So...it's more like bloodletting than a donation, isn't it?It’s possible that the blood isn’t actually going to be donated.
There are conditions (like hemochromatosis or polycythemia) that are treated by removing about 1/2 liter of blood on a regular basis.
There’s absolutely no guarantee that this blood will be eligible for donation. But it’s the same procedure as donation… just with the goal of preventing the patient from having a stroke because of excess red blood cells/hemoglobin, or suffering liver/kidney/organ failure because the elevated iron levels are toxic.
