Kurosawa is one of the absolute greats. A lot of his movies are pretty heavy and cerebral and tax you to some extent for watching them, but you will be made better by watching them. A combo of movies I recommend is The Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven, back to back in either order.
It's amazing when you realize a Jap made the best American Western to that day, while being entirely faithful to Japanese history, and this was realized by Americans to the point we remade it as another movie that was also a masterpiece.
Consider also that this was less than ten years after our two nations were on a state of total war and we had nuked them twice and, arguably even worse, firebombed Tokyo to the ground.

I'm going to ignore the implicit insult to women. I have no idea what you mean by seeing (political, macro) things through the eyes of others. If you're talking about empathy, I obviously use quite a bit of it with individuals - along with rationality and threat- and other types of assessment. Further, that [choice to be empathetic - which is, by the way, limited and specific] is never without deliberate decisionmaking, and, in point of fact, my choice to do that is a matter of seeing things with my own eyes, an intentional choice. Not sure to whom you're concerned I (or women in general) are self-subjecting our views, but if you think women are, compared to men, mute cows with no original thought, you are sadly mistaken. Women are absolutely as capable and attuned to suspect sources as men. (I'll leave aside any competitive assertion that we are better at it, because, from an intellectual standpoint, though there may be broad (aggregate) stylistic differences between men and women, both men and women possess the same theoretical analytical capabilities.). So, I reject your implied suggestion that women are inherently less capable of individual and autonomous thought.
