THEME PARKS AND ATTRACTIONS! Tweetsie Railroad! Knott's Berry Farm! Six Flags! oh yeah I guess those mousey universe guys too - Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas.
apologies to whoever had plans to make a Theme Parks thread but never bothered, the one in deep thoughts eats and is dead because this is more of a multimedia thing and I'm tired of waiting
maybe wife and me were lucky and it was firing on all cylinders but Monsters Unleashed at Epic Universe is fucking great and is really fucking great to the point it makes me rethink the possibilities of Universal doing a ride
also the view from Cabana Bay overlooking Volcano Bay is dank af
I used to work for Dollywood. Nothing truly horrific about the gig it'self, but
1: It really grinds home the reality of living on brokie wages in a tourist trap like Sevier county
2: You'll want to kill the nearest living thing if you ever hear "Jolene" again in your lifetime
3: Snakes. Don't work grounds crew if you're afraid of em.

wife is increasingly curious about hitting Dollywood, but she wasn't really feeling the food from some videos she saw
but yeah she's relatively late to the theme park game, iirc she worked at Islands Of Adventure one summer doing hair wraps or something but never really went anywhere in the parks
eventually she got to Disney World since my mom was OG going back to World's Fair small world, I was on big thunder as a fetus, so getting into that family meant it was non-negotiable
we got married in front of Cinderella's Castle
she's legit now, a week or two ago irl buddy was over and we're discussing the parks as he still goes, she grouses how they now that Maelstrom is gone Epcot is ruined forever
buddy and me are nerds for this going back to EPCOT Center, so it we explained that means she's finally become a real theme park nerd, now that she has a ride that's gone and she'll always be mad about
this was some non-cinnamon bread offering, so that may help
I'll try to not bring up it's one of the locations where you can ride the drop ride that killed that ginormous kid on I-Drive but without the death mod installed
I wish Warner wasn't so shit at deal making as they have so many good IPs that could be theme park greats, yet they are trapped with Six Flags which makes theme parks like this:
They didn't even try, they just placed Looney Tunes statues and signs around a bunch of basic rides.
To think, Universal almost got a Gotham City and Metropolis area till Warner pulled out for Six Flags. The concepts look cool, being a Burton inspired take:
In better news, there are rumors from last month that Warner will rectify this and allow DC in Universal. Maybe Universal will finally give up the Marvel rights for it since you know Disney is trying desperately to screw them out of it and the Simpsons.
Cartoon Network is also wasted. Nickelodeon gets a decent Mall Theme Park, all CN ever got was a shitty hotel and I believe a Cruise, other than Six Flags using the branding for a small bit for Hanna Barbera toons. Adventure Time deserved a sick ride, it had all the iconography for one.
I was very surprised to see chatter of ambitions in the past few months of getting Treehouse of Horror into HHN
I was under the impression that Simpsons were even more of a "when not if" than Marvel going away from IOA
but yeah really they're both sort of wasted at Uni, not that I really expect modern Disney to do anything worthwhile either
if anything there's a certain charm of "Marvel Circa 1998" to the whole cheapness of IOA that will just be shit DIE cheapness at Disney when they don't have to one-up another park like that robot Spider-Man at Disneyland

TimeWarner owned Six Flags for a while. Probably some sort of long-term contract like how KFC and Taco Bell still serve Pepsi products despite the fact that they spun off what is now Yum! Brands in 1997.

It's this exactly. Warner wanted to get rid of Six Flags and ended up making a deal with them that they had full rights over Warner's classic toons and DC as part of the split-off. Now Warner is incapable of giving the IP to larger parks, though I think there may be an expiration date which is why DC/Universal is being rumored.
Not sure if CN is part of the deal though. Six Flags kind of terminated them and turned Cartoon Network into Camp Cartoon (now defunct) after some retarded shit about Adult Swim.
there are many positive terms I could use to describe Uni Orlando
"cool" will never be it
I don't know what the fuck they did while building that place, like zombify Osceola himself, then rebury him, then build the park on top of his new extra voodoo injun burial ground, or what. but holy SHIT even for around Millenia and a giant slab of cement Universal is the most godforsaken blighted heat factory I have been in like if that stretch of Fantasyland was the entire fucking property
I was biking outdoors every day not even a half hour up I-4 and I was floored at how fucking unbearably hot it was at Uni when my wife and I went a couple of months ago.
And holy SHIT they only make it worse by refusing to build for Florida
a thousand years ago my folks and I went between when BTTF went in and when T2 3d went in, and as Disney lifers were appalled at the queue for BTTF being exposed to the elements like it was with all of three fans to go around
thirty years later wife and I get in the line for Simpsons and SAME FUCKING UGLY RED CLOSTROPHOBIA RAILS, NO ROOF, SAME THREE FUCKING FANS

Thats literally just anywhere in Florida. Its retarded hot and humid. And they were building the Harry Potter section last time I went so its been a long time.
I feel these days I may be a bit too old for theme parks or just need to have a child with me or something since I didn't get to experience them much growing up, so I don't exactly have that sense of whimsy or nostalgia for them. Hubby and I went to Tweetsie a year-ish ago visiting his side of the family and while I didn't mind it at the end of the day, I was just grumpy from sleep deprivation in the first half. Also despite having seen Pseudiom's video on the park, I might've been expecting something... more? I dunno. Scenery was nice.
My family was planning on taking a trip to Dollywood this year until things came up that has pushed those plans back for like another year. It'd honestly be better if we just go to Knott's Berry Farms instead since it's closer, but then that just means having to be in California.

I am a natural born Florida man and was bicycling to work six days a week within the Orlando sprawl for years until I got hit by a car
it is unnaturally hot down there
Dr Phillips/Millenia is on the warmer side, but the combination of that and the absolute refusal by Uni to design for Florida is rough, like I was seeing 98 there when at home it was 90
gotta give props for really pulling off Super Nintendo World and that classic part from SMB3 with "Surprise! The Sun is here to murder you!"
but yeah there was a lot of neat stuff in the various Harry Potter areas but we'll have to go back in winter so it's not so bad and we can actually just stand around and look at all the storefronts and crap
oh lol I was just looking for something weird and smalltime to mention
I went there once with the family back when I was like, six? eight? def single digits
I vaguely recall it was a nice little charming mountain town

It's a nice area, for sure, and there's the zip line across the way, and another attraction down the road called Mystery Hill that looks like fun ngl. But lol so we went with hubby's uncle in his truck which was probably a good thing because holy shit what is wrong with North Carolina roads.
i was afraid of roller coasters and rode two on accident and then fell in love.
my first roller coaster was the blazing fury at dollywood. i liked it but did not want to ride more coasters, i didnt know what kind of ride it was because it was indoors. this was like 20 years ago but all my memories the one time i went make me wanna go back. if you go take the train ride but watch out for train robbers.
my second was at the kansas city worlds of fun, years later. decent park. been a few times. not in the last 5 years or so.
big fan of the mamba, the dragon one, the boomarang? and the panther coaster?
I haven't been back since I worked there. Honestly, me and my wife have had enough of that joint for one lifetime. As for food, it's okay, and The Backstage (only sit down restaurant left there when I was employed) is pretty good, but none of it worth what they charge you.
At least one positive; Dolly Parton herself is a total bro, makes a point to meet and thank the working stiffs at all levels during her visits.

I've generally been a pussy about coasters, but I had a fun enough time on the Hagrid Coaster that I'll try some more next time I'm at Uni.
one thing I noticed about the Hagrid Coaster was the way a lot of the drops also sorta turned into an inversion so it's not so much the straight down drop feeling, I think that's more what I dislike on coasters?
Ended up my wife pulled her hip early into the trip so she could sorta get around but most of the time was in a wheelchair to play it safe, and it's one thing to dump her for a half hour or so when she can wander but yeah that's not really so cool when she's stuck, so I'll try for more coasters another time
one thing we were REALLY impressed with was the way they did the theming up to the nines on Mario Kart and Monsters Unleashed even in the wheelchair access areas
a lot of times you go from the enchanted land to industrial subcorridor B3 to the wonderous forest and it kills the immersion, but they did all the same levels of texturing and stuff on those
Once I witnessed a baby's diaper essentially fall apart in a theme park pool. Swim diapers were supposed to be used. The parents approached and informed the lifeguard their child was sick and had diarrhea. The lifeguard emptied the pool immediately, then call the office at a nearby phone station (this was before smartphones) to inform management.
Once management got there (within 5 min) the lifeguard was promptly screamed at by (teenaged) management, told they should have cupped the shit out of the water and let everyone stay in the pool.
This place has before, and since, been in trouble for E. coli and other issues. I refuse to go to waterparks now. I do not think I am missing much.
Love rollercoasters and thrill rides, but the general populace of these kinds of parks have changed greatly since, say, 2005 or so. I do not attend them any longer. Rather go hiking.
People seem to be disagreeing on whether or not a new animatronic pirate was a good or bad addition to Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, mostly due to it muddling the ride’s lore (it’s an AA of a living pirate that becomes a skeleton after handling a piece of cursed Aztec treasure) and its usage of projections for the facial animation.

Yecch, I remember when I was just an itty bitty kid visiting a water park in the Nashville area (my old man used to travel a lot for work and would bring the rest of the family along for some trips) and I caught strep throat from the water there.
But then again I went to another water park last year and ended up fine, I guess my immune system wasn’t up to snuff back then.
