There are several reasons for a healthy adult to use alcohol:
- If you use alcohol for its actual purpose and don't get drunk, but straddle the tipsy line, it's a very effective social lubricant. I'm a dipshit social retard who's too quiet for his own good, exhausted by social interactions, and a drink or two is enough to grease the wheels such that I actually enjoy being around people I don't know very well.
- Alcohol is legitimately tasty. Before the advent of refrigeration, your choice was water, fresh fruit juice when the fruit was in season and if you had plenty, or milk. Fermented fruit juice has a longer shelf life (potentially indefinitely) and tastes more interesting than just sweet juice. Spirits are similar in that well made spirits have interesting flavors that can range in wildly different directions.

Rum is typically pretty low quality (in terms of the manufacturing process) compared to whiskey so that checks out. Though the upside to rum is you can get the good stuff for a lot cheaper if you know what to buy. I still prefer whiskey to most other things myself.

My main use of alcohol is/was as a muscle relaxant. I have a muscle in my upper back that I shredded in middle school and sometimes it just seizes up to the point I have to manually breathe because I'm in so much pain. One or two drinks makes it give up. Thankfully it's not something that happens often, at least not to the point where it requires that level of intervention. If it did I'd definitely actually get it looked at, I could easily see it becoming a crutch if it was a daily thing, and if it was even a weekly thing I'd probably start having a drink or two every night preemptively

I don't think it's happened at all since I started (trying to) do pullups last year, I actually figured out how to manually flex/release it at some point that which helps stretch it out. I noticed it was 'throbbing' without hurting while laying down after a workout and was able to tap into that. Hopefully I was able to break up/stretch out the scar tissue or whatever and it'll never happen again
