I'm more inclined to believe that was fake than genuine emotion. The only time I can see him actually being sad and showing it is when he runs out of money, or WWEC shuts down.

he does not understand any fighting game. he thinks certain moves have "priority" instead of knowing about frame data. and he talks about "timing" almost every stream, which as far as I've been able to decipher is him trying to get a counter hit, only to usually get counterhit himself by faster moves.

Phil only understands that when they do x move, you do y move. Anything beyond that gets into "these losers play everyday and I can't because variety streamer mature adult businessman muh family blah blah".

The biggest difference I see when watching top players is they do spacing, they know the proper ways to avoid and defend. It doesn't seem like any of that crosses Phil's mind, he certainly never verbalizes it beyond a facetious "good parry!".

So, while Phil is good at Street Fighter, he's like the gatekeeping level for the actual good players who learn and improve.

It's always a wheel of excuses, whether that's lag, the opponent abusing something, or my favorite, opponent using top tiers (which btw, again, if you watch CvS2 or MvC2, that's Phil's strategy... abuse top tiers and hope for the best).

He also can barely articulate why he wins either. He rarely ever acknowledges when the opponent makes a mistake. And he has no strategy based on his opponent. He plays everybody the same, then gets mad when that 1 strategy doesn't work. The only game I know really is MvC2, and pressuring his Magneto kills him within 10-15 seconds, if you punish his assist spam he's fucked, and if you deny his "joke" team with BB Hood any super opportunities, he gets destroyed in that game too. Most people don't know you can just punish assist spammers though. Phil can't even do a DHC in MvC2. He's trash.

I don't think he ever realized how bad he is, at least not to a full extent. He is playing a game that requires good hand eye coordination while having notoriously bad hand eye coordination, he always misremembers combos or misclicks in crucial moments, sometimes he would make a combo only to be slightly off-range so it cannot hit the other guy, and I've seen him jump into fireballs or Hadouken projectiles without knowing.

You see more or less the same things when he plays call of duty or Mario Kart where he would barely be able to aim the firearm or dodge incoming obstacles even if they are in front of him.

Guy isn't just bad, he is handicapped and delusional.

"Great" is really pushing it but I will concede that his decaying eyesight may be part of the reason for why he sucks even more than he ever did. You can see this whenever he replays a game he hasn't played in years, he always does worse at them than when he originally played the game.

Phil's poor eyesight and age in general makes him worse at games. It happens to all of us, more so for a middle-aged man we know is supposed to be wearing glasses. As was said, he jumps right into fireballs many times on stream. But, it's in combination with him still thinking he's hot shit based on what he knew 20 years ago.

There was another Dutch dent revealed in the last couple months. Had arm tattoos. Younger than this guy. Weird coincidence.

The only game he was truly enjoying, you could see the genuine enjoyment, was when he started playing WWE Champions on stream. He was animated, knowledgeable, energetic even. Every other game he just sits there, trying (and sometimes failing) not to fall asleep.

A few detractors who also play WWEC said that his blabber—and it truly seemed like a stream of knowledge he would convey while he played—about the game was mostly wrong. Obviously they could be lying to be petty but it’s funnier to think Phil doesn’t understand the game he spends tens of thousands per year on.

I've never played but I'd assume with any pay to win game, if you're a whale, you probably aren't required to develop much knowledge or skill. I'd wager the best and most knowledgeable players are the ones that can't just shell out money on the daily.

Highlight for me were accusing him of harbouring Derich as Pandalee proves he’s a dirty old man with a similar taste for young girls as well as comparing their working with him to when John Cena let’s the disabled kid hold the WWE championship.

Go watch the dent sea scrolls. Phil comments about chasing 14 year old girls at the mall to try and smash and this was back in his 20's either on SRK or his own forums, so him liking them under the age of consent isn't exactly ground breaking.
