I was trying to watch to take notes. I realized part way through the finale that its straight up the ending of Soma.
Soma is a very good game, from star to finish, it explores themes nicely and makes you think after you finish. The ending hits like a truck and the mc seems like he does care about being a digital copy.
Tadc characters care about it for 5 minutes, then the plot turns into self insert tranny Chronicles. It didn't even weight on them, they don't care about it past the 10 minutes mark, nor they don't even ponder some questions that can be interesting to wonder, specially in a show that jerks itself as a "absurdist, horror, existential character driven show"
"What happens when the power runs out? who's been maintaining it? what if the PC switches off? how can a PC from the 90s run this crap and access the internet? Do they age? Do they go crazy or is kinger a special case? Can they live forever? Can they be uploaded to the internet?"
It's crazy that the staff was masturbating themselves with it, comparing it to avant garde movies, the end of Evangelion or any type of niche movie that is deep for 12 year olds. And not only did it not deliver, but it seems like it was made out of spite for the losers that but the merch/people that call themselves fans, who goes to a theater and goes "boy I sure do hope that this movie wastes 40 minutes of my life by being a therapy session (or more accurately, evidence of lack and need of) about the tranny who made and his self insert, the remaining time is the good episode that came after, 3 minutes of exposition about a question had since the first episode, 10 minutes about a bland redemption arc about a guy who they spent the past episode hating, and basically the status quo (except the tranny got replaced by the ai)
Hideki Anno at least had the decency to make his show and movie good, with good characters, lore and the self insert got somewhere without being as annoying and masturbatory as Jax (shinji is more self deprecating if anything lmao)
