Yeonmi Park peddles the nork equivalent to schmeckle pullers and holocaust rollercoasters. It’s obvious bullshit but I don’t begrudge anyone believing it the first time they hear it. But she clearly likes the attention so she’ll keep lying if there are people willing to listen.

The way I see it, North Korea is just another corrupt underdeveloped country with a special focus by western media because South Korean news agencies and websites like to make shit up about them whenever their views are getting too low. This is why there are a trillion articles about how Kim has banned jeans or banned North Koreans from having the same haircut as him and all that stupid shit. 9 times out of 10 the articles don't even have a citation and when it does, it's just a link to another article. This cycle of citations continues until you find the original which will have no source at all.

Pretty much. Each Korea is nothing more than a propaganda outlet; both countries are paid by their masters to lie about the other.

As for Yeonmi, I'm pretty she's genuine a defector. When she made it to South Korea though, their eyes probably lit up - a young good-looking, English speaking, female defector from the Pyongyang elite was propaganda gold for them. They quickly taught her the ropes, wafted her up on to the world stage and booked her in on all the podcasts.
