Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

It probably wouldn't be this bad if people stopped preordering and paying for early access. Not paying anyone in advance unless absolutely necessary is one of the most important lessons in life.

Have you seen this? It's a quote from Secret Of Monkey Island ("never pay more than 20 bucks for a video game")... adjusted for inflation.
$20 is $20. And i hate the whole aDjUsTeD tO iNfLaTiOn argument that people make to justify $70-$80 games.

Single slot autosave is the worst kind of saving system. I remember how in one of the old Ass Creeds I couldn't even try out a crossbow because the game would save right after buying it. You could get it somewhat early, but it was expensive.

Just let me save whenever I want unless I'm playing a game where it's clear that death matters (roguelikes, Souls games).
But Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a roguelike

I don't really enjoy modern Nintendo games.

I can't put my finger on what exactly it is, but pretty much across the line up of franchises, I'm either so disinterested that I don't even know what's coming out, or the games I have tried have just been huge let downs.

Luigi's Mansion 3 just didn't feel good, and left me bored.

Pikmin 3, I was getting to the end of what I thought was an extended railroad tutorial, right when I thought the game was about to open up and let me off the rails, and then the credits rolled. Saw my friends kid playing pikmin 4, and couldn't believe how "cutesy" the tone was. In the first game, Olimar would write diary entries, talking about how he was going to die alone on this strange planet, never seeing his family again. Or expressing the guilt he felt, watching the local race he had enslaved as soldiers, dying on his behalf by the dozen.

I've never been huge on Mario, and while the variety of world's was cool, odyssey just felt bloated and tedious

Zelda was one of my favorite franchises growing up, but I honestly just don't get the hype for breath of the wild. It feels aimless. And while in some ways, the open world exploration is a return to form, at the same time, it just doesn't feel like a Zelda game at all. Tears of the kingdom, I haven't played, but the whole "building" mechanic is just a headscratcher for me.

Ironically, I think one of the big criticism for most of Nintendo's IPs is how derivative they've become, so its a real let down that Zelda is probably the one they're experimenting with the most, and it just falls so flat for me, while being so seemingly successful. I'd also say that historically, Zelda has been one of their more experimental franchises. Links Adventure, link to the past, that gameboy game that was a dream, ocarina, majoras mask, wind waker, twilight princess, even those DS games, all felt like they were innovating, but still retained the core experience of a Zelda game. While I didn't like it much, even skyward sword feels like Zelda. Breath of the Wild feels like a starfox adventures situation, where they just slapped the branding onto an unrelated game late in development

I'm not huge on pokemon, but I loved Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, so you'd think the switch games might appeal to me more... But not really

The only reason I own a switch is because a friend just gave it to me, along with a couple games. I've had it for probably 3-4 years now, and I'll occasionally try to get some use out of it, only to inevitably realize I'm not really interested in the first party titles, and I'd generally rather just play third parties on PC

I'm sure nostalgia plays some factor, but I don't think its the main element. I can go back and play classic games that I didn't play as a kid, games from before my time, or games from consoles I didn't own, or genres I didn't play. I can even enjoy a modern game from other devs on occasion. Something has just shifted in the design philosophy of Nintendo that's made me lose interest

It could be worse, I guess. At least they're not crammed full of micro transactions

Location-specific damage was fun the first time I saw it in Unreal and then never should have been in another FPS again forever. The meta of every FPS for the last 20 years being to beam each other in the head has made the genre worse in every way.
My dream game is a super autistic multiplayer FPS that explains in point why the Geneva convention exists.

If you get hit in the head, obviously you're fucking dead... but if you get shot in the leg you're basically disabled and waiting there until someone finds you and shoots you. If you're shot in the arms you're unable to use any weapons so are forced to run back towards base while knowing someone can shoot you in the back while you're unable to protect yourself. If you're shot in the stomach or lower organs you're grounded, are going to die and there's nothing you can do but fire a stray round as you pass away.

No respawns per round, if you're dead you're out of the game.

A game that reinforces that war is actually really fucking bad and not something to really gamify, and no matter how good you are and no matter how prepared you are, a stray bullet is all it takes for your life to be over.

Granted it'd probably only have two players ever and both would quit after getting caught by a stray bullet through a door but it'd be MY autistic war game.

Haven’t even thought about buying a Switch 2. Why would I? I know exactly what I’m gonna do with it: download Dolphin.

Console gaming is basically Waiting for Godot but for GTA VI.

Concur, I imagine in this specific scenario because it's JewbiSoft, that they do this intentionally. As for the rest of the developers who force this into their games that do not fit the two genres you've defined, I want every person responsible for that system to have their knees totally destroyed.

This is it. This is the absolute zenith of modern video game dialogue. Whoever approved of this needs to be publicly shamed and banished from touching anything related to entertainment. One of the characters even does the "seriously?" valley girl response. This made me sick. I am now physically ill from watching this absolute piece of fucking shit. Shame on any of you who purchase or play this game. It CANNOT get any worse than this

"OMG, like, why can't we like just reduce the polarity of the field generator so we get off this super lame planet? I'm sooooo sick of eating tube protein, right? I just want to drink a bottle whiskey, watch my girly tv shows and relax in a nice warm bath. Is that like too much for a space girl to ask for?"

I fucking hate modern video games. They are the worst thing ever created in the history of mankind. Superman 64 is a thousand times more enjoyable than this tripe.

It's Owlcat, they write a plethora of character (-types) and let you rub off of them, usually.
My concern is more that, due to the more modern AAA scope of a Mass Effect like and reduction of possible companion constellations, the role-playing will suffer, and you have to go along with most of them or the plot won't happen.

Here's a real spicy take.

If you have a 4k gaming setup and expect stable 120 fps for new games, don't bitch about poor performance. You're in a small minority of gamers who chose to gamble on high fidelity gaming. 60fps at 1080p is still, and will be for a while, the standard benchmark games are developed for.

A 3090 GPU with a 60fps monitor runs games flawlessly and looks great.

Gag me with a spoon!

The voice acting over the scenes doesn't even go together. It's like they just tacked it on as an afterthought. Imagine having to hear Beverly Hills 90210 here drone on and on through the whole game. Hopefully it's not like that and these clips are more spread out. It's still really irritating. Why did they choose that kind of voice? Nobody likes that.

One of the tags is choices matter. So be prepared once again for your choices to barely matter. And it looks like there's gonna be romance. Some people on Reddit say the blonde might be romanceable. Just hope she's not the one with the valley girl voice.
