Pat (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is actually being a true bro for Woolie and is drip feeding him one of the easiest "break in case of emergency" streams in an effort to actually help Woolie out of his slump. The "new player goes through the story" is generally the only FFXIV content that the FFXIV audience likes so Pat is right that this is a good time to strike as it's the slow part of the game for all current players (I know he didn't say that, but, maybe he's not a complete retard). My point is, Pat should've known from second fucking one that this was never going to be a good idea. Any FF14 stream that focuses on the story, and isn't just a shooting the breeze stream while the game happens in the background, but wants the story content to be front and center, is going to be fucking miserable and run out of steam very, very quickly. The game quite simply is not exciting enough to carry a stream on its own content.
Maybe Pat just hasn't touched the dogshit ARR story in so long, he genuinely forgot just how bad it was. And to be fair, I'm not even sure what they could've done about it. Make a story hour stream, where Pat compiles the actually relevant dialogue and cutscenes into a movie that summarizes the main quest, then they pop a story skip potion and go straight into Heavensward? But even though FF14 is a pretty fucking shallow game, there's no way in hell Woolie can figure out all its mechanics and esoteric jargon without being drip-fed the way the game does it during the story. Should they have played the boring shit off-screen? But then you lose the "he's playing it for the first time, you guys!" appeal of live reactions. But this way, the live reactions you get are the appropriate ones of extreme boredom. It's a no-win scenario.
ARR is not great, but it isn't that bad and only really drags from like ~28 to like ~45 on top of the fact that this is only Woolie and Pat stream/LP in recent memory it drew thousands of viewers across two streams.
This is Woolie's stream stats for the Year to Date, guess where the Pat collab FFXIV section is. If he can refrain from being a huge whiny bitch about having to work a bit at his job, he's being fed a golden opportunity.
Part of me is proud of Pat for actually helping Woolie out but part of my is still extremely cynical of Pat and wonders if he's using this for his own FFXIV audience and/or trying to use this as an "in" to be on the FFXIV press tour like the other FFXIV streamers.
Someone hopefully told him once in his life that if you visibly get mad at someone for doing something - they're just going to do it even harder. Literally the Streisand effect. If people are following him around, that's fucking hilarious. Play off of that and make it a running gag. Be appreciative of the fact that you even have an audience who care enough to have fun with you like that in a social game, and don't take for granted the community. Work them into the experience and show some fuckin' gratitude.
Woolie is just autistic seems to think that he's above being a streamer - which means no chat riffing or interaction, which is fine to an extent but he can't really carry a stream by himself (and also why stream, just Youtube, but money).I thought Woolie was a cool dude who was just dumb, but he might actually be a dick. Not the level of a Pat, but like a Pat Lite.
There are literally dozens of fun Final Fantasy games to choose from if you're looking for the FF audience. Is he just in denial that his channel's dying and trying anything, like attaching himself to the FF XIV squad like Shenpai and the others who got famous off it? Is anyone is this extended content creator group even likeable anymore?
It isn't just Shenpai either - a lot of FFXIV streamers blew up when the WoW exodus happened. Generally speaking though they're mainly popular going through the story and drop off hard when they get to the boring/repeatable content (roulettes, farming, extremes, ultimates, etc).
