Were cryptofascists an actual thing? Despite what the internet says to my knowledge Fascists do show up in jack boots with banners.

If I remember right a "crypto-fascist" is someone who is implied to secretly support fascism. It seems to be something that is primarily used as insult fodder and little else.

The Russian government blocked all attempts of Nikolas and Wilhelm to form an alliance. Britain have been allying with the French due to the efforts of the british government under Edwards reign. It wasn't the Germans fault that the British were so keen on destroying their empire that they would rater ally themselves with France and Russia.
Sure Germany isn't entierly blameless, but most things were out of her control.

Not really when you realize their alliance is only defensive, It's not an equal alliance like say the alliance between France and England in WW1 or 2. Portugal wanted more than they were ever going to get and Britain told them to go fuck themselves, probably because Britain was still in the weird mindset of preserving the balance of power and a strong Portugal was not something it was interested in.

Personally, I think of Rand as an anti-Marx.

I always figured Adam Smith was right wing Karl Marx instead of her.

Smith was perhaps the first economist and mostly was concerned about economics. Rand and Marx were more all encompassing philosophers. Comparing Smith to Marx is a huge insult to Smith. Smith was a serious researcher who wrote a scientific treatise carefully observing and collating macroeconomic trends and predicting and laying the theoretical foundations for the free market which has carried the world to the state it is in now. Marx on the other hand wrote a fever dream based on and supported by nothing until it was proven to be nonsense after decades of failed bloody attempts to put it into practice.

Adam Smith is much more respected in the world of economics and philosophy than Marx or Rand is. Then again, Marx's ideas actually had an impact on history unlike Rand.

Yeah its kind of funny how Rand has been largely ignored while so many other wacky ideas and philosophies are entertained in the ivory tower. Like whats the difference? Marx's theories are complete bunk too that he just vomited out with no real empirical testing. These guys constantly whine about women being overlooked in history yet one of the clearest examples they continue to have no problem with.
