President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Russiaboos make many claims and jack off to how wonderful and based Russia is.

They don't want to accept the fact that it's a poor country full of sodomy and despair, with a military whose equipment that isn't up to par with China, let alone America.
All PRC military aircraft are bad rip offs of Russian and American equipment. The J-15, a copy of the SU-33 kept going on fire. They might make SU-57 copies (Chengdu J-20 I think) with decent copies of the Western origin avionics and the flight characteristics might be fine, but the engines are a joke. China and Russia are school yard bullies not great or even medium scale powers, just local bullies and international bribers.

45'000 Shells a day. Russian artillery barrels are probably run down enough to where the shells will start exploding inside the barrel soon. Accuracy of ANY kind is toast.

You can have all the ammo in the world, good luck shooting it out of the same couple of guns without critical failures, russian maintenance must be working 24/7 for that shit to barely function and even then, looking at fields of craters it appears their guns have fuck all accuracy left in them.

TL;DR They'll run out of functional guns before they run out of ammo at that rate of fire is what I'm saying.
of all the retard copes ive seen about this war, "their artillery barrels will wear out from overuse" is the dumbest.
people were able to keep up massive scale artillery warfare for 4 fucking years in the first world war, all with 1910s technology. the russians guns will not be worn out anytime soon.

Apparently the Russians just lost another general and around a dozen important officers.

Not again Russia bros!

Time to start tying Russian generals to your tanks, they are good at absorbing incoming fire.

Your account name is apt. Armies have always had to deal with wear and malfunction on artillery pieces. These were maintained and repaired as needed. Russia can barely make burger crusts or nails, so I must doubt whether they have the means to renew, repair or replace worn artillery pieces. Their only capability is making shells in state arsenals. Anything mechanical suffers wear and tear and needs servicing.

russian manufacturing having problems with high precision guided munitions is one thing, but making and maintaining something as simple and basic as artillery barrels is well within their ability

Artillery is not 'simple or basic.' Metal used to fire explosive shells at great pressure will certainly wear out and it is not clear Russia has the capability to sufficiently renew and replace the fatigued metal, electronics (usually French and even PRC rip off merchants heed US sanctions) and hydraulics. Short of, and even with, a back channel to someone with stocks of parts, which are substantially made overseas, these pieces are being run well beyond any expected or bearable parameters. I suspect UA need not overuse their HIMAR and equivalent 'game changer' stocks with artillery pieces failing without parts. Russia cannot even make the ignition and brakes for a Ural Dalesmen so I press x to doubt with artillery pieces.

I'm sure the Russians can make rifled barrels, it's not too technically difficult and the tooling is in house. The issue is if they are willing to take guns offline for depot level maintenance.

Rogozin has had a bit of assplosion on social media
I gotta say I am impressed that they still try to play the mental gymnastics of "western governments give weapons to Ukraine because they want as many Ukrainians dead as possible"
It's such a shitty propaganda spin, and noone will ever buy it, yet they keep going at it

Lol.

FYI, for any vatniks harping on about this, is it any surprise Ukraine is going to drift closer to western values in general as a result of this whole war? The alternative to legal gay shit is Russia wiping the country off the face of the planet. Unsurprisingly, people start seeing gay shit as the better option! Maybe if Russia wasn't so hellbent on invading and annexing Ukraine, they wouldn't be so eager to adopt this shit in the first place.

Gay marriage is illegal in in Ukraine if you look at the poles the vast majority of ukrainians oppose homosexuality they forgot to show the part where most of those people get their face caved in by the Ukrainian ultra-nationalist and the police look the other way

A lot of people also seem to missing the fact that that story doesn't really say anything about whether or not the government will actually even do it. It's literally just a case of "if this official petition gets x amount of signatures you get an official government response", just like how the US government was forced to respond to that meme White House petition about building a Death Star.

there is a whole series of these, someone's hobby I guess (and a few telegarm channels) to paste dead RFs social media ironic posts. It does reflect general mindset of these idiots who bought the propaganda about them being the toughest 2nd army in the world.

It's also comical to see mongoloids pretending to be slavs, boy-officers talking tough and spergs about occupation of Europe and kicking American ass.

Remember boy, our squad isn't going to take ukrop prisoners. We spit on "customs of war' If we take anyone a prisoner, it's for short period of time.

Putin does it right. Pindos [americans] need to bend over. We don't fight with ukrainians, we fight with America on ukrainian territory! We'll fuck yankees and their servants.

Euro-homos, learn Russian and get ready for your new masters!

I personally don't think that state should decide who is married or not, but for legal reasons, if breeders are paying the marriage tax, I don't see why homos skate free.

I also don't see it as a snub on which country is the more based. Muscovites never consider homosexuality or pedophilia or zoophilia a thing because they were always accepted along side ortho church and weren't even a big deal. Fucking something unusual was a subject of boast at a gathering.

You don't have to take my word for it, you can read notes from many Western travelers who have gone to kingdom of Muscovia and detailed their experience, like George Turberville, an Englishman who visited them in 16th century:

They have fat bellies, drink vast amounts, have greasy wives smoked tawny by the stove fire, and worst of all, lead a bowgards life preferring a boy within his bed to his greasy wife.

Like I posted before, from memoirs about St. Pete's just before the coup in 1917, you could find every kind of perversion thriving and casual homosexual sex being an acceptable or even preferred alternative to hetero sex. Not only that, there is a specifically Russian perversion of father/head of household fucking his daughters in law. A practice so wide spread, there are volumes written on it.

And I also wrote about practice of homo sex in Tsarist army, mostly between soldiers, but also between officers and soldiers. Something that's live and well today.

The fundamental issue is that northern tribes have lagged in societal development. While Greeks were working out Geometry and Mathematics, proto-Moscovians, as Herodotus called them Androphagi (man eaters/ cannibals) and turk tribes called them quessabs (butchers). So by 15-16th century, Euros were building cathedrals and Muscovites still fucking domesticated animals despite a form of religion being present there, they still lack in development as a culture. Russian church just replace pagan gods, but people still haven't grasped christianity.

Artillery is not 'simple or basic.'
it's a big steel tube, made to more or less tight specifications, with added rifling on the inside. it's as simple and basic as military hardware gets.
sure if you want to make state of the art high tech artillery systems like german panzerhaubitzen you'll need a fuckton of auxiliary systems to go along with the gun itself, but if you're just making plain old field guns you really just need basic heavy industry capable of working with steel, no fancy foreign tech needed.

Speaking of which, this is the colonel, commander of the 20th motorized division, born in Volgograd, Russia (but has Ukrainian surname - "sparrow")

Europe and USA have suddenly realized that VVP stands for "you are all fucked"

According to RF, colonel was identified by DNA remains after HIMARS strike on his command post, on July 11th.
