I remember when I made a conscious decision to disconnect from the bullshit of real life and just play video games. I had the best years of my life and wish I could go back, but they introduced SBMM and AI-censored chat.I remember before I quit playing video games about 15-20 years ago, they were already so good that I would turn on Call of Duty and think I am going to play for a few minutes and then before I knew it, 8 hours had gone by. Its like what I imagine a crack binge must be like.
So did games. For a while too, ultima 4 apparently helped a girl get through depression back in the day.Great films helped people overcome psychological problems
You compare it to animation instead. Or are animated movies not art as well to you?I’m not even sure how to properly start comparing cgs or 3d graphics with actors who convey their emotions through their performance..
Neither can you listen to a painting or read a pice of music. All forms of art are experienced differently and use different tools to convey their meaning. Games can do things that no other art form can do, at least not well. Same with every other. That's like saying an interior of a church or mosque can be compared to a scene in Maya. Painting can tell a story about a person's life or history of a country. where do videogames fit here? you can't play those things.
So digital art drawn using modern tools like krita or ilustrator isn't the same as hand drawn art because why? How far does this go have I actually never read half the books i did becouse I read them as an E-Book rather than proper paper? You misread my whole post, hand drawn art isn't the same as a bunch of pixels.
I feel very passionate about games-as-art and want them to recive the recognition they deserve. The thread about video game opinios will have people passionate about video games, go figure. I could ask why the other side of the barricade feels the need to assert that they aren't since at the end of the day aesthetics is probably the least important part of philosophy. From an extrmely utilitarian point of view all art has no fuction and is a waste of time and resources. Imagine if all the money that wen't into the film industry went to feeding children instead.I have no idea why internet chippies feel the need to assert just how much of an art computer programs can be, or why they don't really waste their time like druggies when playing their Steam library. Entertainment is basically a waste of time by definition, games have been around for centuries.
Art direction can sell or hinder your experience in video games.I have no idea why internet chippies feel the need to assert just how much of an art computer programs can be,
Did I misread the title of this thread? We get it, you don't care for video games. All well and good, but you don't have to be pretentious about it like a certain somebody.
100% of cinema/tv and 99% of books are commercial entertainment media just like video games. No, the fact that people compare commercial entertainment software designed by the likes of David Jaffe with cinema or books says a lot about their taste.
I gave one example, so that must be the sum total of my gaming experience. Yep that's that gamer logic for you.So ONE series, a series that caters to the lowest common denominator at that, shaped your self-absorbed viewpoint on video games? Good to know.
I'm not saying movies/art are great. I think the jews were onto something with their prohibition of the 'graven image' in Exodus. They have always known the power of the image and you can see it today in how everyone is being reduced to idiots via our image-based society. What do you think art is? Imagining that the portrait you're looking at is real, and getting a hit of nostalgia or amazement at it. Fits video games like a glove. You also get nothing material out of looking at them.
Hell, a lot of what we call "high art" was just religious or political propaganda to serve the local rulers. So the next time someone whines about a game or show being woke to serve certain agendas in power, that wouldn't be necessarily new. It's just that the skill level and subtlety are missing.
have you seen the things that 'serious people' consider art thoughnobody serious considers games art
Your opinion is belittling people that love to engage in the hobby. You're no better than people who hate sports yet want to share that with people that love sports. "Why do you watch sportsball, there's other things to watch? Why not watch a play or a documentary?!"Did I misread the title of this thread?
Case in point. That being said, I still think video games are another step downwards towards us becoming total mindless cogs.
The Jews still had statues of angels inside the temple. Try again.I'm not saying movies/art are great. I think the jews were onto something with their prohibition of the 'graven image' in Exodus. They have always known the power of the image and you can see it today in how everyone is being reduced to idiots via our image-based society.

Because comparing the two helps me avoid stupid addictive video games and read books instead. And because this thread is for unpopular opinions about video games. Oh and because I believe what I am saying. What's wrong with comparing mediums? If a new medium comes along, we shouldn't ask how is this better or worse than previous ones? What are the effects of the medium on society? Does the medium generally require a lot of technological sophistication so that only rich evil fucks can make "good" games that appeal to the masses? To add to the dogpile, why compare entirely disparate mediums in the first place?
Because it's objectively wrong. For every Great Gatsby or Lord of the Rings, you have smut fiction made for middle-aged women that make most games seem clean by comparison. Hell, ASOIAF straddles the line between complex political thriller and food porn.Because comparing the two helps me avoid stupid addictive video games and read books instead. And because this thread is for unpopular opinions about video games. Oh and because I believe what I am saying. What's wrong with comparing mediums? I agree, if you put them in the context of a product for teens/kids.So did games. For a while too, ultima 4 apparently helped a girl get through depression back in the day.
I don't compare anime or any cartoons with Bosch, sorry. You compare it to animation instead. Or are animated movies not art as well to you?
I don't need to listen to paintings or read music. There's literally nothing comparable computer programs could possibly provide.Neither can you listen to a painting or read a pice of music. All forms of art are experienced differently and use different tools to convey their meaning. Games can do things that no other art form can do, at least not well. Same with every other.
Sorry, that's simply dense. Reading ebooks is just inconvenient, putting hand drawn painting, dolls or tools even against a computer is crazy. That's like saying travelling is the same as watching 3d Google maps.So digital art drawn using modern tools like krita or ilustrator isn't the same as hand drawn art because why? How far does this go have I actually never read half the books i did becouse I read them as an E-Book rather than proper paper?
Nobody did that 'on the other side of the barricade'. Someone put his view, I commented,I feel very passionate about games-as-art and want them to recive the recognition they deserve. The thread about video game opinios will have people passionate about video games, go figure. I could ask why the other side of the barricade feels the need to assert that they aren't since at the end of the day aesthetics is probably the least important part of philosophy. Yeah. I was talking art as in some spiritual experience, as opposed to consuming a feed of images from a TV.Art direction can sell or hinder your experience in video games.
Yes... the masters largely want to ruin reading/education and make the dazzling, spectacular distractions that turn your brain into mush as appealing as possible.Usually, most readers are forced to read books for a class they couldn't care for, and they forget damn near everything they read. I've seen students even fail basic questions when the book that has all the answers is right in front of them
What? I don't play video games to discover a "spiritual awakening" or what have you.Yeah. I was talking art as in some spiritual experience, as opposed to consuming a feed of images from a TV.
Even films like Night of the hunter is not entertainment, it's comparable to half decent theatre. Whereas video games are ultimately toys.100% of cinema/tv and 99% of books are commercial entertainment media just like video games.
video games (depending on genre) can require quite a lot of mental effort to play, and involve learning,
You're shaming my love of debate, because I shamed your love of playing make believe in a virtual world.Your opinion is belittling people that love to engage in the hobby. You're no better than people who hate sports yet want to share that with people that love sports. "Why do you watch sportsball, there's other things to watch? Why not watch a play or a documentary?!"
Case in point.
No, I don't. That's the point, videogames are awesome, fun, beautiful even. But they''re ultimately a waste of time, a very fun waste of time. I wasted years of my life on them. What? I don't play video games to discover a "spiritual awakening" or what have you.
Sounds like his opinion about video games is...unpopular.Your opinion is belittling people that love to engage in the hobby.
