What makes me angry at W2:TNC is how it missed out on so much potential. Just imagine, there is an entire world taken over by a sci-fi Nazi Germany, yet not even a hint of a sci-fi Imperial Japan or Italy is set. From what I know, this entire game takes place in the US. Why not give homage to Fallout and make areas and moments similar(sorry if they have, I haven't played the game yet). Why not have an AI leader like in Fallout 3 or even a Liberty Prime vs Mecha Hitler?
This entire game series is supposed to be a comic book version of WW2 and post WW2, yet nothing in the sequel seems to put any effort into making the game fun and creative. I have played Shadow Warrior, and that game puts effort into giving the feel of the old game while mixing it with modern stuff. I've played Rise of the Triad and even that arcade-style of a game tries to make things fun and enjoyable(with epic music, might I add).
Remember the fat Nazi officer lady from RTCW, who owns a company of stealth female nazi ninjas? W2:TNC has a fat woman with a tragic back story who JOINS BJ. Why the hell did they make a good villain type into a crappy ally type? I am all for a game wanting to sell, but please, we should all agree that the most important part of making a video game is to have the game ENJOYABLE and fun, not a manipulated multi-million dollar mess that will be forgotten by next year.
I understand that they want the game to sell well because the previous one sold poorly in comparison to its upkeep, but if they simply gave it replay value or made it more like how Fallout or Wolfenstein (2009) was in level design, there would be no problem in sales for sure. I mean, I like the Ausmerzer, I love the mecha soldiers and robot dogs, I love the weapons. They should focus on things like that. Resistance 2 and 3 already did the US warzone thing, and did it better than Wolfenstein could. That setting is tired unless it can be mastered.
They shouldn't focus on an agenda. They should focus on making the game interesting and a praise of the past, like how any WW2 game is. W2:TNC should have had psychic masterminds like Yuri from Red Alert 2. W2:TNC should have had giant robot spiders or mech suits, or a jet pack function like Killzone 3. It should have customization of weapons and interesting upgrades like Wolfenstein(2009) and that crappy Homefront sequel. For as bad as Homefront 2 was, the customization of weapons was great idea, and if W2:TNC took that idea to Dead Rising levels of insanity and fun, then the marketing scheme they used would have never had been needed.
In short: this all boils down to lazy production and cheap tricks. I'm still waiting for the day major releases give the players a good reason to buy their game instead of trick them with tribalism and false hopes.
