I personally don't buy into Christian conspiracy culture, but Fr Malachi Martin's Windswept House catalogues (in fiction like Upton Sinclair's The Jungle) a conspiracy within the Catholic Church to hollow it out from the inside while installing Lucifer on Peter's throne as the head of the Catholic Church. Fr Malachi Martin isn't some fringe conspiracy theorist; he was actually a cardinal or otherwise had really close ties to the Vatican in between Pope Pius XII's death and the advent of Vatican II. Now if Malachi Martin started talking about jinn being invoked to eternally curse the Catholic Church with black magic, then it would have my interest. As it stands? I think someone else may have said this, but I believe it's recorded in such low quality to prevent people from downloading the videos and proving them to law enforcement for evidence. The lower and grainier the quality, the harder it is for anyone to identify subtle details that give away peoples' identities or locations

There is a drawback to downscaling or otherwise converting 4k/1080p video to 480p: if your bitrate is shit (think 3GP/MOV-era YouTube videos), 480p will still look like Bloxville, TN. 240p, even 144p, is actually watchable if your bitrate is sufficiently high enough. It won't be nice, but at least you can make out the text on some jack-off's poster to some extent. If you're on the up and up with ffmpeg, it's a moot point. If you use a dodgy online downscaler tool or some local proprietary application, that bitrate takes a huge nosedive.

When 1tb storage is standard with phones, or they bring the SD card slot back, you might see non 2004 quality video regularly. It's a matter of storage being at a premium

Oh ok, that makes sense. It's a storage issue. I on the other hand don't have my phone out all the time I just have situational awareness. So I would have gotten that shooting video in good quality but you probably wouldn't have seen the build up to it.
I would have had the good quality video but if I was lucky it would have started recording at the beginning of the pepper spray.
