Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines: 2 - I want to believe, but...
Funny thing is if you side with the Sabbat Andrei actually keeps his word and doesn't screw you over. You've absolutely burned every bridge that doesn't lead to hanging out with the Sabbat but there's no subtlety to that choice.
I've been taking a look at the "Disciplines" the clans have and boy is it rough...
Toreador:
"Entrancing Kiss": Kiss an individual to Entrance them for a period, making them an ally that will defend you from others. The weaker the will of the target, the longer they will be Entranced.
"Blink": Instantly dash to a targeted location.
"Beckon": Put an individual into a docile trance where they will walk to where they last saw you.
"Blurred Momentum": Temporarily boost your reflexes, allowing you to evade damage.
"Fleetness": - Clan Perk: Relocate abilities will recharge over time.
Lasombra:
"Arms of Ahriman": Trap the opponent in a straight line with your shadow.
"Shadow Step": Step into your shadow and emerge from the shadow of your target.
"Glimpse of Oblivion": Causes an individual to become afraid, fleeing from their allies.
"Enter Oblivion": Enter a dimension where only you and those touched by your shadow exist. "Stygian Shroud"
Clan Perk: Prevents mortals from attacking you while feeding.
Assamites (Fuck you, not going to use your retarded new name)
"Bladed Hand": Slash swiftly in front of you, beheading weaker opponents.
"Split Second": Move so fast that time appears to stop around you.
"Mute": Silence your target's screams and weapons.
"Unseen Aura": Become temporarily invisible to enemies and civilians. "Unseen Passage"
Clan Perk: Can remain crouched whilst sprinting.
Brujah
"Taunt": Compel and opponent to attack you and drop their weapon if armed.
"Lightening Strike": Unleash an unstoppable hail of punches.
"Charge": Surge forward, grabbing an enemy and using them as a battering ram.
"Earthshock": Slam the ground with explosive force, flinging enemies into the air.
"Spark of Rage" - Clan Perk: Killing enemies without feeding still activates your Clan Passive.
These are the most basic bitch abilities I have ever seen, completely combat-centric. The plasmids from Bioshock were more diverse than this shit, for fuck's sake.
Entrancing Kiss": Kiss an individual to Entrance them for a period, making them an ally that will defend you from others. The weaker the will of the target, the longer they will be Entranced.
Having the player character literally sprint full stop to someones face and forcefully kiss them is funny as fuck, not intimidating or cool, just, really fucking funny.
That’s what I’m doing right now. Love the atmosphere and writing. Combat hasn’t aged well. To the point where I’m having to scum save and reload a lot.
The game was my first contact with WoD and i picked Malk right away, immediately spoke to me as a concept, that first playthrough was just magic. I beat the game a million times and probably 90% of that as Malk.
Are these the v5 ability naming conventions or is this a game only thing? Either way, fucking gay. Can't get more perfect than "Obtenebration" when it comes to peak 90's edge aesthetics, these niggers are clueless.
They, the publisher and the public know this game is a stillbirth, only being pushed out the door because Paradox wants it out the door before they bury the IP and never bother with RPGs again.
The forcing kiss one? Is just the 4th ability of Dominate in the first game but more stupid.
I mean, you can disable npc's with trance ot sleep powers at distance, and even make a enemy an ally for a while, but this?
Gay.

The shirtless tweaker for the dude turned me off, and their Disciplines never really spoke to me. I think Camarilla Edition's changes to Disciplines would make them a lot more interesting, though. Might give them a try for my next run. Also, while checking out ModDB, found this attempted remaster of the OG, this time by an actual fan: https://www.moddb.com/mods/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-rtx-remaster Dude's definitely keeping dingy, worn-down look you'd expect to find in the World of Darkness.
Sounds like the Masquerade mechanics is gonna be just as 'You'll only notice it if you go out of your way to be an idiot' deal as it was in the first game. Liked seeing the NPC policeman instantly dome that homeless man.

Only 4 clans. Boring. I played every clan in the first Bloodline games (save for the Nosferatu because fuck me I am not playing as a hideous freak) and while some abilities repeated themselves over the Clans you still had variety. I had a soft spot for the Gangrel just because you actually had animalistic abilities. The Malk was fun in itself and if you put everything into the "Invisibility trait" you could sleepwalk through some levels earning extra experience to boot. And no Tremere? Booooooooo
I'll say this, the first game had too many clans, with not enough content to go around, and with multiple clans feeling redundant.
Only Malk and Nosferatu offered something unique in terms of gameplay/narrative, the Tremere's thamathurgy felt undercooked and painfully limited (just another set of abilities, the game didn't explore just how broken versatile it truly is).
I would have rather had either Brujah or Gangrel and Venture or Toreador than all four if it meant the remaining clans left in the game would have gotten more content, and felt more distinct.
Also, certain persuasion lines should have been locked behind a specific clan, if only to justify their existence, as having three or four distinct "I WIN" dialogue options that all largely led to the same outcome was lame.
