/old man rant

There were no laptops (for the most part), there was no high speed internet, there certainly was no faggotbook or Sphincter (sorry--twitter) let alone Chink-Tok. There was no porn except in magazines (boo-ah) and I am not making this up when I say that it wasn't uncommon for us to lose 5 or 6 (for girls) or even 10 pounds (for a guy) over one weekend--just fucking, eating, drinking, and sleeping, and then fucking fucking fucking. If anyone would have suggested we should interrupt that process so we could go try and upload something on a computer that Jack Dorsey or Mark Faggotberg or General Tso Tik-Tok or whomever would approve of--well--you can imagine.

/old man rant.
This whole rant reminds me of why the aids epidemic started in the 80s

Eh, it's complicated. There are plenty of different views on it - some people call it a crime against humanity and a guy I know will swear up and down that the whole thing was a Freemasonic plot to destroy Catholicism in Japan, if that gives you any indication about how strongly some people feel about it.

My take on it is that it was a case of using evil to do good. While civilians in Nagasaki and Hiroshima would definitely have died if we launched a ground invasion, that doesn't make it morally acceptable to kill those civilians by another method. This is, like it or not, a problem with warfare; it's almost impossible to wage war today without committing some sort of moral evil, but countries still need to be able to defend themselves.

The Rittenhouse trial is going on and it looks like common sense will prevail and Kenosha Kyle will be found not guilty. What does the BBC put on its front page?

A propaganda piece about "racist killers" that paints the BLM organisation as a morally good thing and calls Kyle a racist.

Let me remind you that if you're a Britbong and own a television, you can be sent to jail for not paying for this propaganda. There's a reason I think about emigrating every day.
Please, tell me most of the people think the BBC is shit. If not, lord almighty have mercy.

You're not gonna get a first-hand answer to any of that here.

And the reasons are multiple. Cultural drivers, biological factors (microplastics, processed food, etc), economic factors (men make less money, industries vanishing), political influence and possibly some broad concepts of perceived-overpopulation in finite societies with limited roles.

Ironically, all of that will have been kick-started during your peak years. Which isn't a "gotcha" or anything - I'm an old fuck too - but it's pointless for anyone to distance themselves from the current day nonsense.

As a principle, if you want to know how the future will go, you go back 20-30 years and try to find early signals that would lead to and indicate later developments. Like how most of the calculations and technology that took America to the moon in the 1960s were all largely worked out back in the 1920s.

Please, tell me most of the people think the BBC is shit. If not, lord almighty have mercy.

Mercifully, it seems to be something that almost everyone hates now. The right think it's left-leaning, the left thinks it's right-leaning.

As soon as David Attenborough dies they really should just set fire to the place.

You’re right that bombing a city isn’t morally superior to a ground invasion, we have to remember that the question wasn't just about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The US was prepared to stage a full-scale invasion of the Japanese mainland and projected massive casualties on both sides, civilian and military, due to the “no surrender” sentiment seen throughout the Pacific Campaign. This wasn't a question about how best to kill two cities, it was a question about killing two cities or wiping out a country. And honestly, dropping the sun on two moderate-value cities seems better than reducing all of Japan to rubble.

Right-wingers do, liberals love it, and leftists think that it's some evil right-wing propaganda station.

Very insightful Fish thanks for the reply.

I would personally define a "liberal" as the grown-up version of a leftist. Plenty of pie-in-the-sky beliefs and dreams, but more grounded in what's actually feasible. Plus they usually have their own money, not just living off of their parents' dime, like your average leftist. I guess what I'm saying is they're the more respectable side of the left, though they're still exceptionally stupid

Theyre all beside themselves about an insurrection, but i read somewhere yesterday that we are about to face swarms of locusts who refuse to introduce themselves with their pronouns.

After the Batan death march the Japs got everything that was coming to them. They didn't have any problem with killing civvies throughout the war.

Thomas Hartmann wrote an article on Daily Kos regarding how authoritarian coups are gradual then sudden.

Here's a snippet:

I've never heard of him before, but it looks like I wasn't missing anything. Like many so-called progressives these days, he's either in denial, delusional, lacking self-awareness, or all of the above concerning how his politics are closer to authoritarianism than he cares to admit.

Thom Hartmann used to be the most popular "left-wing/progressive/etc." radio host in America by ratings. (Making him a multi-millionaire in the process.) Kinda sad if he's been reduced to posting on the corpse of the Daily Kos and similar.

Though he does seem to be fairly active on Twitter retweeting stupid things:
