Warhammer 40k

Won my second Crusade game, but fucking barely.

1783050577247.png

Started the game with 60 boyz on the battlefield, a wartrakk, a trukk, and a dakkarig. Ended it with just a group of like 10 boyz and a weird boy, who won me the game because the weirdboy kept teleporting to the objectives I didn't own and capping them with the boyz. Toughest game of my life holy shit.

Some images of the chaos.

The final big fight that decided the game. Afterwards, in my next move phase, I teleported the Weridboy and his unit out.

Overall fun game, but holy shit Spacewolves are brutal.

Slitherine if nothing else publishes functional, competently made war games.

Budget wise anything they release is bare bones, but it'll certainly run better than the terrible BB3 game did and the odds might actually work correctly when rolling.

We can only hope Slitherine saves Blood Bowl on PC.

Edit: apparently Cyanide is still developing the game and Slitherine now just owns the publishing/etc rights. So fuck it actually the game will still suck.
Sadly your edit is correct, Slitherine publishes a lot of garbage. it comes down to who the actual dev is. Lots of half-finished/abandoned projects out there.

Posted in another thread, but forgot to post here.
Proxy guard ready to be washed and based, which will happen at a much later date. Not the best photo but wanted to get this uploaded.

You can't really make out the camo, but it's there.

Decided to look around some flags today and they all still had Armageddon in stock, both stores had five copies left and I was tempted. Nice to see GW made enough supply to last for anyone who couldn't pick it up immediately. Well done GW.
My local has a billion of these boxes for $400 dollarydoos which is a good to average price. Thats essentially priced at 2x Combat Patrols which is what the box contents are for 2 very different armies with push fit models.

I wouldnt jump on it unless it was 300 just for the effort of selling the Ork half. The Space Marine side is a bit all over the place and I can wait for the vanguard vets and air friar.

Its not a terrible box but it isnt as general purpose as people might think. Ork players are eating good though.

Plague of the Nurglings by Cavan Scott

This was really great.

So the inquisitor tells the kids that Amity is a full blown traitor and fired upon him when he entered the system. That she's obsessed with revenge against the imperium and that the necron artifact she carries would allow her to destroy any planet she wishes. Cogboy or Mekki as he's actually called doesn't buy it at all. And I sure as shit don't buy it when he announces her crimes. Selling people into slavery...

The imperium wouldn't give a shit unless you somehow sold someone important.

But in any case, he wants to go down to some mechanicaus forge world and meet up with a cog contact he's got so he can psychically trace her.

1782858517908.png
The best part of this book was watching inquisitor Jeremias and trying to figure out what the hell his deal was before the end. You know some shady shit is going on. It's bread and butter with these guys. But he's not entirely acting like a piece of shit, he helps the kids out and seems genuine in his intentions.... It was fun waiting for the other shoe to drop. Even more so when he starts bonding with Talen and treating him like an acolyte in training. (pointedly ignoring Zelia and her questions XD)

1782944270239.png
The most clear indication this guy isn't thinking clearly is when he decides to hook his ass up to cerebro and start warp scanning for Amity while the kids ARE STILL IN THE FUCKING ROOM. Everyone starts getting nose bleeds and bawling around on the ground, feeling like their heads are about to explode. Meanwhile this guy is shouting for his accomplice to give him MORE POWER

Yeah Zelia got a face full of warp and saw some devil shit. Good times.

So anyway the power trips out and then the Spanish mechanicus bust in the room looking to kill the shit out of some children.

1782858853211.png
(did they change the artist or style? hmmm)

1783036240875.png

YOU FUCKERS HID THIS ABOMINATION FROM US! PREPARE TO DIE

1782858963644.png

Zoinks scoob!

Inquisitor: No. kindly fuck off. Mechanicus:.... We'll get you next time boy!

Even after Jeremias saves his ass Mekki doesn't trust him. He leads Zelia away to go find a means of boosting a signal strong enough to contact the monkey. Meanwhile Jeremias decides to zap his brain again with talen, because it was such a good idea last time. Good enough for him to keep his evil detecting cyberhound locked outside the room (likely scared it will kill him for overusing the warp)

Only one tiny problem.

1783036536402.png
His mechanicus buddy turns into a zombie in the middle of the second attempt.

It's not that big a deal at first, Talen frees the energy sapped inquisitor from the chair, lets in the dog to go maul his ass and then...
1783036782306.png

The zombie rips the dog in half. It is legit the most shocking and violently described moment up till now. Talen immediately goes into GTFO mode and seals the zombie inside with the help of the inquisitor's servo skull (which is suspiciously smart and helpful for "non ai") and they haul ass to try and find Zellia and Mekki. Running into even more zombies on the street. The inquisitor, extremely weakened and sluggish, attempts to go darktide on some ass.

1782944295162.png

Meanwhile....

1782944392565.png
Yeah our hero's are bumbling around trying to look for an antenna to hitch a signal onto. It just so happens to be on the tallest skyscraper, So Mekki overloads a grav lift to lift them up into the air before it shorts out and drops their asses on a train. (Special mention goes to the Surf who's leg they almost certainly broke when he tried to stop them) They manage to luck their way into the tower by jumping on a hovercar and the driver just violently swerves to get their asses off onto it. Doesn't even question it, just goes into full KILL kids mode.

We actually get Mekki's backstory and it is every bit as dark and grim as it should be. His family and clan is dead. Killed by the mechanicus for actually trying to innovate. He even confirms Most servitors are not clones and are enemy's of the state. The electro "tattoos" he uses to remotely communicate with machinery is straight up tech heresy. His weak arm would have been cut off if his parents never saved it. He's had a rough go of it.

Talen and the inquisitor end up dealing with a bigger shitshow as the zombies start exploding into infectious nurglings. They portray them in a very stray puff marshmallow way and I liked that.

1783344497218.png

The servoskull manages to get them a getaway car but the situation is rapidly spiraling out of control. Talen keeps asking for a weapon and is refused, having nothing but a wrench. Jeremias Is visibly winded and slowed by his exertions but is still determined to find amity using the kids. The manage to fortuitously crash-land into the skyscraper just as the mechanicus have Zelia and mekki at gun point. Using the kids as bait, Jeremias hashes out a deal with the local cog bitch to get space marines to clean up the chaos infestation if they can contact the monkey by pretending to be Mekki.

It works. And then said bitch immediately turns into a zombie. Exploding on the local skitarii bodyguards and getting all of them infected in a explosive chain reaction except for one survivor. Inquistor gets bit, but walks it off and says He's got leechspheres that absorbed it. (what the hell is that? He's not making it up, but the Skitarri survivor say's that's something normally used by his guys) Whatever's infesting the planet is in the local electrical systems and corrupting everyone that tries to jack in. The plan now is to run like hell and get back to cerbero from the beginning because reasons.

1782945327387.png

Yay its a Kastelan I love these things! .... It's infested, shit!

1783219480894.png
Then ape and co comes down to save the day. He built a shit ton of servo sprites to take out the nurglings and armed Amity and her servitor with supped up weaponry to kick some ass. Oh and I forgot to mention they've had a tau battle suit in reserve sense book 3.

1783260836392.png
Ape is enjoying it.

Everybody gets into the cerbero building except ape while he covers the entrance (he gives Zelia the artifact). They find the original infected cogboy and blow him apart, but one of his nurglings almost gets on amity and the inquisitor takes a shot at her. Servator takes the shot and the nurgling (he's fine). Ameity gets pissed and takes a swing at the inquisitor.

1782945604216.png
(The mood of this panel is ridiculously off. Amity should be just as murderously pissed off as Jeremias)

Then zelia loudly tells everybody to stop

And simultainiously does the smartest and dumbest thing on the planet. She hands over the necron crown to Jeremias As that's what he's been after the entire time. She wants the fighting to end and she even admits she's just a stupid child who has no idea what the hell she's doing. He's the adult in charge. Maybe the right thing to do is to trust in adult authority's for once.

1783343527696.png

That was not the right thing to do

Jeremias reatreats into Cerebro room and seals himself and Talen inside. Then the truth gets revealed.

1782945775565.png
He's the source of the plague. Not intentionally mind you, He's managed to keep his sanity but his little pow wow at the beginning unintentionally infected the planet. Long ago this guy was a good inquisitor, but after defeating some plague marines they cursed him with an ailment he couldn't get rid of with any treatment. As a last desperate hail mary, Jeremias decided to find necron technology to transfer his consciousness into a new body and keep up the good fight against the archenemy. Oh yeah and the charges against amity were total bullshit, she actually freed too many slaves.

In any case He hooks up Talen to the machine and begins the process. His body goes into overdrive and turns into lettuce, while Talen seemingly wakes up as an inquisitor. Talen Orders everybody to get teleported to the inquisitor's ship. The servo skull complies before getting blasted to oblivion. Turns out Ape suspected this would happen and gave Zelia a fake duplicate. So all's well that ends well! (Except for the poor bastard skitarii who got knocked out and was left behind to get eaten)

The kids call the space marines to clean shit up and ride out into the sunset again. Only one book left lads! Place your bets on if POC child's mom is gonna die. I have no idea how the hell this series is going to end.

The most interesting bit of lore from the glossary was that interplanetary teleportation has been attempted and failed due to prolonged exposure to the warp. Also it doesnt work on especally tall living things or peneatrate 5 metre thick walls.

I remember the Xenology lore book from decades ago had a section on the Tau.
Ive read about that. One of the more interesting aspects of the ethereal's is the implications that a good chunk off them might not actually understand how their "powers" work. From that perspective they might not even know their own origins. Maybe Aun'Va knew something but his dumbass got assassinated and I suspect that threw the entire empire out of wack.
You guys are still in denial about Farsight huh?
He's not an ethereal

Oh and by the way the obscure game with the Rogue Ethereal was Gladius – Relics of War It's actually a bit more complicated then I remember reading.
The leading ethereal has genocidal intentions and plans to take over the tau empire. Technically the "traitor" tau you have to fight are going against him.

Meh, his family lacked influence. Why keep a weak arm when you can replace it with a much superior cyber-arm with a retractile chainsaw?

Interesting, I didn't think that CIV-style game would have much story, and revolutionary concepts such as Ethereals with a personality and evil to boot.
