Amen, I generally go for high model count armies and only centrepieces and characters get any special attention. I'm not detailing every single clanrat, nobody else cares and I'm not autistic enough.

Respect to people who do though, powerful aura.
Not even just horde armies, high detail armies too.

I have 12 Flawless Blades I'm about to finish up and the amount of detail on them that necessitates different colour paint:
- purple
- gold
- black
- green
- flesh
- another flesh
- dark steel
- steel
- silver
- brown
- turquiose
- off white
- magenta
means that after a wash, a highlight wont do too much. Its pretty much a fluoro green (stims), brown (leather) and maybe play around with contrast on the blades.

Im not even going to mention the 3k points of other models that need similar treatment. Only Fulgrim and Lucius are getting highlights because EC just finds a way to give you so much colour.

Ended up painting my first age of sigmar model, fuck this dude's banner

Dunno about Nuln Oil, but Army Painter sells tins of shit that you're literally supposed to dip the entire model in:
Wyświetl załącznik 9097840
Its just oil based wood stain, which is why it behaves the way it does. Its a method that can work but in the modern age with speed paints its outdated and more work than it will ever be worth doing.
On a side note apparnetly these may be good proxy minis for steel legion
The Death Division line of proxies are slightly better looking, since they have more realistic gas masks instead of those goofy things.

I think they look great. Tempted to invest in some dip. What flavour of dip are you using? I know there's a few.
Thanks! For these I used the Army Painter strong tone dip with a coat of AK Interactive ultra matte varnish airbrushed on top once the dip was dry.
Quick tip, keep an old brush handy to take care of excessive pooling. Even with a good shake I found it would still pool and obscure some fine details.

Duncan Rhodes has a decent video on using dip.

A philosophy/theology expert looks at 40K. I'd recommend the segment on the Mechanicus, and only the rest if you found it interesting..

I gave Valdor another shot and I've come around on it a bit. Still think the Thunder Warriors are the most interesting part, but I wasn't nearly as put off by Valdor himself this time and I kinda it. The High Lord trying to arrest Valdor essentially just being used so the TW can go out fighting instead of dying from their fucked physiology is kino. Bitch really thought she was gonna arrest Valdor and that the Thunder Warriors gave a fuck.

Having the 1st Legion appear like phantoms out of the blizzard is some metal shit, and if I were GW this is the only instance of Unity Wars I'd ever show. 2.5 minutes and done. Ushotan and Valdor, while their respective legions rage around them, ending with the "I pity you" bit.

Just out of curiosity, why AoS ? Do you play it, like the setting, or models ? Or all of that ? Or something else ?
The game store near me had the spearhead on sale for like 80 bucks and they do a spearhead league so I thought it would be something to get into that could be fun. There aren't as many people in my local community that play Combat Patrol and a 2k 40k army is something a little outside my current price range right now, I was going to get into kill team but the people who normally play at my store haven't showed up for a while so.

That and I DO like the way Stormcast Eternals look, even if AOS is kind of cringe. It's pretty much a game to play while I wait for more 11th edition stuff to come out.

Yeah, once you spot the background stuff happening and realize there's way more going on than just the idiot high lord thinking she was ever going to get anything done, it's pretty decent. Plus she gets to just go starve and eventually die in Africa like she deserves, for failing to realize she was being used as a puppet by literally everyone else.

As you said, TW? They just wanted a battle. The Emperor? The high lords were obviously never going to have any real authority. The interviews with Valdor? Why would he waste his time other than to confirm for himself that she was a fucking idiot and that she wasn't the real threat, it was actually Astarte?

I thought the book also showcased pretty well just how "hollow" Valdor is. He might be the the commander-general or whatever, but everyone knows the power behind him is both Malcador and Emps himself. He is simply an instrument of the Emperor's Will, and will always be, unlike Ushotan who went out on his own terms.

I played a game of Spearhead with the same box you got and it was surprisingly tactically depth.

Yndrasta’s Spearhead puts the Annihilators and her in reserve until halfway through the game. You have to be selective in which units aggressively push into the enemy and which you pull back to protect your territory.

Also, wonderful miniatures to paint. Been using them to practice NMM with the big flat surfaces of the swords.

Good to know, I've also learned that they aren't that tanky which surprised me.

So I'm reading Hive and so far have been enjoying it but had a question. Is sexism a thing in the Imperium? Specifically in the upper strata of society? I'm asking because of this scene.

For context the new governor for the hive was supposed to be a guy, they had to change the inauguration around because he died and a woman was promoted because of it.

Shes talking to some former staff of the former would be governor about keeping things from his inauguration or changing things around.

‘I am certain, Domne,’ said Phillipo, ‘the compositions I had in mind originally will be entirely suitable for the occasion, with appropriate adjustment, even though the motifs were conceived to celebrate a masculine theme of power and strength.’
‘Should I be denied those attributes, Jha Phillipo?’ Aphra asked sweetly.
Phillipo hesitated abruptly, an awkward look on his face.
‘By all means, no, Domne!’ he exclaimed. ‘All I meant was, the overlaying of some more melodious, more rhapsodic elements, to symbolise the eternal feminine–’
‘I would rather like power and strength, Jha Phillipo,’ said Aphra with greater and more deliberate softness. ‘I would rather like it if my Inaugural score was worthy of Astartes marching in glory, so that hereafter, no man could say, “Ah, that music was writ for a woman.” Or is that not appropriate?’
‘O-of course not!’ Phillipo blustered. ‘A thousand times, no!’
‘In truth, jha,’ said Aphra gently, ‘I have purposefully forgone the trappings and regalia of war to respect the Hive’s suffering. I have chosen to manifest a harmonious aspect of peace, which you perhaps have mistaken as feminine. Do not let my gown deceive you. When I take my oath as Domne, I will appear in such finery and glamour as you describe, but let your music speak to the strength behind my tranquil composure.’
‘You will learn, Par,’ said Sire Hermoze with some amusement, ‘that our Domne is every bit as indomitable as our former master, much missed. We will make no distinctions of sex or gender, man or woman. The Domne is the Domne. Make this, Par, with gentle intent, your first lesson.’

Wife finally finished her Mandrake killteam she wanted as her very first Warham models, took our teams to an open miniatures night at a nearby store, and she absolutely stomped my poor Kroot. Fuck Harrowing Whispers, man....
Ive got some half painted that I need to finish. They're excellent looking models. Not sure how good a KT they are.
Starting an infantry guard army for 11th. Pray it isnt a waste of time!
Brother, 120 bodies to throw into thr mrat grinder is never a waste of time.
