I genuinely don't understand who this is for.
I have a deck and like it a lot. The integration between the steam gaming mode and desktop mode is really nice. I can understand the appeal of a more powerful but slightly less portable version of that. That has to be a tiny niche of people and the price only shrinks that.

I honestly thought it was going to be like $1299 so I'm not sperging out like most people.

That said, how bad must the profit margin on this thing be if they had to land on $1049.99

The way I see it, I think Steam Machine is going to miss the mark.
It's not necessarily Valve's fault, but I don't think anyone who is right in their head is going to spend over a thousand dollars for this.

With the current price of RAM, SSD and GPU. A decent low-mid range PC will cost nealy $1500.

Just look at the price change in 6 months

Found this PC while browsing this thread itself.
PC hardware (and quite frankly, the software itself too), is fucked.
Glad I bought my PC when I did, just barely avoided this hardware price hell. Worst of all I think it’s going to be fucked like this for at least a few years.

I was going to get this if it wasn't for the current hardware crisis. As it is, I can't justify buying it, so I'll just have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over.

As someone with over 500 pc games, a billion controllers, and that recently started living with someone that enjoys playing games but doesn't own anything, this box seems like the perfect thing to put in my living room.
I could use the ps5, but I hate double dipping games.

Going from its $1,049 price tag, I wonder how much the base-model Steam Machine would be, if we didn't have the RAMpocalypse, and RAM and storage were what they were a year ago, or even slightly cheaper. Probably around $850?
Per friend of the forum @LinusTech it would have been around that price.

Poor thing was sent out to die and they know it. If i was them I would have sold/gave away the existing stock and just shitcanned it and waited for better times.

Here's our overly expensive computer. Also starting version 3.8, you can also install our OS on regular desktop computers.

I thought the Verge article was old or something, but no, it came out the same day as the price announcement.

im going to tell you a secret:
notebook with dedicated gpu
lol not if the price is what we're complaining about, gaming laptops are nuts. Mine was like seven grand. If that's all you wanna do just poke some fan holes in the side of the suitcase and build a regular PC in there

All of those things are called Steam so is not that different ...
Anyways my post was not about selling is about Gabe's bootlickers.
I get valve fanboys are irritating but the valve haters almost put people who hated Nintendo pre switch and switch 2 to shame with how fucking retarded and autistic they are. Valve atleast has good reasons to have fans. Especially given that most digital storefronts suck dick. And even when compared to the nigger infested sony fans, Xbox fans(if they even exist anymore) and the vortex of autism and mental illness that's Nintendo fans. Valve fanboys are saints in comparison. Not that you should simp for companies who only look for your money but still.
