this really is an infuriating watch. i get the idea of fighting for your life and your freedom by denying everything, but he's so narcissistic that he just can't resist the compulsion to try and make his story "instructive" in the worst possible ways. it's not about a fall from grace, the struggles of addiction, "nearly losing it all" and a born-again-12-stepper-come-to-jesus posterboy for recovery, which would be its own form of insufferable but would actually be a good thing for everybody involved. rather, it's about "government overreach" and maliciousness. i don't see a principled libertarian. i see a petulant, spoiled child who still can't accept that his actions have consequences.

It wouldn't be surprising if all the joking around about the latter is just another case of the sorts of basic-bitch "decoy" and "batch denial" tactics that he ranted about in that telling January 7th diary post projecting onto Aaron exactly how Nick himself approaches his own PR challenges, in this case by making the vast majority of that cupboard's contents sound so ridiculous that any upcoming revelations about the more disturbing remainder won't be taken seriously.
