Were 20 year olds in the 90/early 2000s this autistic about "adult themes" in cartoons? I wonder if there's some loon out there who made a video/essay about the political and feminist commentary of Rugrats or Tiny Toons.

I think it was less that and more that you had people on Usenet groups pointing out all the adult humor that went over the heads of kids (i.e. the infamous "Fingerprints" moment from Animaniacs) at the time.

Lauren Zuke is much more narcissistic and embarrassing than I could have ever imagined.

If that's indeed her, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's due for her own thread soon.

There was an episode where Phil and Chuckie dress as girls to get cookies from two boys.

Someone tried to analyze it and make it into a "Chuckie and Phil are closeted trans kids" and that the two boys who were mortified when they learned what was under the skirt were transphobic.

I don't see the problem with adult humor in kids shows, if you do it right. Like that one suicidal guard in Spongebob.

No child got that joke.

Those are babies. They're suggesting babies are trans.

It just goes to show that all their "uwu diversity representation" is just a creepy sexual fetish they have that they try to mask off as being "enlightened". Seriously, fuck these people :alog:

If that really is Lauren, that's one sure way to never be hired by anyone again.

Also, your first mistake in trying to put positive LGBT+ stuff in media is by calling it "queer" (I'm sure the LGBT fans who have legitimately been abused just LOVE seeing one of their role models throw around a slur like that), just saying.

The animation industry is pretty small, and word travels pretty quick. Especially if you have a penchant for shooting your mouth off. Look at what happened to Giancarlo Volpe: after 'Green Lantern: TAS' (which he was one of the head producers on) was cancelled back in 2013, he went on a complete tear on Cartoon Network. He was rendered unhireable for a few good years (going to fuck off at Riot Games for a while) and he's only now gotten enough good will back that he's working on Star vs. Forces of Evil now (in addition to his own webcomic).

The most infamous example of this is John Krickfaluci, though while he's found odd jobs and a Kickstarter scam, his career has never truly recovered. And on the subject of legends, Don Bluth is also allegedly difficult to work with because he prefers to have complete creative control. Just compare movies like 'Land Before Time' and 'American Tail' (which Steven Spielberg oversaw and had input on) as opposed to 'Pebble & the Penguin' and 'Rock-a-Doodle'. But even then, he still has managed to get some stuff made even after being proven he's difficult to work with.

Zuke, however, pretty much took the nuclear option to whatever career she might have had going for her, especially if these blog entries are hers. If this does become attached to her real name, I can guarantee even an indie studio worth their salt would be reluctant to hire her, especially if this is how she reacts to her supervisors/bosses giving her direction and telling her "No, you can't do this".

I wonder if this happened with anyone else. I thought Steven was a pre-teen when I first started watching the show, given how he looks and acts. I was surprised that he's fourteen.

If I was hiring someone to work on my show, I wouldn't go for the person who spazzed out all over their blog over a 'ship.

While I know nothing about her working conditions or the studio at large, why on earth would you put this stuff on a public blog? At the very least make sure your thoughts are coherent and you have evidence if you're trying to legitimately call out a company for overworking you.

Hopefully this is not Zuke because otherwise this is the dumbest thing to do.

OTOH publicly complaining about your employer overworking you seems like a fairly effective way of making them stop employing you entirely.

Well I was coming from a different angle; almost every branch in the entertainment media industry has long had problems with treating employees fairly (refusing to give benefits, breaks, paying overtime, etc). And given that the jobs are so highly competitive, keeping your complaints internal can just be a way to get yourself fired and have another sucker take your place and keep the cycle going.

So I'm not against using social media to create pressure on companies that you wouldn't be able to as a single person. Just that they should be done in an effective manor rather than vagueblogging on your emo side blog.

I swear this cartoon is entrenched in stupid drama at a fundamental level.

Without getting into spergy territory, this is the central focus of one episode.

This rabbit hole just got a lot more interesting now. /sug/ found what is allegedly Lauren Zuke's private blog, and well... it gets interesting, if not exceptional.

The tl;dr: Some have speculated that Rebecca or someone told her 'No' about pushing her ship (Lapis/Peridot) and then that set Zuke off on this tear, and she's calling someone (Rebecca or another person) an abusive narcissist. No one is 100% sure if this is really her, but the signs seem to point to it being her.

I don't know if this or "eggnant" is my favorite in this batch.

Because there are hints she's into oviposition.

Is every single person who makes this show pretty much like the fans of it? I've heard of "going native" and acting more like your fans, but the only things that seems to separate the average SU fan from the average SU staff member is a minute bit of artistic talent and a general idea of a career.

Been a long time since I followed the Crewniverse, but I thought Matt Burnett was all right when I did. He would give flippant answers in regards to fan theories and was insistent that SU was a show for all demographics, not just special snowflakes. iirc this set of tweets is from early 2015:

That said, he had his SJW moments and joined his colleagues in going dark on social media. I have no idea what he's up to now.
