Depends on the pol, depends on the election cycle. The LDP is moving further right now than it has in some decades, forced by the recent successes of the Sanseito and Conservative parties.

The way it worked in Islam was that rulers who needed loyal, professional soldiers without existing tribal, regional, or familial loyalties that could conflict with service to the state. These were often boys captured from frontier regions or slave markets. They were also highly dependent on their master for pay, advancement and well-being so they'd even more loyal because of this.

Where this would backfire in the long-term is that they could be freed upon the completion of military service and become part of a military caste. Over time they'd become more independent and established from the state or dynasty that created them. The lack of connection to the land would become a double-edged sword as well.

For historical examples of this how could go wrong: Mamluks seized power in Egypt, slave soldiers took over in India when the Ghurids fell and the Janissaries tried to revolt against the Ottoman Empire which ultimately resulted in their disbandment.

Important caveat: Mamluks were almost always fair-skinned slaves and not dark-skinned slaves. European children being conscripted as part of the Ottoman janissaries? We're good. Turks who resisted Islamisation? Perfectly acceptable. Niggers from the Swahili Coast? Nah man. Don't put them in your army. They're subhuman house slaves you can't ever ignore lest they ravish your wife while you're out on a hunting expedition.

Yeah, that last one is not a fucking joke either. The 1001 Nights, aka the Arabian Nights, start with a frame story where Shah Zaman, Shahryar's brother, literally murders his wife and a servant (explicitly defined as black in the Egyptian recension that Burton used, the one that has a full 1001 Nights; Syrian recension is more ambiguous). Then while he's visiting Shahryar, he's all emo and morose until he watches his sister-in-law get ravished by 10 black dudes... and yes, that detail is consistent across the Egyptian and Syrian renditions. Bear in mind: the 1001 Nights predate Islam and have stories that stem not just from Arabia, but also Persia, Egypt, the Maghreb, and India.

I know progressives are broke brained but I genuinely do not understand how you can take homosexuals seriously.

Because Shah Zaman took comfort in the fact that his brother's the bigger cuckold compared to him. Misery loves company. There's also a scene where a woman trapped in a chest by a jinn forces Shahryar and Shah Zaman to plough her lest she wake up the sleeping jinn... and this broad had like 100 wedding rings from men who ploughed her while the jinn was sleeping. Hence "1001 nights."
