Korea's situation was very different though, they had very little infrastructure before the Korean war and the aftermath of the Korean war destroyed even more of it so they basically had to start from scratch. Iran had been modernizing its own infrastructure during this time until the Mullahs took over and had an almost decade-long war with Iraq. But even after the sanctions and wars, they still have decent infrastructure to sustain themselves even if it is aging. Depends on how the US strikes them and if civil war between ethnic groups happen, but I think they can still salvage themselves instead of rebuilding from scratch.

It is being handed over to Mauritious because an international court said it should be, and even though that court has no binding power over the UK, it has declared something as a legal requirement, so Starmer is obedient to it.

I wouldn't put much stock on what the Venezuelan military said. They have been coping about January 3rd every day since it happened, they have been myth-making about that day to justify their massive incompetence from super weapons deployed by the Americans (goybeam) to the MinDef saying that he didn't order any aircraft to intercept the Americans as to "not waste lives". They got caught with their pants down, that's what really happened. They did fire some SAMs but they were very ineffective given the very few numbers that they were able to fire.

Yeah technology quality only paints half the picture, maintenance, operator training, and whether said operators were even active at the time of approach are crucial components as well. There's ways around radar jamming for example, but it's seriously doubtful the average chavista AA unit had any training in it or the awareness, planning, and tactical imagination necessary to account for it. Your average dictatorship grunt isn't going to be putting much effort into their job, especially when the US is content to posture and threaten for months on end before pulling the trigger out of the blue.

Iran in this case will be similar, especially after Israel degraded so much of their integrated air defences last year. The question isn't whether any decapitation strike succeeds, it's how well one does and whether it is enough to bring about regime change fast enough to stave off government collapse and civil war.
