That seems to be an admission that he saw it from a fair distance away. Not wise Nick. If you start reconstructing what he is saying with speeds and distances and physics, you will always end up with Nick speeding and/or being distracted.
For Nick's version to work, the loader had to be sitting there stopped and then gun it at full speed into the middle of the road a few hundred feet and a handful of seconds before Nick tried to cross in front of it.

There is also a good possibility that Nick might have accelerated and tried to beat it across the intersection. That would also be a very Nick thing to do.
