youtube being wierd

They seem to be trying to occasionally suggest things based more on topicality and newness over stuff like watch time.

I think it's deliberate, my guess is it's like ford said and that they figure it can help smaller channels grow rather than focusing all the views on the biggest figures. After all, youtube needs to keep the idea alive that children should dream of becoming youtubers and that that's a sane or sustainable goal, rather than possibly the worst thing you could be.
 
Well, thanks to that I found a funny woke series commentator (is it becoming a trend or maybe the algorithm is stalking me?) that i started to follow.

From having 100 followers to now having 4000.
 
I once got some obviously autistic, but pretty entertaining high school kid's reviews of his school's plays. Every once in awhile his videos are on my feed again. I'm not sure why or what tripped it up. It might have been keywords related to a play he was reviewing.
