Sources said the Secret Service spotted a suspicious individual on the Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach, and opened fire when agents saw what appeared to be the barrel of a gun.
It’s not clear whether the man was on the course or near it.

The West Palm Beach course is about five miles inland from Mar-a-Lago, which Trump dubbed the “Winter White House.”
The Secret Service — which came under widespread criticism following the July assassination attempt — wrote on X that it was investigating a “protective incident” involving the former president that occurred shortly before 2 p.m.
The agency said it’s coordinating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office on the investigation.
Initial reports suggested two people were firing at each other. However, sources said investigators now believe the Secret Service agent was the only shooter.
The man’s motives are not yet known. He was arrested by Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies.
The White House issued a statement soon after the incident: “The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team.”

A trans-identified male property manager from Oklahoma, who began transitioning to a woman in prison, admitted to having previously decapitated a friend while still living in Oklahoma. Alex Ray Scott, 28, was in a New York court Monday to plead guilty to the murder of Kenneth Savinski, 64.
Scott ran from Oklahoma in 2019 after being accused of molesting a five-year-old boy – but before leaving, he dismembered Robin Skocdopole, 63, with a chainsaw. The shocking news – which had not been mentioned at the trial – came out as Scott took the stand and described in detail the killing of Savinski, an antique dealer. Scott described using a plate, kitchen knife and “maybe a pen” to commit the January 2020 murder, the Daily Mail reported.
According to an FBI news release, in 2023, “Scott agreed to take the FBI to the last known location of Skocdopole's head. Unfortunately, when Scott took FBI to the location, no additional remains were found.”
Scott became an object of interest to Manhattan police after walking into a station in Jan. 2020 with blood-covered clothing and telling officers, “I think I may have killed someone last night.” Police understood the confession because they had already discovered the corpse of an upper-rung antiques dealer in his Upper East Side apartment.
Savinsky met Scott on a dating site and got more than he bargained for when Scott left him with a slashed throat and cuts to the head after their first encounter. Scott was sighted by other residents leaving the apartment building with Savinski’s black jacket and with a wad of bills.
Scott allegedly hadn’t stolen enough so then decided to use the dead man’s credit cards to get a hotel in New Jersey. The next morning, Scott awoke in the hotel room with blood-soaked clothing but supposedly remembering little of what had transpired the night before.
Scott possessed five credit cards after being searched by police. One of these belonged to Savinski and another to Skocdopole. Scott told police of living in Skocdopole’s home in Broken Arrow but when the address was called, there was no answer. The Broken Arrow Police Department decided to investigate with a search warrant in February 2020. They found the house stripped bare but with blood stains on the walls and floor.
It would take three months for police to find pieces of Skocdopole’s body in a creek near the house. A medical examiner noted that both a chainsaw and hand saw had been utilized to cut up the body. At that time, Scott had been charged with Savinski’s murder and was waiting for the trial to start from the Rikers Island detention center detachment used for adult females and adolescents. Scott had, by that time, begun transitioning.
In July 2019 Scott was charged in Oklahoma with forcing a co-worker's five-year-old son to have oral sex.
In May 2023, Scott admitted to murdering Skocdopole in Oklahoma and took police on a pointless search for the deceased man’s decapitated head. In May of 2024, a US District judge sentenced Scott to 45 years for the Second Degree Murder in Indian Country of Skocdopole.
Scott could get another 22 years in a New York prison as part of a plea deal but would go back to Oklahoma afterwards to serve out the sentence there.

Stansfield (born December 1962, Camberwell, London, England) is a 62-year-old British man best known by his web handle "smartschoolboy9," where he posted a variety of disturbing and borderline pedophilic content fetishizing schoolchildren. He was also known for dressing up himself in a school uniform, with white makeup and big lips (which he refers to as his "schoolface"), as well as his fetishistic fixation on girls who wear patent leather high-heeled boots. David W. (Walter?) Stansfield was born in December 1962 to John Jacob Stansfield and his wife Ilse (née Neebe) in the south London neighborhood of Camberwell. Both his parents were immigrants; John Jacob was black and from South Africa, while Ilse was white and from Germany. He grew up in the London borough of Lambeth with an elder brother named John and a younger sister named Ingrid. As a child, he and his family attended a branch of the Worldwide Church of God, a fundamentalist, evangelical, and Sabbatarian church founded by American preacher Herbert W. Armstrong in the 1930s. While his siblings have since drifted away, David still seems to be religious and still occasionally posts about Scripture; he continued to actively participate in the WCG (and its successor, the United Church of God) well into the 2000s.
From 1974 to 1979, David attended Stockwell Manor School (later renamed to Stockwell Park High School, then to Platanos College) in Stockwell, London. David remembers his time at school fondly, with two major exceptions. The first was that he had a crush on a girl in primary school a year or two younger than him named Veronica Dharmpaul, who suddenly stopped talking to him after he went to secondary school. He blamed his sister Ingrid for this, convinced that she lied and told the girl that David was no longer interested in her. Another incident, which he describes as traumatic, was when he was singled out in class and publicly berated by a teacher or headmaster for unclear reasons. Afterwards, his grades slipped, and he wished to transfer to another school such as Beaufoy Boys' School in Lambeth or Dunraven School in Streatham. Interestingly enough, one of the teachers at Stockwell back then was Jeff Morrell, a convicted nonce whose reputation David occasionally defends online. There is no evidence that David went to a university or had any tertiary schooling.
From the spring of 1980 to autumn 1984, David lived with his brother John in Flat 88 of Kerrin Point, a public housing tower in Kennington, London. His residence afterwards is unknown, but it's likely he lived in Streatham, where his mother worked. In 1989, his parents had a falling out and separated; while David sided with his mother Ilse, his sister Ingrid sided with their father John. In 1994, David sent a letter to the editor of the Evening Standard (talking about, of course, school uniforms) where he lists his address as Ashlake Road, Streatham. This letter was the first known time that he pretended to be a kid in media, and the first time he used the pseudonym "David Alter." He also briefly lived in Moorfoot, a neighborhood in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, from April to November of 1996.
None of them have played a major role in David's life for the last thirty years, but for the sake of posterity:
David's father John Jacob Stansfield (born Johannes Jakobus Stansfield) was born on March 15, 1933 in Cape Town, South Africa to Johannes Jakobus Stansfield and his wife Doris. Although his exact ethnic background is unknown, it's clear from photographs he was black or mixed-race. He immigrated to the UK as a small child, living in Lancashire and Leicestershire, before moving to London. He met Ilse Neebe in the 1950s, and married her in London in 1958. They had four children, one of whom, Oscar, was stillborn or died in infancy. Not much is known about John's life besides him being a member of the WCG congregation in the 1980s. In 1989, he and his wife Ilse had the aforementioned falling out and they lived separately ever since. There's no sign that they ever formally divorced. In 1994, he formed a company (presumably a travel agency or import/export business) called Afro Continental UK Limited that he ran out of his home, a public housing flat in Stockwell, London. He died in London in 2006.
David's mother Ilse Stansfield (née Neebe) was born circa 1934 to Johannes J. and Sophie Neebe (née Schrader) in Adelebsen, Province of Hanover, Germany. It's unclear whether she moved to the UK before or after World War II, but we know that by the 1950s, she was living in London, where she met and married John. There isn't much known about her life in the 1970s and 80s either, except that she worked in Streatham in the 70s. In the early 1990s, after her falling out with John, she moved to Eastbourne in East Sussex, and has been living in the Redman King House, a retirement home there, since at least 2005. She is still alive as of 2016.
David's brother John Gareth Stansfield was born in March 1961 in Camberwell. Like his younger brother, he too attended Stockwell Manor School from ~1972 to 1977. From 1980 to 1984, he lived with David in Kerrin Point. He was possibly involved with David in some musical capacity, like performing in a band or in a church choir. It fell apart in the early 1980s, when John stopped participating in the WCG and David quit playing out of protest; he accused John of getting involved in "questionable occult activities". Allegedly, David was convinced that they could've had a record deal and gotten big if it wasn't for John. John also got married and moved to Stratford, London in the 1980s; his sister Ingrid lived with him for a time. John also has a daughter, who was involved in some sort of new age or occult stuff, which David cites as proof that John is a godless heathen and terrible father. John currently lives in Romford and works as a dog handler for a private security company named County UK.
David's sister Ingrid D. Cope (née Stansfield) was born in March 1964 in Camberwell. It's not known where she went to school, but she likely went to Stockwell Manor School (which would've been ~1975-1980). In the early 80s, she played in the Fulham and Oakway football club's youth team, who made it to the London semifinals in 1981. She was also an active participant in the WCG congregation, being friends with the pastor's daughter and writing articles for their newsletter. David accuses her of having a predatory relationship with the pastor's daughter and causing other incidents, but he's far from a reliable source. In 1989, she sided with her father when he separated from her mother. In October 1990, she married Edward T. Stadnik in Cambridge and moved to nearby Peterborough, where she had two daughters. She would stop visiting her mother and allegedly sent her nasty letters, including an apparently sacrilegious Christmas card that offended David greatly. Several years later, she was disfellowshipped from (kicked out of) the WCG congregation for unclear reasons. By 2005, she had divorced Edward and was remarried to James A. Cope in Cambridge. She moved to New Zealand in the 2010s, then to the U.S. in 2024.

After Moorfoot, David moved to a flat on 35 Christchurch Road, Doncaster, South Yorkshire and apparently started going by "David Walter Alter" full-time. Around 1999, he apparently got in legal trouble for pestering other UCG congregation members for money; the South Yorkshire police put out a statement warning people not to answer his requests, which was republished in the UCG's online newsletter. At an unknown point afterwards, David stopped associating with the UCG (he was allegedly disfellowshipped after showing up to a service cross-dressed) and seems to have begun associating with the Restored Church of God, another WCG successor/splinter group with a congregation in Doncaster.
Since there's no prior evidence that he ever held a steady job, has income besides neetbux, or lived anywhere that wasn't public housing, he was likely given financial assistance by either the RCG congregation or the Doncaster Disabled People's Alliance (whose headquarters was just down the street on Christchurch Road). Accounts from locals described him being escorted around in public and collecting disability checks with an older woman, who was either a member of his congregation (unclear whether UCG or RCG) or a tard wrangler with the DDPA. A congregation member would also drop off food at his flat every week continuously until 2024.
Doncaster is also where David started living out his schoolboy fantasies. People reported seeing him in public dressed in vintage schoolboy uniforms, face caked in pale makeup, loitering around schools, and talking to or following local schoolchildren. He was something of a local legend or boogeyman among Doncastrians, gaining nicknames like "Grey Man" and "Clown Monkey Man" (he'd run around with fake fairy wings on his back, which reminded people of the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz). Some children were scared of him, but people generally regarded him as a mild nuisance. Odd, but mostly harmless.
In 2004, David was arrested and brought to court for sexually harassing Keeley Peart, a 15-year-old student at Hall Cross School in Doncaster. A police search of his flat also found that he had been taking photos of her without her knowledge. According to David's version of the story, Keeley was actually coming onto him and she was jealous he didn't want to be her boyfriend. He was "sectioned" (forcibly remanded to a mental hospital) for a time, though it's unclear whether this was after his arrest or as part of his sentencing. In either case, he was not sentenced to prison time, and he faced no further legal consequences.
Reports on public sightings of David tapered off in the late 2000s and 2010s, and he largely just became a figure of playground lore. The only possible public activity since then was in 2015, a man fitting David's description reportedly sexually harassed and groped a Doncaster schoolgirl. However, beyond the uncannily similar police sketch and "it's the kind of thing he'd do," there's nothing else to link David to the crime, and no legal action was taken against him.
Social Media and Stefanie
David has been active on social media since ~2015, when he created a Facebook account named "David London." He mostly used it to autistically fixate on places he formerly lived (Streatham, Moorfoot, Kerrin Point, etc.) and post his terrifying music. However, around 2018, he developed his first persona, "Stefanie." (A full list of known personas can be found in the below post.) On these accounts, David would upload photos of strangers' children he found on the internet and edited to have blonde hair, pale skin, blue eyes, oversized smiling mouths with bright red lips, school uniforms, and high-heeled boots. David would use these accounts to befriend and follow unsuspecting kids (including his estranged sister's children), talk shit about people he knew in real life, and (poorly) maintain the ruse of being a small child instead of a 50+ year old predator. He'd also occasionally make his accounts interact, give each other compliments, and defend each other from critics and trolls.

Online Infamy
Smartschoolboy9 and the other accounts mostly went under the radar until July of 2024, when a Reddit post on r/internetmysteries was made about them. A subreddit called r/smartschoolboy9 and a discord server were created to track him down, but beyond haphazardly cataloging a lot of his social media posts, didn't really accomplish much. The investigation constantly followed false leads and dead ends, and was gatekept by attention whores like u/doncasterlocal_. Both the subreddit and the server splintered in a matter of weeks due to janny power-tripping and other drama.
Beginning in August, horror and true crime YouTubers began to pick up on this:
David became a social media celebrity almost overnight. David's surprisingly self-aware response was to immediately DFE and close all of his accounts that were featured in the videos. Kids went to the Christ Church Road house and threw bricks at the windows, despite the fact that David possibly didn't even live there anymore. Several YouTubers would go to Doncaster and heckle or harass locals to see if they knew anything about David. Moral of the story is that Redditors are retards who can't organize or investigate jack shit, horror YouTubers are a plague upon society, and ARCHIVE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU FIND IMMEDIATELY.
Doxxing David
It took roughly a month for the Farms to actually find anything concrete on David. As mentioned before, David deleted much of his social media before it could be properly archived. Most of the stories from Doncaster locals were half-remembered anecdotes and playground rumors from 20+ years ago that were full of incorrect details and baseless speculation. Searches for "David Alter" or 50-60 year old men named David from Doncaster were false leads or dead ends (David was the most popular UK baby name in the 1960s). Trolls, copycat accounts, and amateur internet sleuths on wild goose chases only served to further muddy the waters.
Outside information on David was so sparse that people suspected the whole thing was an ARG or horror media project. (This was primarily because surreal/horror web animator and Doncaster native David Firth was one of the first people to vouch for David's existence.) Others thought that David was a copycat or someone separate from the original Doncaster "Clown Monkey Man." Some even thought that the name David was a pseudonym—he's a big music fan, so people thought it was all just a coded reference to David Bowie (who was born on Stansfield Road in Stockwell).
This meant that the best source about David's life was what he shared on social media. But this was neither reliable nor consistent:
He has a dozen different online personas of varying ages, sexes, and origins. The only way some of them were identified were because they mentioned similar topics or had the same idiosyncrasies as his other writings.
He mixes the truth with fiction; while some of his personas' details are autobiographical, it's hard to tell which is which. He also rearranges the timeline of events to fit the backstories he makes up for his personas.
He lies a lot, especially when it concerns other people's behavior or accusations against him.
He talks about decades-old locales and events as if they're still recent and relevant. For instance, in 2023 he joined the Facebook Group Friends of Galley Hill, causing people to suspect he lives there now; it was actually because he lived in a nearby neighborhood for 6 months in the 1990s. He sent poetry as "Stefanie" to a Streatham community newsletter more than 20 years after moving away. He also obsesses over the Kerrin Point gas explosion, which happened 13 years after he moved out.
He sometimes gets details flat-out wrong, like saying his mother lives in Bournemouth instead of Eastbourne (a city almost a hundred miles away).
What led to David's doxxing was this Facebook comment of his from late 2023, as pointed out in the thread by @WhatZitTooya. While Kiwis had long speculated that he had lived in or around Kerrin Point due to his fixation on it, it wasn't clear whether he lived in the tower itself, what flat he was in, or when he lived there (Kerrin Point was open from 1969 to 1997). Now, it was narrowed down to a single floor in a specific timeframe. David tends to be far more honest about his past on his "David London" account compared to the others, making the claim more likely to be true. One trip to the Lambeth Archives by @AssignedEva later, and it was confirmed that a David W. Stansfield lived in Flat 88 in 1983. With his real full name in hand, finding public records was fairly straightforward.

Since being outed, David has largely kept a low public profile. He's recreated some of his personas on alternate accounts, and he occasionally resumes posting as David London in a Facebook group, going back into hiding after too many trolls catch on. (In one such incident, a troll was able to figure out the name of the RCG congregant who brought him food, causing him to cut ties with David.) He still vigorously denies all claims that he is SSB9/Stephanie, and tends to accuse his regular trolls of being pedophiles and perverts.
In November 2024, one of his trolls, a Facebook user under the pseudonym "Darren Swat" created a fake account posing as David's older brother John and got in contact with him. In DMs with "John", David made a variety of unconvincing excuses for his online behavior, alternately claiming that he was playing a character for a comedy bit, it was all staged/photoshopped by trolls, they're literal evil clones of him, or that they're Mandela effect-style posts from an alternate universe. He also uploaded a selfie, which seems to have been heavily edited—his skin appears remarkably smooth and shiny for man in his 60s.

Based on his posting history and the DDPA's closure in 2022, it was speculated that David moved away from Doncaster circa February 2023 to somewhere in South London near Brixton. However, in his DMs with "John," David described the brick through the window at the Doncaster house as if he still lived there. David expressed interest in moving to South London, specifically Kennington (the site of his gone but not forgotten Kerrin Point apartment). /u/DoncasterLocal_ also claimed that he saw David in Doncaster in August 2024 for the UK Pride parade (complete in his schoolboy costume), but he's an attention whore of dubious reliability.

A US appeals court has issued an opinion that could have wide-ranging implications for social media platforms, finding that content selected for users by TikTok's algorithms doesn't qualify for Section 230 protection.
In an opinion [PDF] published today, a three-judge panel from the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Pennsylvania decided that, because TikTok presented "blackout challenge" posts to 10-year-old Nylah Anderson on her For You Page of recommended content, the platform deserves to be taken to court for her death that followed.
The "blackout challenge" refers to a dangerous self-asphyxiation "trend" that went around on TikTok several years ago. Anderson attempted to participate in the challenge, leading to her death, but a lower-court judge decided in 2022 that TikTok was protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA), which protects social media platforms from liability for content posted by their users.
The Third Circuit court sharply disagreed.
"TikTok knew that Nylah would watch [the blackout challenge video] because the company's customized algorithm placed the videos on her 'For You Page' after it 'determined that the Blackout Challenge was 'tailored' and 'likely to be of interest' to Nylah,'" Judge Paul Matey wrote in a partial concurrence included in the decision.
Matey argued that Section 230's application has evolved far beyond the original intent when Congress passed the CDA in 1996. It is not to "create a lawless no-man's land" of legal liability.
"The result is a Section 230 that immunizes platforms from the consequences of their own conduct and permits platforms to ignore the ordinary obligation that most businesses have to take reasonable steps to prevent their services from causing devastating harm," Matey said.
Judge Patty Shwartz wrote in the main body of the opinion that the Third Circuit's reading of Section 230 is reinforced by the recent Moody v NetChoice decision from the US Supreme Court. In that case, related to content moderation laws passed in Florida and Texas, SCOTUS held that algorithms reflect editorial judgments. Shwartz wrote that it's a compilation of third-party speech made in the manner a platform chooses, and thus merits First Amendment protection.
"Given the Supreme Court's observations that platforms engage in protected first-party speech under the First Amendment when they curate compilations of others' content via their expressive algorithms, it follows that doing so amounts to first-party speech under Section 230, too," Shwartz reasoned.
In short, you can't have it both ways: Either you serve everything, let users sort it out and keep that liability shield; or you make algorithmic picks that surface content, give users what you think they want and take on the liability that comes with being the arbiter of that content.
With the appeal decided, Anderson's case will head back to the District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to be re-heard.
"Today's opinion is the clearest statement to date that Section 230 does not provide this catchall protection that the social media companies have been claiming it does," Anderson family lawyer Jeffrey Goodman told the Associated Press regarding the outcome.
TikTok didn't respond to questions for this story.
It's not immediately clear what sort of broader reach the Third Circuit's opinion could have on Section 230 protections for other social media platforms, but the three-judge panel that made the call knows it's likely to be applied elsewhere: It's a precedential one.

As much as I'm inclined to cheer the downfall of TikTok and other social media companies, I think this case sets a bad precedent - no one seriously thinks that Google search recommendations are somehow endorsed by Google as factually true, for example.
