I actually believe he couldn't handle it. Something would come up, either a big scuffle with the slytherins, sexually harassing a female class mate, something... not to mention a curse-ye-ha-me-ha!

On that thought, given how he tries to lie, deceive and manipulate, thinking himself as some sort of chessmaster who's better than everyone else, he'd probably end up in Slytherin. They needed an even more buttmonkey-ish version of Neville Longbottom anyway.
