they are out of almost all conventional munitions at this point. the only way iran was actually able to cause any significant damage was volley barrages that would overwhelm missile defenses, but were too costly to keep up for more than about a week. now, they're failing to launch more than a double digit number of drones and missiles a day, sometimes only single digit.

You're assuming both that the US and Europe are rational actors. They are not.

To give my take. Nobody expected Iran to go full tard. They expected them to close the Strait. They didn't expect them to also target as much oil industry as they could. The US didn't think they needed help, but turns out they do. Because they didn't think they didn't need it they postured. And since the US also postured with Greenland the EU is taking their free laugh at the hypocrite moment.
The thing is, if you step back and look at the wider picture, the asking for help and the refusal of it is political theater in of it's self. As I outlined it would take a month to get a task force going, at best some European nations could spare SHORAD systems maybe some of Fighters in a week or two. I think Trump knew the Europeans would say no, and is planning to use that as leverage later. I think the Europeans knew they couldn't say yes and said No in a way they could appear reasonable to their own people but stick the knife into Trump's ego as revenge. I think Trump's real goal was to get Japan and or Australia involved to start getting the Pacific Wing of the Murica alliance in a more cohesive state.
