You could use the Tor Browser. You could also have Tails, Debian, or other privacy-minded Linux distro natively on a PC, booted via USB, or on a VM. I would suggest looking around as well.

Reminder that Tor is literally funded by the Feds. Do not use Tor and think it is anyway secure from Law Enforcement tampering.

Personally? I use Firefox. I'm not a huge security autist, I still want to, you know, be able to browse the fucking internet, and Firefox is the only mainstream option that doesn't actively try to fuck you over by datamining your shit and selling it to Pajeets. Firefox's privacy policy is actually pretty good. Also I would absolutley set your default search engine in your browser to DuckDuckGo. Again, the only mainstream option that doesn't openly datamine you.

Altogether, Firefox with DuckDuckGo using an easily accessible VPN like PIA or Nord with DNS protection on is all 99.6% of users will ever need. The other 0.4% are buying slaves, drugs, hit men, or child porn.

What about ones like Brave, Pale Moon, Iridium, or Waterfox?

Again, personally, Firefox is the best mix of protection vs useability. The administration at Mozilla prides themselves in being the secure mainstream option, and they do not want to hurt their reputation, so their privacy policy is basically "don't talk to us unless you have a warrant." Yes by using a smaller, less mainstream option you can marginally increase your privacy, but in my personal opinion, you lose more in utility and accessibility than you gain in privacy. Not to mention Mozilla has a long and reputable history, whereas some of these "privacy oriented" upstarts could be wolves in sheeps clothing. I'm not 100% sold on most.

My statement still stands that unless you're doing super illegal shit like buying child sex slaves, firefox, ddg, and a VPN with DNS leak protection are all you need. You will be in the top 1% of internet surfers in regards to security.

Also this is for EVERYONE HERE. You don't need a standalone antivirus. Windows Defender + not being a fucking retard is 99% effective, Malwarebytes is good for the other 1% if you want. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, use Norton or McAfee, should be obvious. If you just absolutely HAVE to use something for some ungodly reason, use Avira.

Easier said than done though. I have issues of letting go my AVG, despite the fact that Avast fucked it completely (Can't use outside VPNs for some reason, also crashes games and software for no reason). Old habit from the days when you still needed to have an antivirus I guess.

But yeah, Defender should handle everything assuming you keep it updated and functional.

Also yeah, skip the free VPNs. If you get it for free it means you're paying them in another way. Usually either through malware or that they sell your browser data (literally what you're trying to avoid by using a VPN). If you want a cheap alternative I'd suggest the Swedish VPN called Mullvad. €5 per month and they keep no logs. You don't even get an account, only an ID. You can also pay them using crypto or cash if you're really paranoid. All payments are attributed to your ID and not your name. So even if the feds would demand their logs, all they'd know is that you may have paid for their services, nothing else.

Another good option is NordVPN, a bit more expensive (go for a whole year or two year for a subscription, or else it gets super expensive). They're deemed as one of the best.

This. I use firefox, DDG, PIA, windows defender and I'm all good.
