god i hate these types of "retellings"
"haha what if this fairytale is actually an allegory for uhh.... *checks list* drugs!" "what else?" "sex" "..." "violence also" "wasn't the last fairytale you retold also an allegory for drugs, sex and violence?" "that was shrooms, now it's cocaine!"
riveting, talk about no imagination
finalize it by claiming it's a statement about society and you got assholes fellating it for days just for showing up and doing the mandated edgy thing

you CAN retell a classic childrens' tale with mature topics, but that's just one ingredient, it shouldn't be the most interesting factor
if "tinkerbell SAYS 'FUCK'!" is your selling point, well... it got old after the first time she said 'fuck' and i've got 40 more minutes to go, what else?
I can't imagine trying to learn with thousands of people bustling around me, babies crying, music blaring, parades and honking street cars and horses going by.
to be fair, look at them
they're not learning anything
those kids look to be about 10 and she's reading them a picture book

there are these types of women who make average people think homeschooling is inherently a bad thing because THEY cannot teach, yet they alone insist on doing all the teaching, with absolutely no materials nor a reference for when their kids can start comprehending more advanced mathematics and have grown out of the "let's learn the colors of the rainbow" stage of education

"Dark fairytale reimagining" had not been creative since it started existing. It just hits author-based tales now.
There absolutely is some creepypasta-tier sludge out there (The Mouse Trap is a great example) and I get that horror is generally considered a "lesser" genre, but there's some genuinely good shit out there, shit that goes deeper than "beloved character but evil".

You alright, my dude? You missed the mark on... just about everything.

I've been falling down the rabbit hole of horror adaptations of Disney properties that have lapsed into public domain. There are a few gems in there.
Not to get technical, but the concepts of Snow White, Cinderella, and Pinnochio are not Disney properties. They’re fairy tales written hundreds of years ago and thus could never be copyrighted from the standpoint of characters and plot. Now, if you wanted to make a Cinderella movie with talking and singing mice, you might have a problem — but reinventing Cinderella never needed any public domain clearance.

Similarly, public domain is 100 years. The Disney Snow White movie is from the late 1930s and Cinderella is from the 1950s. Neither are public domain.

Winnie the Pooh is an invention by the author A.A. Milne, and those books are over 100 years old, hence the ability to make that horror Winnie the Pooh stuff.

It’s nice to find these things amusing, but make sure you understand what’s happening.

I know those aren't Disney specific properties, but Disney wouldn't be Disney without them. Like it or not, those stories are now tied to the Disney brand and most people only know of those iterations. Same goes for Marvel. Disney's whole shtick is getting its name slapped on existing stories/properties. It's like a virus - unable to reproduce without a host to infect.

Not by me

It physically cannot get "deep" if it begins and ends at "lmao, I corrupted Disney". You would not watch any of these things if they were just takes on public domain fairy-tales, you specifically took interest in the secondary slop based on Disney.

elaborate

i cant help but get the feeling some people on here just get emotional and petty when someone negrates them
I'd rather not derail this thread about emotionally stunted consoomers. I just wanted to briefly sperg about the piss take that is the TCU, which I think would be fun to see said consoomers' reaction to.

I ignored these movies for the longest time because of how fatigued I am with seeing Disney everywhere and I'm not big on fairy tales/period pieces. Hell, I never would've watched The Ugly Stepsister if I knew it was a retelling of Cinderella. As for the other movies, I just needed something to watch while using the treadmill and XPrime recommended them. Simple as.

Again, I don't want to derail the thread. I'm here to point and laugh at people who make a corporate entity their entire personality
I'm genuinely wondering how long it will be before Disney starts remaking the MCU movies. The first film in the franchise, Iron Man, came out in 2008. The films being remade by Disney are becoming increasingly recent, with the original Lilo & Stitch being released in 2002. We've got other studios remaking even more recent projects, like How to Train Your Dragon, which was released in 2010. Iirc, the MCU has entered its multiverse era, which leaves a lot of room for a lot of butterfly effect bullshit.

It genuinely baffles me that Disney sees these rapidly diminishing returns and keeps doubling down. Zealous consoomers can only carry them so far. I'm extremely skeptical of Snow White's reported budget of $240-270 million. With all the reshoots/having to push the premier back an entire year to reign in Rachel Zegler, I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to half a billion. It made $205.7 million at the box office. Theaters take about half of the ticket price, so we're looking at less than $103 million.

Like I've said before, Disney isn't using these fanatics to their full potential. Disney adults are like blank checks. Disney would do better to make several cheaper movies rather than one stupidly expensive one.

Woman may not visit Disney after allegedly leaving nail marks on teen for parade view

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (WKRC) - A judge said a woman may not visit any Disney properties after she allegedly injured a teenager to get a better view of a parade.

According to PEOPLE, citing the Orange County Sheriff's Office, 51-year-old Martha Lucia Zapata-Echeverri of Spain was taken into custody in Bay Lake, Florida on Monday after she allegedly "grabbed" a 17-year-old girl and pulled her to the side.

In an affidavit obtained by the publication, authorities said deputies responded to an "altercation" at around 9:40 p.m. and separated the two parties involved.

The teen told deputies on the scene that she "was standing on the sidewalk of "Main Street" at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, near "Cinderella's Castle," waiting for a parade to begin when Zapata-Echeverri allegedly “put her hand on [the teen] ‘trying to make space’ and [the teen] asked the suspect not to touch her in Spanish," PEOPLE reported.

Zapata-Echeverri allegedly “grabbed [the teen] by the arm and pulled her to the side, causing a bruise and abrasion on her right arm," per the publication.

According to PEOPLE, the suspect, a Colombia native who currently resides in Spain, told authorities that she was following her daughter to get to the front of the crowd to watch the parade and accused the teen of pushing into her, and telling her it was "her spot."

The affidavit reviewed by the publication reportedly states that the teen had "nail marks" on her arm, with the suspect being unable to produce a clear explanation as to how the girl received the injuries.

PEOPLE, citing authorities, reported that the teenage girl was the only individual who sustained an injury during the incident.

“Martha knowingly and willfully touched [the teen]. Martha committed the intentional act of grabbing or pushing which was reasonable to cause some type of injury,” the affidavit obtained by the publication states, also noting that the teen sustained "a small abrasion and bruise" on her arm.

WESH reported that Zapata-Echeverri had her bond reduced to $2,500, and that a judge said the suspect may not return to any Disney property.

Zapata-Echeverri's attorney said she was scheduled to fly home to Spain on Wednesday, per PEOPLE.

Is she talking about one of those character chatbots or does she just not take her meds and genuinely believes a toy is talking to her? Not sure which is worse tbh.
if she's talking about an AI chatbot then this is just a sad display of human corrosion
but somehow if she's actually just talking to a Woody doll with a pull string
that makes it kinda funny and almost better in a way

Scary thing is, there are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of bots out there for every Disney character, no matter how minor. After Final Destination: Bloodlines came out, someone posted a screenshot on reddit showing just a handful of the bots that were made for Erik Campbell within a few weeks. Take a Disney movie that's 30 years old and there's probably one for every frame in every second of film he's appeared in.

That's got to be a shitpost. Not to make assumptions but bluesky users tend to be anti-AI, right? They're probably just taking the piss out of people who use chatbots (I am choosing to believe this in part to preserve my hope for the future)

I'm sorry for imposing its existence on your brain.

whichever nonsense correlation you learned and created in your head which is probably based on political notions is wrong
i know what you're thinking, i know what pattern you're following, but that pattern is false
AI is the bugman's dream, it has no political or ideological siding, the only ideology that doesn't mesh with it is one that values art, effort, skill and merit
it's not a "blue side vs red side" issue, it's a "human being with a soul vs NPC" issue

It's ok I already know about those communities, I was mostly joking. It was just so obviously not genuine Woody thirst.

But here, I'll do you one better; visit r/DarkDisneyAI for the visual side of things. Didn't see Woody but AI puh abounds there.
temporary.webp This is very tame for this sub, the majority of it is princesses playing with themselves and such.

I was very unimpressed at first but ngl that's decent amounts of ambition there
It's just cool to see someone having fun with these stories rather than "updating" them for the fabled modern audience. The idea that Disney classics need to be updated when most of the stories they're based on are centuries old and still relevant.
