My point is, Pat should've known from second fucking one that this was never going to be a good idea. Any FF14 stream that focuses on the story, and isn't just a shooting the breeze stream while the game happens in the background, but wants the story content to be front and center, is going to be fucking miserable and run out of steam very, very quickly. The game quite simply is not exciting enough to carry a stream on its own content.

Maybe Pat just hasn't touched the dogshit ARR story in so long, he genuinely forgot just how bad it was. And to be fair, I'm not even sure what they could've done about it. Make a story hour stream, where Pat compiles the actually relevant dialogue and cutscenes into a movie that summarizes the main quest, then they pop a story skip potion and go straight into Heavensward? But even though FF14 is a pretty fucking shallow game, there's no way in hell Woolie can figure out all its mechanics and esoteric jargon without being drip-fed the way the game does it during the story. Should they have played the boring shit off-screen? But then you lose the "he's playing it for the first time, you guys!" appeal of live reactions. But this way, the live reactions you get are the appropriate ones of extreme boredom. It's a no-win scenario.
Pat (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is actually being a true bro for Woolie and is drip feeding him one of the easiest "break in case of emergency" streams in an effort to actually help Woolie out of his slump. The "new player goes through the story" is generally the only FFXIV content that the FFXIV audience likes so Pat is right that this is a good time to strike as it's the slow part of the game for all current players (I know he didn't say that, but, maybe he's not a complete retard).

ARR is not great, but it isn't that bad and only really drags from like ~28 to like ~45 on top of the fact that this is only Woolie and Pat stream/LP in recent memory it drew thousands of viewers across two streams.

This is Woolie's stream stats for the Year to Date, guess where the Pat collab FFXIV section is. If he can refrain from being a huge whiny bitch about having to work a bit at his job, he's being fed a golden opportunity.

Part of me is proud of Pat for actually helping Woolie out but part of my is still extremely cynical of Pat and wonders if he's using this for his own FFXIV audience and/or trying to use this as an "in" to be on the FFXIV press tour like the other FFXIV streamers.

If people are following him around, that's fucking hilarious. Play off of that and make it a running gag. Be appreciative of the fact that you even have an audience who care enough to have fun with you like that in a social game, and don't take for granted the community. Work them into the experience and show some fuckin' gratitude.
Someone hopefully told him once in his life that if you visibly get mad at someone for doing something - they're just going to do it even harder. Literally the Streisand effect.

I thought Woolie was a cool dude who was just dumb, but he might actually be a dick. Not the level of a Pat, but like a Pat Lite.

There are literally dozens of fun Final Fantasy games to choose from if you're looking for the FF audience. Is he just in denial that his channel's dying and trying anything, like attaching himself to the FF XIV squad like Shenpai and the others who got famous off it? Is anyone is this extended content creator group even likeable anymore?
Woolie is just autistic seems to think that he's above being a streamer - which means no chat riffing or interaction, which is fine to an extent but he can't really carry a stream by himself (and also why stream, just Youtube, but money).

It isn't just Shenpai either - a lot of FFXIV streamers blew up when the WoW exodus happened. Generally speaking though they're mainly popular going through the story and drop off hard when they get to the boring/repeatable content (roulettes, farming, extremes, ultimates, etc).

It's extremely easy.

I know people in this thread don't really enjoy positive examples but Preach Gaming did this exact thing during the exodus, going through the same boring story and sidequests and it fucking saved his channel after he was dying from leaving WoW.

All he had to do was buy in, play along, validate the degenerates and the no-lifers. And he did it solo, not with a fucking speed dial mentor and half-dead parrot on his shoulder.

Now? He's a fixture in the FF14 press tour, he's interviewed the director multiple times, and the FF14 audience shows up for him every patch cycle. Very consistent.

I don't want to be histrionic here, but acting like a bitch on the first FF14 stream, when viewership is going to likely be the highest it will ever be, is such a devastating mistake.

Woolie seems to fucking despise the notion of his success coming by obvious vectors. I think the Woolie Way is not just him being an obligate contrarian (though that's part of it for sure), but also this desperate need to succeed on his own merits, as opposed to just doing "what works" and succeeding that way. My best guess is that it makes him feel derivative, or like he didn't so much earn his success as he just pressed a button that created guaranteed success. He is just so dunning-kruger'd up that he doesn't realize he's too fucking stupid to break the mold.

This FF14 stream must've been a huge wake-up call for him. Look Woolie, if you just do the easy thing that gives people what they want (play a popular game with a notoriously parasocial audience, actually interact with your audience like a fucking streamer would, collaborate with Pat/other popular creators, etc.), you can be successful! The tried and true easy methods work, they work so fucking well, one single stream blows everything you've done in several years out of the water. No wonder he got pissy, imagine trying so very hard, then doing something super easy (presumably after Pat pestering him for ages and under heavy protest), and it works out just so much better. His entire philosophy going down in flames. You love to see it.

Surely someone must have been in Woolie's ear to tell him this was literally the worst game he could possibly stream / LP? Like, it's long as shit, it's mainly filler, it's very difficult to learn and get good at, and you need to be a very entertaining streamer to keep things fun and entertaining for the viewer.

If people are following him around, that's fucking hilarious. Play off of that and make it a running gag. Be appreciative of the fact that you even have an audience who care enough to have fun with you like that in a social game, and don't take for granted the community. Sad times :feels:

edit: can't believe liam did this.

He and pat already talked too much about MMOs and woolie awknowleged it sounds unaproachable to him, but woolie is like a retarded 3 legged dog and Pat likes retarded dogs more than his son. Both probably thought it would get a lot of viewers from this because people love to see streamers try out their favourite MMO.

I don't think woolie is a dick (well maybe) but i this never had a chance to work because Woolie's brain isn't wired for an MMO and the way Pat handled this was bad. You need a specific brand of autism to enjoy MMOs like FF14 and woolie lacks that one.

I think woolie simply can't deal with large social games. He doesn't have the experience or frame of reference for it. If a random stranger talks to woolie in a videogame he would say "whoa this is just like an INVADER in DARK SOULS!! How do i disable this!?" out loud. He is not going to stop the videogame to chat with strangers or a group of 20 people.

Having pat babysit him in Dark Souls was much easier when they were 2 friends on a couch, but now he has a bunch of people around waiting for him to have fun yet and he must find this more annoying than wholesome.

Woolie is also the kind of guy who is not curious/smart enough to learn by himself but also too proud to let people tell him how to play (imagine woolie in a raid), so i assume Pat is tard wrangling him extra hard and woolie is resenting the game.

Yes, i know a smarter person would try harder to learn and enjoy this or at least fake it but woolie is not a smarter person. Whenever he was forced to lets play a game he disliked, he made sure to sandbag the LP hard as possible (remember ultra despair girls?). We should be making bets on how many streams it will take.

edit: I seen the clip of woolie with 50 people popping fireworks around him and the first thing he says was "I thought you said i could turn this off". Would it kill him to just say "hi" lol.

It really reads like satire.

>a bunch of people appears
Woolie: *Morphs into darksydephil* Woooow. Wow wow.
Pat: And this is a wednesday afternoon :)
Woolie: I thought you said that you culd turn this off? *laugh*

Woolie: Hold on let me just clear this sanctuaries thing...
Reggie: Well hello everyone!
Woolie: It's something about rested bonus-
Reggie: They are clapping woolie, they're all laughing THEY ARE CHEERING YOU OOOON.
Woolie: Yeah this is the experience.
Pat: This is the experience of streaming this game as a new player :)
Woolie: The experience of getting sniped.

Pat: By the way everbody popping champagne, that's money. They're spending money for you :)
Woolie: wow you whales. Uuuuh well, spend your money while i read this text box.

Was this stream five hours of this? At this point just have reggie play the game dude.

Pretty much, he bitches about the crowd roughly every five minutes while Pat shifts from trying to convince him it's nice to weakly conceding that it's 'a little crazy' by the end of the stream.

The energy is totally flat at the end too, they end it like hitting a brick wall and then Woolie speeds through his superchats with canned responses.

It's so embarrassing right at the start of the game, Pat is glazing Woolie's furry avatar design so hard that even Woolie gets weirded out by it at 1:00:24.
"Wow why don't you reach around the table" LMFAO

Who played an MMO worse, Woolie with XIV or DSP with WoW?
We have to see how woolie behaves in a dungeon first, this is critical

God dam just about every wow streamer did during the fucking 2021-2022 death spot of Shadowlands.

I said it when it was announced Woolie will be overwhelmed and bored.

Woolie cannot play a game with other players like this. The moment you inject other players he can no longer play things the way he wants which is this perfect pure single player experience he is in control of. Even if he didn't have players following him he would still see other people all the time and be unhappy with that. Woolie actually detests the things that make MMO's unique the communal co-operation they should be naturally encouraging he hates. Because he wants to do this all himself.

Its not a special type of autism to enjoy MMO's its the loop of leveling and power progression (in good MMO's) that hit like crack. Woolie seems to be the type of person who isn't really impacted by this at all and if he can't get into that there's no hook to keep him entertained until the story picks up in ARR. I am one of the crazies who think ARR being slow is good because i think MMO's are better when they start with much slower lower stakes stories that escalate as you level. But you need to be into the gameplay of the MMO to hold you until then.

For not FFXIV fans - here's the levels of that in which Woolie can descend to from best to worst. Unlike World of Warcraft, dungeons are mandatory for progression so there's no getting out of it - just getting around it to varying degrees. A party is Tank/Heal/DPS/DPS with Woolie being DPS on a fairly dead server.

Best - Woolie put on his big boy pants and queues with actual random players via the duty finder
- Pat goes as a tank class with Woolie and randoms the Heal/2nd DPS
- Pat goes as a tank class and hand picks the other two from his guild/chat/whatever before hand to ensure there's no fun/memes/spoilers
- Woolie goes in with a party of mute NPCs, negating the entire MMO experience
Worst - Pat goes in as a level 100 and clears the entire dungeon without Woolie doing anything inside of ~2 minutes, negating the entire dungeon

I fully expect it to be something that Woolie instantly ruins, even if it stops him from running into someone named "Matthew Kowalski" in the duty finder.

It will be fun to see Woolie in an MMO dungeon with defined roles. I don't think hes ever touched this. I think he may have touched some modern games that have a "dungeon" type setup but without defined roles so its just a few people all dpsing shit down seperately.

Woolie is not going to understand the tank leads and you follow them.

He has people running over to literally throw money at him, cheer him on and he's being such a bitch. Holy shit Woolie, why play a MMO if you don't want to deal with people? He's not even being griefed. Just tell your fans that you hate them at this point, Woolie.

This is why Reggie is new Better Woolie, he gets the vibe.

Can't Woolie just do Trust Dungeons or whatever its called with NPC? Or is that only newer dungeons?

Basically he's a giant pseud hipster.

Another example is how literally every single streamer around him restreams and reacts to major gaming showcases/directs/whatever, and rushes to get the reaction highlights out as fast as they can onto youtube because it's the closest thing to injecting pure meth into the arm of any gaming related channel as you can get. I'm sure everyone here remembers the SBFP reaction to like the DMC5 reveal and how hype it was. Woolie however goes out of his way to not do that on his own, instead saving it for boring after the fact podcast recaps, because he thinks it's beneath him and he doesn't want to be the hype react black man.
