab with a band known as F4
The music video has 18 million views:
Lets not forget the hit that was shown on mtv by stuart little: "Mice Love Rice" and "Take Me To Your Heart". I swear this is legit info and not schizobabble.
Even Michael Isn't exempt. This one even has him in that meme image with the kimono:
I should mention this is not a legitimate release, nor does it's isbn fall up as a reference. Rather it leads to The Best of Nirvana.
Then I somehow got into a rabbit hole of cassette players where I found this diy cassette player. I can't really find any reference to this kits existence however the recommendations show that there are several other people doing similar diy cassette player kits.
But not everything was so well designed and engineered from my search result rabbit hole as the next item I got was this all-in-one unit. Looks quite innocent on the outside right? Nothing too out of the ordinary:
Well then....WHY is the cd drive motherboard lodged with not even kapton tape protecting it right next to the power transformer with no screws?!?!?!?
Then upon the end of that days search I came across what I can only describe as one of the most interesting shelf units I have ever seen. This even includes a built-in crt. I have no idea if it is color or black and white but I bank on it being black and white as that seems to be a common trend.
It may seem like its probably connected by some flimsy rca cables or some other cheap connector but it seems like they decided to go a little fancy and put in a proprietary ide-like cable
I also found out the company responsible for the most blatant lego ripoffs on planet earth even has their own movie lineup too:
I got some more posts but so I don't make this too long I will wait till the end of the week for the rest.
I think the chinese see english text the same way english view american text; as aestheitic. I could be wrong but I wouldnt be suprised if they put random names or text on things like that tape player because it looks cool
