More HBO book "accuracy". This is Mr. Dursley.

1.JPG

The retards making this series seem to think being "book accurate" means the opposite.
  • Black Snape instead of pale Snape
  • slightly overweight Mr. Dursley instead of fat Mr. Dursley
  • indian & italian siblings instead of indian twins
  • indian infestation in Hogwarts instead of Hogwarts population of Britain in the 90s
  • magic is natural instead of magic is supernatural
  • dark, ugly colors instead of bright colors

It seems the Muggles are in the 1990s, but the population is very well in the 2020s.
And... maybe that's where the magic(k) comes from...?

I don't think Mara LePere-Schloop knows what magical realism is.
For the record:

Magical realism is a literary genre and art style that presents a realistic, detailed world while incorporating magical, surreal, or supernatural elements as normal, everyday occurrences. It blends mundane life with fantasy, treating extraordinary events without surprise or lengthy explanation. Popularized by Latin American authors like Gabriel García Márquez, it is often used for social or political commentary.
Key Characteristics
  • Realistic Setting: Stories are rooted in a recognizable, real-world setting.
  • Naturalized Magic: Fantastical events (e.g., flying, ghosts, supernatural occurrences) are accepted by characters as normal, not as astonishing.
  • No Explicit Logic: Unlike fantasy, the magic in magical realism is rarely explained or given rules.
  • Social Critique: Often used to highlight political, social, or historical issues, especially from the perspective of marginalized voices.

While it's not exclusive to Latin America, one of the reasons is popular here and it became so prominent in our literature is because of the absurdity of life. It's not about ghouls or dragons, rather about weird things that happen and we just shrug and say "well, magic!".

This is magical realism, Harry Potter is not.

That's not even slightly overweight, that's skinny-fat at best. I suppose Uncle Vernon being grotesquely overweight might be considered fat-phobic or something in the modern day so they decided to make him normal-looking.

It just feels like a lot of the casting is wrong. Isn’t it Nick Frost as Hagrid? His face is far too skinny, and his voice too soft. He honestly would make a better Dumbledore than Lithgow who is at least ten years too late.

Petunia reminds me of that Tammy movie.
McGonagall could be good, I think I’ve only seen a screenshot but she has the wrong face shape for McGonagall (they’re going to dress her the same as Maggie Smith, high collar and dark, so her jawline is going to be aggressive)

And having black Snape so far only be shot in shadow comes off more as inexperienced crew than keeping him mysterious or gloomy or whatever they think they are doing.

Pretty sure half the problem with casting Hagrid is Ozempic ruined all the Fat actors.

I think we only have Russell Crowe and Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon) left as Fat actors.

Mark Addy would have made a great Hagrid.

"Start the damn Quidditch match before I piss myself"

Nick Frost is too cuddly to be Hagrid. Robbie had some grit about him in both looks and past works, whereas Frost is mostly known for doing comedies.

Baratheon reference works entirely too well, Hagrid is a bit of a drunk in the books.

To be fair, Hagrid has the same problem as Snape, the original actor was too perfect. Nobody is going to replace Robbie Coltrane

The only way McGonagall is getting salvaged for me is if they give her a thicker Irish accent, and include her best moments in order of the Phoenix. McGonagall vs Umbridge were my favourite parts.

dark, ugly colors instead of bright colors
I fucking hate that they are using that awful “edgy” color-grading from Deathly Hallows Part 2.
Hmm, yes, Lockhart... Again, how many races have blonde hair and blue eyes?
At this point I can’t think of anyone else that can make a good Lockhart besides Antony Starr. He’s fantastic at playing incompetent sociopaths.

I just hope that they give some of the younger cast members from the old movies a chance to audition. Pretty much everyone except Robert Pattinson faded into obscurity while the older cast like Jason Isaacs, Kenneth Branagh and Ralph Fiennes just have their talent aging like wine .

Lockhart is going to be flamoyantly gay & asian and they will neither change his hair nor is eye color because racism.

At this point just make every new cast member various shades of black, brown, asian , disabled & LGBTQIXYZ. That's what the HBO wokists dream of doing anyway. The series was ruined from the beginning so it would be hilarious if they really went trough with the diversity nightmare.

One thing that hasn't exactly been brought up but I believe should is the budget of this damned series. It's allegedly costing about a billion dollars a season for it.even if we're generous and say each season is only 800 million, still the cost is possibly 6.4 billion dollars. Even if we go all the way down to half a Billion a season, were still in the 4 billion range when the og films combined costed 1.2 billion ( 1.9 billion when adjusting for inflation).

It's certainly not looking like the money is on the screen

What sort of dingbat wizards would exist in South America?

Lockhart should be an Indian. I can't think of a group that thinks so high of themselves as much as they do, which makes an Indian actor a perfect Lockhart

This is why making this reboot is a mistake. People still remember the former cast, including those who died, and comparisons will always be present. And I doubt most of the marketing will get rid of the merch featuring the old cast, which is also unfair for the new cast. I insist that this should have been an animated series and cast the same actors reading now the audiobooks.

The ones giving people ayahuasca. Plot twist, it's not magical, they're just scamming muggles.

Where the fuck is the money going? How are they still spending billions on these series when theyve cut down labor so much with outsourcing and computers and AI and India?
