Something people miss. Sean touched on it. There are 2 other simultaneous investigations ongoing. Or rather 1 alternate investigation that could land in 2 different court paths (or both). CPS is involved. Their investigation into child neglect will almost certainly be a matter before the Juvenile and Family Court. And Nick and Kayla have almost no options there except "Shut the Fuck Up, Rehab, and do whatever the Fuck CPS says". This is just to have a hope of ever seeing the kids again.

Depending on what CPS finds, if they finding anything that exceeds basic neglect, another whole set of Criminal Charges may be incoming. Like heaven forbid one of the kids ate one of Kayla's special gummies. Did either parent have a tendency to violence and actually hit the kids? The judge needed to sign the warrant wasn’t available on Memorial Day. After taking the initial report and confirming the statements of the witnesses it was already the weekend so the police had to wait for the judge to return. That seems more likely to explain the 6 day wait than the conspiratorial ravings of a cokehead allergic to accountability.

This is me being pedantic but this happens way before puberty. That is the most outcome. This might be cope and naive on my end, but I (want to) believe Kayla is either already in rehab or finding one as we speak, at minimum she was advised to take a plea and go ahead to go to rehab so she can prove she is being proactive.

Most mothers hit rock bottom when their children are taken away. It does not excuse what has happened. At fucking all, she did coke, K, and whatever else, but I hope and pray one of them gets their fucking act together for the sake of the children, and it's sure as hell NOT going to be Nick.
