I was watching a movie called My Dinner with Andre, about two playwrights reconnecting after years apart. At one point in the discussion, they mention that people are completely blind to reality and modern plays only serve to exacerbate that blindness (a grim warning, given that this movie was made in 1980.) It occurred to me that Bob and company match this description to a T. They have no idea about reality, except some image in their head of How Things Ought To Be, and the movies/books/products they consume only serve to reinforce their delusions; when reality inevitably intrudes, they lose their collective minds.
(As an aside, you can watch the full movie
here. It's a movie you ought to see at least once in your life. Unless you're Bob, in which case it may be a bit too complicated for you.)
